Politico:

The selection of a running mate is among the most consequential, most defining decisions a presidential nominee can make. John McCain's pick of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin says a lot about his decison-making -- and some of it is downright breathtaking.

We knew McCain is a politician who relishes improvisation, and likes to go with his gut. But it is remarkable that someone who has repeatedly emphasized experience in this campaign named an inexperienced governor he barely knew to be his No. 2. Whatever you think of the pick, here are six things it tells us about McCain:

It says McCain is reaching for the Hillary voter, won't work, they are thinking women, this gal will only appeal to those who don't. Come on get reall this was a last minute pick right out of the Rove hand book. Palin if the GOP is tying to say a Mother can be VP, well hell that makes every mother in America ready!!! Hell put me on the ticket!! Tells me McCain has no judgement.

It's kind of funny reading a post steeped in ignorance.

It must be really easy to become governor.

But don't let this deter you from your smear. Don't let the truth get in the way...

I'm not saying I agree with booker, but, you can't just say what you did with out facts of your own to make an argument. Hers is an opinion.

A lie would be that she is the most popular governor. It is a lie because she has the highest poll "percentage". That means that a whopping 5-600K people like her. Now a small state like MA has almost that many people in Boston alone. It only takes two cities to be "more popular" but not get the percentage points that Palin has. See, your name is just to make you feel intelegent and means nothing! Enjoy your smearing and BS put downs!

This was supposed to be a pick that would bring in women voters, someone who was supposed to represent women on the ticket. It didn't occur to him to pick Elizabeth Dole, Kay Bailey Hutchison, or Olympia Jean Snowe. Women who actually look like quite a bit of Hillary's supporters and could have bolstered his 'experience' argument. Then it occurred to me that these women have actually been working with the man and may know him too well. Given his history of misogynistic humor maybe they have a bit to much pride to go down in flames with the man.

I completely forgot about Olympia Snowe. She would have brought the independents with her. This is a slap in the face to women in both parties. It seems the ticket offers neither experience nor judgment.

Interesting choices all but I think Elizabeth Dole is too old . Kay Bailey Hutchinson might have been OK but perhaps after Johnson and Bush people are leary about Texas Politicians . I personally like Olympia Snow but she is too much of a REAL Maverick for the Party to accept .
Of course these are just my opinion

The six things, summarized:

1. He’s desperate. Let’s stop pretending this race is as close as national polling suggests. The truth is McCain is essentially tied or trailing in every swing state that matters. ...

2. He’s willing to gamble — bigtime. Let’s face it: This is not the pick of a self-confident candidate. It is the political equivalent of a trick play or, as some Democrats called it, a Hail Mary pass in football. ...

3. He’s worried about the political implications of his age. ...

4. He’s not worried about the actuarial implications of his age. He thinks he’s in fine fettle and Palin wouldn’t be performing the main constitutional duty of a vice president, which is standing by in case a president dies or becomes incapacitated. ...

5. He’s worried about his conservative base. ...

6. At the end of the day, McCain is still McCain. People may find him a refreshing maverick or an erratic egotist. ...

Interesting bio of McCain in the Boston globe. To summarize THAT, see item #6 above.

That's the new buzzword from the rethugs "misogyny" and THE reason why he picked her. In hopes that democrats will be labeled misogynists. Why DIDN'T he pick Kay Hutchinson? Too old, but way more qualified. We won't fall for this misogyny crap.

First poll shows McCain’s stunt has backfired- among undecideds, 59 percent said Palin was unready to be president. Only 6 percent said she was.

She's as pretty as Paris Hilton and Britney Spears.
But....is she ready to lead?

I'm John McCain, and I approved of this running mate.

How's that for an ad?

I don't admire Vladimir Putin (the Russian prime minister) or agree with any of his policies. However, I saw Putin in a CNN interview last night and he came across as a fit and able man who is at the top of his game. Contrast that with a sickly-looking 72 year old McCain and his 44 year old self-described hockey mom vice-presidential candidate and I fear for the future of the United States.

What happened to POW's rather-lose-an-election country first?

One who, once upon a time, would rather break with his Party to do the right thing, now breaks with himself in order to do the wrong thing?

I knew McCain was a pilot but I didn’t know he was a Kamikaze. Did he just fly his plane into the GOP headquarters with everybody inside?

thanks for the clip, that's some scary stuff right there. Did she imply that she would, as VP, work hard for the state of Alaska, or did I just infer that from her comments? Why, if my inference is accurate, should I vote for someone for national office when her agenda is advancing only her home state?

She didn't even want the job when asked two months ago. This is a big stunt to get womens votes. It's kinda sad.

Has anyone looked at this last child , daughter 17 posted in a family picture had a baby bump mom at six months flat as a pancake? Did she make her daughter which by the way was pulled out of school for six months have a child known to have "downs syndrome" ? Who is the father and what does this say about a mother who has capitalized on the fact she would not have an abortion because life was important? What doctor delivered the baby and how did Sarah report to work three days after supposedly giving birth? Uhmm! who is the mother or is she the grandmother?

did you see McCain checking out her butt, he is a lecherous old man, he doesn't care about the safety of our country, all he wants is eye candy, to hell with the platform of national security, as long as he can watch some booty. I died laughing, and the Republicans trust McCain he doesn't have sound judgement anymore!!!

Uhh...YEAH!!

Rule #1 you stand with a firm smile, staring at the ear of the nominee closest to you, nodding and applauding at the appropriate time.

If I'm Cindy and First Husband Palin, I'm going to check into the cost of hiring food tasters....

After a bit of reflection is appears that this is a shrewd move. Which is one of McCain's strengths.

The knee jerk response from the uninformed loony liberals is kind of funny.

Let's just:
1) Make fun of Alaska (everyone knows they're not progressive) hahaha..
2) Exude jealousy at Palin's comeliness (tree hugging granola eaters smell funny too)
3) Attack local dialect (Wisconsin, and most of the south, are nervous)
4) Attack Palin's husband as an 'oil man.' He was a factory guy...yeah.. no college degree... normal guy
5) Proclaim loudly: What about the children?!?! (What about misogyny?!?!)
6) Attack Palin's experience... (ummm... she's a governor, and has an 83% approval rating).

This was a brilliant move that's going to completely outmaneuver the Biden pick.

Instead of picking a candidate that received 18 Million votes, let's pick someone known for inside deals who, after 30 years of service only received 9,000 votes. Can we still proclaim 'change change change change,' when all is said and done?

Looks like business as usual.

I guess this is yet another demonstration of McCain's... "maverick-ness". Everyone acts as though this trait is a *good* thing. This is just insane. Doesn't everyone realize just how *DANGEROUS* it is to have a "maverick" in the highest office in the land?

With McCain it's like purchasing a dozen of eggs from a bomb factory; when you crack one of them open you're never really sure that it won't explode in your face.
