I think the idea was to steal the thunder from Obama's brilliant speech on thursday night, get some fund-raising money out of the pick (as they did, big-time), get some good-will points for picking a woman, and then let her bow out and pick someone else. cynical? yes, but it's tough not to be with these guys.
