WASILLA, Alaska - Sarah Palin's hometown rallied around her as mayor - now Republicans wonder if the rest of America will warm up to the surprise pick from cold country.

Though her mother-in-law has doubts.

Faye Palin admitted she enjoys hearing Barack Obama speak, and still hasn't decided which way she'll vote.

McCain must have done something right. He's got virtually every journalist in MSM and huffpo blogger talking about this pick, to the exclusion of everything else...I forgot, who was it again that gave a speech Thursday night? This was a great pick by McCain. It's not just about disaffected Hillary supporters, McCain is going after every rural, blue-collar voter (male and female) that Barry has failed to connect with...you know, the ones that "cling" to their guns and religion..­.the same ones Barry needs in order to win this election. And while you may dismiss this pick as superficial pandering, and thus ineffective, I beg to differ. Rather than feeling as if they’re being patted on the head, many women will identify with Palin's story. Here's a woman who that is a wife, a mother of five, and a successful executive in government. She has beaten the good ol' boy network in the rough and tumble game of politics--all without asking for special treatment or whining. All women may not agree with her positions, but many will connect with her as a woman making it in a man's world. How many votes that translates into remains to be seen.

My husband thinks McCain picked Palin because she was the only halfway viable conservative who was shorter than him.

He's been wondering how McCain would handle the "short man" problem. He looked at the other possibilities and realized McCain was at least half a head shorter than the rest of the (male) possibilities. Senator McCain is itty bitty. He'll be the shortest US President since Adams, if elected.

Gov. Palin's maverick label stems from her opposition to the "Bridge to Nowhere," but when asked if she supported the earmark legislation that would have funded that bridge, at the time, she said,
"Yes. I would like to see Alaska’s infrastructure projects built sooner rather than later. The window is now–while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist. "

So her statement that she told Congress "Thanks but no thanks" regarding that bridge, is a lie.
