Palin Repeatedly Professed Desire To Renew Federal Funding For 'Bridge To Nowhere'

During the unveiling of his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R), Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) tried to cast her as a "reformer" and "fiscal conservative." She boldly claimed that with regard to Sen. Ted Stevens's (R-AK) infamous "Bridge to Nowhere," she told Congress, "Thanks, but no thanks":

Personally, I think the "pregnancy from nowhere" will turn out to be the bigger Palin scandal. If she really wanted to "add teeth" to the pro-life message, then she would have been forthcoming in admitting that the 5 month old baby is her daughter's, and that family is a substitute for abortion. But instead she may have told the kind of lie that the media lives for.

I mean, she did a photo spread for Vogue when she would have been 5 months pregnant and no mention in the magazine. Her own staff was surprised by the arrival of the new baby. And daughter Bristol, 17, has been out of school for an extended period of time due to "mono".

Her story of the birth involves flying to Texas for a speech in her ninth month, giving the speech despite water breaking and labor, then flying back to Anchorage for the birth. And people didn't realize because she wasn't showing much. Yeah, right.

That story struck me as very weird even before I read of this other rumor. Any woman who's been pregnant recognizes it is preposterous.

So, Governor Palin was in favor of the bridge as long as the majority of funding came from the Federal Govt but then when the funding was short on the total amount and Alaskans would have to foot part of the cost, that's when she said "Thanks, but no thanks."

I urge Palin to go on a tour of Alaska and advise the folks there that she has turned the corner and is now a "lower 48" conservative Republican and that means that Alaskans should no longer assume the feds will fund the solution for all of the state's problems.
