The Hill:

John McCain senior advisor Carly Fiorina dismissed suggestions Sunday that women supporters of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (R-N.Y.) will turn away from Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) because of her anti-abortion rights views.

"The Democratic party has done a disservice to women by trying to hold women hostage to the issue of Roe v. Wade," Fiorina said on CBS's Face the Nation. "The truth is the most important issue to women, all the polls say this, is the economy. Women are not single issue voters."

McCain's choice of Palin as his vice presidential candidate electrified conservatives who like her views on abortion. Sen. McCain (R-Ariz.) also hopes choosing the first woman to appear on a GOP ticket will attract women voters, but Democrats have insisted Palin's views on abortion will keep Clinton supporters in the Democratic column.

Actually, the Repug party has done a disservice to women by making abortion a religious issue and focusing on a narrow spectrum of issues instead of the broad spectrum of REAL problems we face. I am disappointed in Ms. Fiorina. She is becoming a blind partisan of the wrong side of history.

What's this "held hostage" crap. Women who don't want an abortion don't have one. Period. Apparently, if women no longer have the right to choose, they will be liberated by not having to worry about a choice decision?

Dems tell women they have a choice. Repugs tell women they dont. Everyone who is pro choice is not pro abortion. Repugs have twisted the view of dems so much that even we use the term pro-choice and pro-life. The first term, pro choice, is correct, the second would better be described as anti-choice.

I don't get her point, and I think she is taking a page from Rove. I agree that the economy is the most important issue, and it should be and is with women as well as men. Women are just as hurt by the economy as men are, even more so if they are single moms. I don't see the Democrats campaigning primarily on social issues like abortion. They are campaigning on the economy. Having said all this, Roe v. Wade does remain an important and legitimate cause of concern for women, but it's not all one thing and nothing else with us women. Fiorina demeans us with her remarks.

I don't get her point either - because it's convoluted manipulation and it makes no sense.

It's the religious right that has taken an entire party hostage in an effort to take an entire nation hostage over this issue.

The biggest win for Democrats would be for Roe vs Wade to be overturned. If Roe was ever overturned I predict that there would be an outpouring of female voters in the 18-40 year range that will sweep Democrats into power for the next 20 years - at least.

That might seem like a good idea - however - the people who overturn it will be on the Supreme Court and they are there for life. So even if we do sweep the dems back into power it will be too late. Better to be smart and vote the dems in now!!!

If Roe is overturned, I predict an outpouring of unwanted children into orphanages. The only question is, will they be run by private contractors, or the evangelical churches?

1 in 5 women will that voted for Hillary will vote for McCain?

Yeah... in Arkansas and Idaho and Arizona and South Carolina and the rest of the red states that we have zero chance of winning.

Let them vote with Pat Buchanan... Sarah Palin if they want. I don't give a flying f***, cause they won't decide the election.

pro-choice is simple - believing that women should have the right to CHOOSE what they do to their bodies.

There are a lot of issues at stake during this election. If we end up with a president that has backward economic policies - well we can get rid of him in 4 years. But on the issue of abortion - you've got John McCain clearly stating that he will be a pro-life president and support pro-life policies. That includes appointing judges to the supreme court that will OVERTURN ROE VS WADE. Those appointments are for life, why do you think Bush appointed the young Alito and Roberts??

We already have the most conservative supreme court in history. You better believe I'm going to vote for someone that is going to appoint moderate judges that will reinforce a women's right to choose, amongst other things.

Again, the McCain camp just doesn't get it. There is a difference between pro-choice and pro-abortion.

She's a complete sellout and loser, just ask everyone at HP, they will tell you. There are many CEO'S that have money because they were failures, it's called a golden parachute. This is not a sign of intelligence.

She doesn't have any children because she's been on birth control, like most women
are, regardless of party.

The Republican Party is moving in that direction, against contraception, and Fiorina is selling women out because the issue probably no longer affects her either way.

The fact is, it's Republicans who have forced women of good conscience into the Dem Party because they won't leave the abortion issue alone...we should have been done with the right to choose years ago, but the Repubs keep threatening to overturn it...the Repub Party should make choice a done deal and leave it alone...stop putting that pro life crap in their party platform year after year...Roe v Wade is the law of the land...has been for 30+ years...stop beating it to death and threatening to take away a privacy right women need in their quest for parity and equality..you'd be surprised how many women would move on to other more pressing issues.
We do pay attention to things like healthcare, equal wages, affirmative action, taxes, etc...and you don't show crap for innovation in those areas either, by the way.

The Republicans don't really care about abortion...they just want the evangelical vote...it is the ONLY REASON THEY HAVE BEEN ELECTED

They picked Palin because of her anti abortion stance....because some of the evangelicals have become hip to the fact that they WERE USED

Abortion is NOT the litmus test for women on the left, it is the litmus test for THOSE ON THE RIGHT

It is their mantra...

If they do manage to get their way, and outlaw abortion, they are not going to go away.

Flushed with power, they will set their sights on some other issue---maybe even women working.....

Remember, the new Right organized against Communisim...when that went away, they started in on Liberals...and now Liberal is a dirty word....

Don't let a little thing like your right to choose, keep you from choosing someone who would rather see you not have that right!!! That's like saying don't let a little thing like not being alive, keep you from choosing to committ hari- kari!!! Wow, Carly thanks for the advice...But I'll have to pass on your invitation.

Does Carly believe rape victims and incest victims should be made to

carry a child conceived through these vicious attacks to birth?

McBush does.

Ya, Ya Palin does.

Right. A 13 year old girl gets raped by a family member, and is banned from terminating the pregnancy.
A woman is raped at knife point and is forced to go through 9 more months of hell, being denied any options, like a slave.
So who wants to hold women hostage?

As I understand it, only right wing conservative women are held hostage... they have no choice but to be anti-abortion. True hostages have no say.... I rest my case.

A thought:

As an former warrior for our country and one that would pick up and fight for her again in a second it has occurred to me just now. One of the most dispised act on ANY Battlefield is when you enemy is so completely without honor they will attack you from behind the cover of Women , Children or Holy Shrines knowing you have too much Honor , respect and Integrity to attack them in return.

Now in Iraq and Afghan wars low life cowards do this everyday to our Brave troops and it turns my stomach. But STILL our Men and Women hold TIGHT to our Code of Honor instilled in every Honorable Warriors Heart and Soul.

Then it HIT ME.

What is the Difference from Hiding behind Children or Women and Civilians and Hiding behind the fact that you were a POW 40+ years ago EVERY time ANYTHING is said to or about you. Even if it is to correct a false attack with the proven truth. To use POW to excuse for EVERY misspeak , mistake, gaff, problem , temper outburst or anything else is very hurtful to those with Honor and the MILLIONS of Combat Vets in this Country current and Past.

And now I hear POW is the main message for the convention.

This hurts.

How about hiding behind the fact that you are a mother of a child with Down syndrome, to take away the reproductice choices of other women, including victims of rape and incest?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:28 PM on 08/31/2008

Really, how about the hundred of thousand of children and woman that were killed by the same honorable forces you are talking about. You seem to read with one eye closed. I do not think your army cares one second about anyone but their medals, and now becoming POW.

Carly Fiorina doesn't get it. She is a master of the beltway two step. She got away with it at HP as the CEO until the Board of Directors caught on.

Note she isn't at HP any more and they are really happy campers.....
