Obama, Biden 60 Minutes Interview: Obama Explains Biden Pick, Reacts To Palin (VIDEO)

In his first reaction to the choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as John McCain's running mate, Sen. Barack Obama tells 60 Minutes correspondent Steve Kroft that she is an "up-and-coming public servant." Of his own choice for running mate, the Democratic presidential nominee says Sen. Joseph Biden "can step in and become president."

Obama and Biden sat down with Kroft Friday night in Pittsburgh for an interview to be broadcast on 60 Minutes this Sunday, Aug. 31, at 7 p.m. ET/PT.

Really, the entire focus of Dem surrogates right now should be tying this pic directly to the temperament and judgment issue. Period. The lack of vetting WILL make this blow up into a disaster and it won't take long. There's plenty of people in the press and the Republican side who will get on the drubbing of Palin herself. Dems need to be very focused and strong in where to place their criticism of this call. Honestly, I spent half the day Friday convinced this was McCain's idea of trying to be Ashton hip in playing a Punk'd prank on his birthday. This will eventually be a trainwreck of epic proportions, but Dems need to be smart about how they play this. Obama did great, but he should have started the gentle nudge on the temperament thing while saying what he did about Palin.

Joe and Obama are incredibly suited together, it shows on the TV coverage but in real life it's so more very apparent. I talked to the Senator and got a hug from Michelle because when I met her I started to cry from respect, excitment and the possibility of her strength and compassion she could bring to the Whitehouse.

She is absolutely beautiful and Barack is warm and genuine..

The Republicans suggested that Obama's pick of Biden showed he had a weakness when it came to Foreign Affairs. I would suggest a smart man would look to cover all bases and balance the ticket with the strongest person to address pressing issues here in America.

By their logic McCain picked Palin because he is strong on Security, Economics, Foreign Relations, Women's Rights, Alternative Energy, and any other number of issues that will need to be addressed. As she is not strong in any of these areas on any measurable level. I would argue that McCain has 5 1/2 as a P.O.W., and a voting record that looks just like the failing policies of the Bush Administration.

Once again Obama was right, and McCain is wrong.

But the fact of the matter is, Barack was already making this choice and others using the book about Lincoln "Rivals" (doris kearns)... where Lincoln appointed his most bitter rivals to his cabinet. Biden was on that list, but had worked his way up as he and Barack got to know each other better in the time since his nomination.
