Palin

Politico:

The selection of a running mate is among the most consequential, most defining decisions a presidential nominee can make. John McCain's pick of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin says a lot about his decison-making -- and some of it is downright breathtaking.

We knew McCain is a politician who relishes improvisation, and likes to go with his gut. But it is remarkable that someone who has repeatedly emphasized experience in this campaign named an inexperienced governor he barely knew to be his No. 2. Whatever you think of the pick, here are six things it tells us about McCain:

MCCAIN'S CHOICE IS A STUNNING DERILECTION OF DUTY TO THIS COUNTRY - IT IS NOTHING MORE THAN A GIMMICK SELECTION - STUNT CASTING. NO REPUBLICAN CAN EVER EVER LECTURE ME AGAIN ABOUT HOW IMPORTANT NATIONAL SECURITY IS WHEN YOU WOULD GAMBLE OUR NATION'S SECURITY ON A COMPLETE UNKNOWN WHO HAS NEVER COME IN CONTACT WITH ANYTHING CLOSE TO A NATIONAL SECURITY ISSUE. (note: Obama has been receiving NSA briefings from the WHITEHOUSE and counseling with former national secruity officials for more than year, now, and Biden is the Chairman of the US SENATE FOREIGH RELATIONS COMMITTEE)
JOHN MCCAIN SAYS HE WILL PUT AMERICA FIRST, AND THEN HIS FIRST DECISION IS TO GAMBLE OUR COUNTRY'S SECURITY ON AN UNKNOWN AND UNTRIED GOVENOR FROM A STATE WITH A POPULATION SMALLER THAN THE SOUTH SIDE OF CHICAGO!

It was a hail mary pass to get attention in his direction on the heels of the democratic convention. A seventy-two year old man with obvious memory issues and far less than perfect health will be putting someone dangerously under qualified a heart beat away from the presidency. Now, we know that McCain is a whack job as well. I am not a Republican, but you got to feel kind of sorry for the people that he led to believe might be his VP pick. If I were any of them, I would be feeling more than a little used by the Republican Party and especially John McCain. All political parties are known to be under handed at times, but to literally string that many people along for that extended period of time is more than a little shocking even for Republicans. I mean even Hillary wasn't toyed with this way. She always knew, right from the start, as well as most people did that she most likely wouldn't be Obama's pick. This VP choice made by McCain should have thinking people questioning his character and judgement because he just crapped on a group of people, some of which are his supposed friends, that now have every reason not to help him.

This is an act of desperation on the part of John McCain. It is a complete capitulation to the extreme right wing of his party. McCain has shown poor judgment and temperament by not picking someone like Mitt Romney or Tom Ridge. The intolerance of the extreme right wing of the republic party to a Mormon is very sad. Tom Ridge an extremely popular two term governor of Pennsylvania, former head of Homeland Security, congressman and former Marine is passed over because the far right would not tolerant a pro choice republican with Ridge’s credentials. McCain’s lack of judgment is only exceed by his cowardice and fear of the extreme right wing of the Republican Party that once again place politics first and country last at a time of war and deep economic uncertainty.

With this VP choice the Republican Party has officially declared to those who still had any doubt, that ethical, moderate, pragmatic, and open minded Republicans have absolutely no influence in the GOP on the direction and agenda of the party, and actually entertains hopes that thousands of thinking women and independents will join it. on it's march off a clift. The Republican party is now completely controlled by one wing. The GOP is now the CNP (Christian NeoCon Party). I'm just waiting for the official announcement on Fox News of the name change.

yep, that's exactly right. It's really crazy that the evangelicals have taken over the GOP. I hope the evangelicals don't win this election because global warming is man made and we need to fix it.

Why does Palin have that "Branch Davidian glare" in certain photos?

It was there in her press conference with McCheney too. It alternated with the Miss Alaska runner up beatific smile. Very scary.

His judgment is horrendous at best. She knows nothing about foreign policy or who's running what country...if McConfused 'teaches' her, we're in real trouble.

McCain's choice may prove that he's an erratic gambler, but it absolutely negates his "maverick" status. He's not bucking his party. He's sold his soul to the people he mocked years ago.

When a politician decides to do something "daring" for his party, even though that daring act could be damning for his nation, it is a sure sign that it is time for him to get out of the spotlight and see if he can get a house next to his friend Dubya so they can retire together and leave the nation to the Americans.

Incredible. Ms. Palin has some explaining to do. Sen. McCain has some explaining to do as well. Bad judgment all around those two.

If McCain should win, most of you cheering this pick might be willing to allow him the chance to play Russian Roulette with your families lives, but I'm certainly am not one of those people. This wasn't a maverick move this is desparation and reckless at it's highest form. This brings into question of his mental status!!!
