The AP reports on McCain and Palin hitting the trail in Pennsylvania:

McCain and Palin made a morning stop at Tom's Diner in Pittsburgh's trendy Southside neighborhood. The running mates, with spouses in tow, greeted patrons and posed for pictures. Palin's daughters Willow and Piper were also on hand, with Willow carrying Palin's 4-month old son, Trig.

The first-term Alaska governor told reporters she was having fun in her new role. "It's great to see another part of the country," she said. She also said she'd managed to get a little sleep during the night.

NO MCCAIN OR WHAT'S HER NAME

This "Beauty Queen choice" is an insult to the process. John McCain had only met her ONCE before yesterday? What kind of counsel can this Vice Presidential candidate offer him?? AND she apparently hasn't been CURIOUS enough about the world to venture OUT OF ALASKA and this is the RNC and McCain's CHOICE to be next in line to the Leader of the Free World?!?!?

ABSOLUTELY NO Judgement+CLUELSS WITH ABANDON= John McCain

Apparently she spent some time in Idaho to get her college degree---unless it was a correspondnce degree---and earned a Bachelor's in Journalism and minor in political science.

Speaking of Philadelphia, wonder if Sarah knows where the Constitutional Convention was held -- and when.

One the subject of the baby possibly being born to the daughter, I believe it is a legitimate issue for the following reason: had the daughter been given a modicum of sex education and a chance to use birth control, such a situation most lkely would not have occurred. Ms. Palin should be confronted for backing a phjilosophy that will most likely cause many more daughters to be forced to deal with the same situation though many will not have the political resources to cover it up or the taxpayer-paid healthcare to deal with the financial burden. I have three daughters, and I promise you that they will have access to birth control and be able to realize their dreams which might otherwise be dashed because of an unwise decision. People make mistakes in judgement. An ounce (or pill) of prevention can keep that mistake from becoming a tragedy. If you are pro-life, fine - just be sure you proclaim yourself as anti-war. You cannot be both. Thousands of children have died or have been horribly maimed during this discusting invasion of Iraq. Who among the pro-life crowd speaks for them?

Wake up people!

Senator Obama has a law degree and a degree in International Relations. He has taught Constitutional law, was a state senator for eight years, and now is a U.S. Senator. OBAMA is the best choice!

Palin has a degree in journalism, was a sports newscaster, a very small town mayor, and a governor for less than two years in a very unpopulated state. Palin's husband works for an oil company. and Sarah Palin is under legislative investigation for abuse of power of an elected official!

No, me either. But she is naive and a little bit too full of herself, to imagine she deserves this VP slot.

Was her muscling of her ex-brother in law's supervisor just "taking care of business", or an abuse of power? That bothers me more than her voice.

When you fire a city official for not doing your bidding, it is an abuse of power.

HA! Forget that. She's being investigated now for firing an official who refused to fire her ex-brother-in-law. And as if that isn't bad enough, she lied about being in contact with this official until she found out there were e-mails and a recorded phone call. Already reminds me of the Bush-Cheney bull.

Her husband works for BP. She wants to Open up ANWAR. Her husband and aids harrassed/ pressured the state official who refused to fire her former brother in law. Her husband was in a meeting with her and city official. When the issue came under investigation, she hired investigators to find out what they had on her. Yep corrupt. Right up there with her Republican mentors.

Palin is all about oil. The only traction McCain was getting was when he started pushing for drilling. Palin is from Alaska and can talk very convincingly about how the tiny footprint in the reserve will not harm the environment and that Alaskans would never jeopardize their state. She's criticizing Biden for his vote against the pipeline some 30 years ago and has said both he and Obama are naive to think that alternative energy sources can be readied in time to relieve our dependence on oil. She's calling for drilling NOW. When America hears this sweet, innocen,t mother of five talk semi-intelligently about drilling in Alaska, Bush-Cheney & Co. are going to be buying banks to hold their investments. Don't jump down Obama's throat when he agrees to look into drilling. It'll save the election for us.

Wish I lived in a pork barrel state and got a $1,200 gift every year out of the taxes that AK imposes on oil extraction, taxes paid by the entire rest of the country.

I'd imagine they'll be telling her to shut up about those refund checks ... don't want the rest of the country getting any ideas. We need to keep paying those inflated petroleum prices.

Besides, she's got a $40 BILLION nature gas pipeline going in. When she said it, she sounded like she was paying for it herself.

