GOP Superstars Cancel Convention Appearances

ST. PAUL, MINN. -- As city workers hung American flags and added patriotic-elephant decorations along downtown streets Saturday, tens of thousands of Republicans from across the country began arriving here for the party's national convention.

But the festive atmosphere was dampened by growing concern over Hurricane Gustav, which is bearing down on the Gulf Coast; the arrest of protesters who police say planned riots; and cancellations by several high-profile speakers, including California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Those police raids of houses where protesters might live sound very serious. 20-25 riot geared troops invading people's homes, handcuffing them face down on the floor, taking all their computers, journals, etc. and not showing a search warrent until an hour or so later when they are on their way out the door.

Apparently simply the possibility that people may be planning to protest is enough to subject them to police state tactics.

Meanwhile, Ron Paul is expecting 10,000 at his Rally for the Republic at the Target Center in Minneapolis! And he has a huge billboard reading, "We're being taxed to blow up bridges in Iraq and rebuild them, while ours at home are falling down."

Wonder how much coverage this will get?

Everybody is kinda reluctant to attend the convention beause they have to fill of 4 days of LIES in a row and present them and lisen to them as they were telling the truth. That's kinda not easy to do.

The high-profile absences allegedly due to Gustav will drown out the statement made by the absences of the other high-profilers who are boycotting the convention.
