The Hill:

John McCain senior advisor Carly Fiorina dismissed suggestions Sunday that women supporters of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (R-N.Y.) will turn away from Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) because of her anti-abortion rights views.

"The Democratic party has done a disservice to women by trying to hold women hostage to the issue of Roe v. Wade," Fiorina said on CBS's Face the Nation. "The truth is the most important issue to women, all the polls say this, is the economy. Women are not single issue voters."

McCain's choice of Palin as his vice presidential candidate electrified conservatives who like her views on abortion. Sen. McCain (R-Ariz.) also hopes choosing the first woman to appear on a GOP ticket will attract women voters, but Democrats have insisted Palin's views on abortion will keep Clinton supporters in the Democratic column.

Dems are the party of CHOICE - leaving choice up to the individual woman. Either she doesn't "get it" or she's being deliberately deceitful.

My guess is deceitful.

Mrs. Palin does not deserve our admiration for deciding to give birth to a child with Down Syndrome. Many pro-choice women do the same thing every day. My question is: just who is taking care of this child while Mrs. Palin is Governor of Alaska? Who will take care of him if she becomes the Vice President? Having a child with special needs requires a tremendous amount of love and time and these things should come from his mother, not a paid caretaker. Most women dedicate their lives to these children. Does she even know him?

Maybe women aren't "held hostage". Maybe they actually care about their reproductive rights?

I'm gay, and I deeply care whether or not a candidate supports my basic civil rights and liberties. Does anyone thing I would vote for someone anti-gay just because I agree with them on other issues. I am not "held hostage". I simply value a politician's stand on my existence more than I care about their stand on the capital gains tax rate.

This is hysterical. Only someone wealthy and anti-choice doesn't see why pro-choice women wouldn't through away their reproductive freedoms, or the ability to have an abortion if they are raped or incested, just to keep a tax cut for the wealthy.

Maybe women can think for themselves and value their reproductive rights. If Republicans feel held hostage because they have difficulty winning pro-choice voters when they are pandering to anti-choice hardliners, who is really holding whom hostage?.

Sorry Carly! Palin is not about "abortion" but rather everything to do with reproductive choice altogether. Hormonal and barrier birth control methods, ... even abortion in the case of incest and rape! The pill as an "abortifacient"? Sounds so HHS to me, ... Oh, now I get it! Your stepping into the limelight for the party!

How many kids do you have? Have you ever used birth control? Did "God's Plan" as you have referred to it for you ever involve birth control methods? I only ask because it seems folks like you in the RepublicRat Party just love to poke their noses into others' private lives. Love to imagine a day again in America where birth control is against te law.

This might be a discussion you want to engage the public and Mrs. Palin in, ... and my guess is that it might not be! Think it over long and hard before you answer!

Or is it that women voters generally don't agree that 15 year old girls who have abortions should be thrown in prison....

It's the repubic party that holds the entire country hostage on this huge non issue. What, in God's name would repubics run on if roe v wade were overturned. They need roe for getting votes. It's their litmus test and they only bring it up on election cycles. As for abortion, I've never had one but as a man that was my decision? The number one cause of lifelong poverty is teenage pregnancy. The number one lead up to a life of crime is being an impoverished, unwanted child. It's all so much fluff as the repubicans NEED Roe v Wade to run on, not to legislate. Judges like alito and roberts are more about breaking down wages and the middle class while complementing the robber barons reminiscent of 100 yrs. ago. It really is, if you are a student of history, 1908 again.

It isn't that women, or anyone, is pro abortion. It's just about it being a woman's choice; a decision she would make - not a man, not a bible, not a church.

That true, we are so much harder on ourselves than God is on us. Even God gives us the right to choose Him.

Comical. The GOP is held hostage by the Religious Right's obsession with abortion. How is it Palin is chosen to be VP with no serious qualifications beyond her pro-life stance? McCain has done nothing but prove how obsessive the GOP is by making this pick. Frankly I feel sorry for Palin. But she should have had enough sense to turn down the offer.

Cracks me up!

Without feminists and the Democratic Party's support of women's rights, Fiorina would have been a typist in the secretarial pool.

We can debate Roe v. Wade -- is it a states' right issue? was it legislating from the bench? But we must remember that the Republicans' enchantment with abortion is not about the sanctity of life but about the right of men to treat women as property.

please people why would anyone listen to this woman she helped HP ship jobs overseas and says Americans don't have a right to jobs!

Anyone who wants to work in a society should have a right to a job and contribute and have time to for one's self too. In God we trust, being pro-life surely should say something about opportunity and livelihood as well?

That's why I'm confused.

I'm curious, does Palin support equal pay for women? If not will she be taking less pay for the VP position?

Carly Fiorina upon her firing from HP was asked what her biggest regret was while at HP. She replied " I wished I had fired more employees". She was a very hated CEO who had zero regard for average Americans. She was a very overhypped executive who got in way over her head at HP and almost ruined the organization. She was more at home hobnobbing with the rich and famous in Hollywood than trying to run a large organization which is one of the reasons she got fired - she wasn't watching the store. That McCain has picked her as a spokesperson says volumes about his judgement.