RE: dkuz09

I know exactly what the diabolical plan is...McCain will agree to one term. Then they will have another prez like Bush in there to push around. Their dream of destroying the environment, women's rights, the Constitution, the economy and the world will be realized. Scary to think of it, but that's what we're gambling with here. NO MCCAIN or what's her name!!!!!!!

Every time she speaks my ears bleed. She must be the child of Gilbert Gottfried and Fran Dresher.

And every word she said today at the PA rally was identical to the ones she said for her coming out party yesterday. Word for word, right down to "rah rah" and "look, I have a really good uterus, even BETTER than Clinton's and BOY do I know how to use it LOOK at all these kids--twice as many as Obama's kids and THEN some!

Ugh. Cheerleaders as VP candidates. Shrill voices. I'm in pain.

Come and listen to a story about a man named John
Who hung around too much with those ole neo-cons,
Then one day he was lookin’ for his comb,
And got to wonderin’ “just how many homes”?
Houses, that is. . mansions . . . big cribs.

Well the first thing you know ole’ John's a candidate,
Karl Rove said "John, get yourself some bait!"
He said "Alaska is the place you ought to look"
Look at Bush One, a face is all it took.
Quayle, that is . . . Deer . . . headlights.

Well now its time to say goodbye to John and all his kin.
And Cindy’d like to thank you folks fer kindly droppin in.
You're all invited back again to this locality
To have a heapin helpin of their ole right-wing spin.

You media, that is. . . set a spell . . .have some barbecue. . . Write a puff piece, heah?

I find a lot of these comments offensive. Sure she's unqualified and a bizarro pick, but it's not necessary to mock her. At her age she has a reasonably impressive resume, just not for VP. There's no need to make her into a dumb hick; she's clearly smart and a natural politician. Of course she's not appropriate VP material and, yes, she could have had the sense to decline, but politicians by definition tend to be opportunists. Being used by McCain and his cronies as a crap shoot (so to speak) and token female is offensive--but kind of sad for her. Her reputation will not necessarily be enhanced by this McCain gamble. (Of course, she seems to have the usual political ego, so she probably feels she's capable of the monumental learning curve.)

But the tone of a lot of the comments is verging on nasty and sexist to no purpose. I don't like her politics but she's seems like a nice woman who is admirably independent and ambitious. I would probably like her if she wasn't an extreme right winger with appalling political values. Is it necessary to tear her to shreds for her less fortunate remarks? It's McCain who is showing his appalling lack of credentials for leadership. She's a pawn.

so let me get this straight, she hasn't seen another part of this country? and you call obama foreign? i haven't been to alaska, but i'm pretty confident when i say it isn't necessarily a major part of the american heartland. if she hasn't seen pennsylvania, or ohio, or florida, the three major states in play, how will see be able to relate to them? she has no idea what's going on with jobs being outsourced. she has no idea of the importance of healthcare, and she has no idea of the housing market crisis. obama may have no legislative experience, but he knows the state of economy in the midwest, and joe biden can relate to the people in the three states i mentioned. i understand the theme of the GOP convention is "not ready to lead" that is so appropriate.

Obama has written and sponsored over several thousand laws in the Illinois and US senate during his career. Do your homework.

The VP is the president of the US. Senate. Do you really think she would be able to follow the Senate discussions or even draft legislation? She doesn't even know what a VP does.

"It's great to see another part of the country."???????????????

Seriously??? Okay, this is painful to watch. The republicans are up to something. There has to be a reason we're not seeing yet....do they want McCain to lose on purpose??? They want Obama in the White House. That has to be the only explanation.

You've always gotta look past the obvious reasons and then the ideological reasons. I'm going for the diabolical ones here. Why the hell did he choose her to be his VP?

in case you didn't catch it- she's in favor of teaching creationism in public school and pro-life/anti-choice.

I had to laugh seeing the campaign stop coverage in PA on CNN. the ticket had "woman for mc cain" signs going and mc cain is on record as NOT in favor of equal pay for equal work!!!

hmmmmm, maybe that is the reason that Alaskans voted for her as Gov. maybe she agreed to a smaller salary since she must not support equal pay for her own gender. So the Alaskans may have figured they could get a bargain with her.

I have wondered if that since they have made such a mess of things the last 7 years, if maybe they have decided to dump it all off on the Dems now. Typical abdication. That is the bad end of the deal if Obama wins. They will blame him for EVERYTHING. I think that is the Rovians' next adventure....

My thinking is that McCain is still seething from the 2000 campain and the way he was treated that this is now his revenge. If he dies in office she will become the next president and she will certainly finish to destroy this country. Just like Bush who had to have his revenge on Sadam and it did not matter at what cost
