I Like ItI Don’t Like It

John McCain's Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin was, once upon a time, a sports reporter for KTUU, Anchorage's NBC affiliate. Below, watch a clip of Sarah Heath, the future Alaska Governor and Vice presidential nominee, anchoring a sports report in 1988 — note her discussion of the Iditarod, the now-antiquated reference to the Hartford Whalers, and her declaration that Tommy Lasorda needs to learn how to relax:

She is like George Bush (insert any caucasion cowboy/girl figure here) with a (georgia o'keefe picture here) Shes horrifying!!! The pink frock with the leggings in the grocery store, the extraordinary amount of fur she requires, the scary target practice clip with her hubby, a die hard "Ill keep the Downs baby " pro lifer. Who is she appealing too exactly. If they win it will be the last sign of the impending Apocalypse, no question.

I'd like to video of BHO in his "street organizer" days. That will play well across America.

Check his web site, they are there. Sorry, no disheeki, big afro with pick in the side or angry face with fist in the air. Just smiles and lots of old people seeking justice.

Instead of these snarky posts why aren't HuffPosters scrambling to get Palin's medical records?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:49 PM on 08/31/2008

Because if it turns out that she did indeed adopt her 16 year-old's down syndrome baby, that will only make her more of a heroine to the voters that she is supposed to draw in the first place. By not encouraging her daughter to abort, she is living her conservative values, and the creationist bible-thumpers will eat that stuff up. Many of them would have/have done the same.

Remember how they used to say that class officer elections in high school were just popularity contests? Well, in televisual, prescription drug-addled, entertainment-saturated America, high school did not end after high school. This is all just American Idol.

Rush and Paris are policy experts. Actors are legitimate congressional and presidential contenders.

Amusing ourselves to death.

The fact that she didn't keep a tight enough rein on her daughter to prevent her from conceiving would end the conversation right there. There's no way this would work out for her.

For all of you needing proof that this woman is absolutely, positively qualified to be President, this video should answer all of your questions - she has been reading from teleprompters for more than 20 years, which, as Reagan and W. have shown, is all you need to be able to do to: read the scripts handed to you by the oil conglomerate that controls your food supply, military, government and media.

I would venture to say that even in '88 she read the script more coherently than both Reagan and W. ever could.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:19 PM on 08/31/2008

and obama can read a teleprompter and without it is stumped

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:22 PM on 08/31/2008

I didn't mean to single out only W. and Reagan. They have all been script-readers of various kinds. Those two were just the easiest examples. Reagan was constantly flubbing his lines when off-script ("trees cause pollution", etc.) and W. can still barely string coherent sentences together ("I believe the human being and fish can coexist peacefully").

The President is the people's representative to those who really run the country. If a president at all threatens the agenda of the oil companies (aka "US interests"), they are vilified, discredited, and knocked from power. With the exception of subsistence farmers, any American who believes they are not at the mercy of oil companies is delusional.

How much better off would we be today if congress had implemented Carter's energy independence policy 30 years ago?

If you get into a conversation with Obama let me know how it goes. Extemporaneous agility (though often useful) is often a sign of an appeaser of the audience. It's often confused with some supposed brilliance.

cant wait till the DNA results come back from trig. 99% sure its the daughters baby and not hers. Won't the McCain camp love that. Thanks for the pick McCain, Dems are celebrating the win early.

My gosh! I was trying so hard not to go there, but here you go letting the cat out of the bag. I consider myself a fairly intellegent individual with a reasonable temperment and a natural tendency to address situations logically after securing reliable information from several sources. But the first thing I though of when I heard her speak was how annoying and grating her voice was to my ears. Does this make me superficial now?

A revealing portrait of Palin's former self. Looks like a Christian fundamentalist to me. But her voice! Someone has to help her moderate her voice.

This just weird. When you look at Obama, McCain, Biden, you have a lot of experience relating to war, washington, education, activism, and community. So far with Palin it's just PTA, mayor of a small town, and not even a full term as governor. Um. This is strange.

Well, Cindy McCain likes her!

McCain's wife, Cindy, joined the ranks of the defenders. "The experience that she comes from is with what she's done in the government. And also, remember: Alaska is the closest part of our continent to Russia. So, it's not as if she doesn't understand what's at stake here," she said on ABC's "This Week."

That's right, Cindy -- Sarah can see Russia when she looks out her kitchen window. She knows the Russian people because when she gazes across the melting permafrost, she sees.... oh, never mind.

ROFL.

Biden is as much a cheerleader for war and the military industrial complex as McCain, and is also a corporate Democrat, kind of like a Democratic Dick Cheney. While Palin's social views are wacked, we don't know enough about her foreign policy views (if she has any) to judge whether she'd be any worse than him.

This pick concerns me because so many on the right will look at her as the savior of the party. I was elated yesterday when I heard of McPOW's VP choice, but after reading posts on other blogs, I am concerned. In 2004 I was driving through rural Ohio the day of the election. The deeper I drove into the countryside, the more Bush Cheney signs I saw. Don't get complacent. There are enough people who hunt with big hair who will vote for this ticket.
