Focus on the Family founder James Dobson (an big supporter of the McCain-Palin ticket) released the following statement on Bristol Palin's pregnancy:

"In the 32-year history of Focus on the Family, we have offered prayer, counseling and resource assistance to tens of thousands of parents and children in the same situation the Palins are now facing. We have always encouraged the parents to love and support their children and always advised the girls to see their pregnancies through, even though there will of course be challenges along the way. That is what the Palins are doing, and they should be commended once again for not just talking about their pro-life and pro-family values, but living them out even in the midst of trying circumstances.

"Being a Christian does not mean you're perfect. Nor does it mean your children are perfect. But it does mean there is forgiveness and restoration when we confess our imperfections to the Lord. I've been the beneficiary of that forgiveness and restoration in my own life countless times, as I'm sure the Palins have.

"The media are already trying to spin this as evidence Gov. Palin is a 'hypocrite,' but all it really means is that she and her family are human. They are in my prayers and those of millions of Americans."

IF SARAH PALIN IS SUCH A PRO FAMILY BABE, WHY IS SHE RUNNING FOR VP , INSTEAD OF USING THIS TIME TO HELP HER PREGNANT DAUGHTER ? PLUS , SHE HAS A DOWN SYNDROME BABY, THAT I WOULD ASSUME NEEDS MUCH ATTENTION IN RAISING
I DONT KNOW ALL THE DETAILS OF BEING THE VP , BUT I WOULD ASSUME IT WOULD TAKE LOTS OF YOUR PERSONAL TIME , PERSONAL TIME THAT U COULD USE FOR TAKING CARE OF YOUR FAMILY , I GUESS COUNTRY IS MORE IMPORTANT THEN FAMILY, MAYBE SHE CAN GET DICK CHENNEY TO HELP WITH HER DAUGHTER & DOWN SYNDROME BABY, SINCE IT'S HIS TIME TO PUNCH OUT SOON FROM VP DUTIES, JUST MAKE SURE TO KEEP THE DOUBLE BARREL SHOTGUN AWAY FROM UNCLE DICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And what would Dobson be saying if Obama had a 17 year old pregnant daughter?

Why is this staunchest of repubes referred to as a minister?

I realized a long time ago that I'm not going to agree with every person in this world. But as long as people stick to their principals without irony or hypocrisy, I'm pretty much okay with them. Just don't have the audacity to undermine my good judgment when it comes to matters concerning my own body!

Maybe all this scrutiny will make Paline realize just how personal and private a matter like this ought to remain, whether she becomes vice-president or not. This is not a matter up for the country to debate. It's a "choice" one needs to make on her own with the assistance of those she loves and trusts.

There is a reason that your sixteen year old daughter goes out and gets knocked up in a day when birth control is available from every source in the world. That reason is simple. The daughter is afraid to go ask your mother to help you understand because you are afraid she might fire you as a daughter.
Look carefully at Palin. She is not a nice person. She is a control freak. Notice how every smile is exactly the same. Notice how she is never winging it. Notice how her family does not show her any emotion. She is a hard person and Dobson's views are hard on those that suffer the consequences of their inflexibility.

Palin is a hypocrite just like Dobson and the rest of these un-Christian aholes that act like they are above all others. To think that this man and now someone like Palin are potentially going to be running this country for another eight years is beyond depressing.

Everyone needs to do whatever they can to stop John McCain and this horrible person Palin.

Dobson, just because you speak and believe it doesn't make it true. Just becaue Palin says it doesn't make it true.

Driving while intoxicated doesn't seem like it's living out Pro-life values. It seems like wreckless endangerment which is very anti-life.

Unjustly firing people and taking away their livelihood doesn't seem pro-life to me. It seems very anti-livelihood.

Oh, you were talking about abortion. Yeah, yeah. These are good Christian people that should serve as a role model for all American citizens.

And if Palin had been a Democrat the good doctor would have castigated her as an unfit mother who's career has kept her from watching over her children properly. Dobson, you are a hypocrite whose very existence illustrates why religion and government do not and will never mix. As Barry Goldwater once said of Jerry Falwell, "Good Christians should give him a good kick in the a**." Unfortunately, the good christians do things like turn the other cheek, judge not lest they be judged, and don't stink up their religion by mixing it with politics. Enough's enough. You folks want to play politics with your God, then your church needs to start paying taxes. That was the deal worked out a long, long time ago in this country and you're not living up to it.

Is this the guy that prayed for rain on the DNC? Are rational people still listening to him? He is an idiot and "ministers" like him are why the atheist belief is running so much more rapid these days.

How gracious of Dr. Dobson to admit that people do make mistakes, too bad he
doesn't feel that way about everyone. He berated Senator Obama about a
quote from the Bible. and has never apologize to Barack even when he found
out that he was right. I guess he means only Republicans can make mistake

I doubt Palin is living out "pro-life values" as Dobson would define them. After all, Palin is a working mother whose job is fairly all-consuming, especially now. I see Dr. Dobson as a "mom at home" or at least "one parent at home" type guy. I suspect he would try to impose a different standard on all the rest of us than he imposes on Palin.

For years I have been an admirer of Dr. Dobson and the work that he has done with Focus on the Family. In the last several years, he has totally disappointed me. I am sure that the Palin family would have wanted their daughter to have waited, as many families would, the hypocrisy of it all is that if it had been the Obama's family, the Dobsons of the world would have been saying that this is an indication of their family values and strength of character, etc. When you don't judge or measure others it is different. But when you do (as many Republicans including Dobson do) the scripture stating "with what judgment you judge it shall be judged unto you and with what measure you mete it shall be measured unto you again" becomes a reality. When will they learn? Many of them prayed for rain during Obama's speech only to have Gustav delay or split screen their convention. They need to understand that they do not own God, nor are they representing Him in a righteous manner. They seem only to want power. It is truly sad and gives Christians a bad name.

Somebody needs to sit down the evangelicals and remind them that we're not exactly hurting for human population right now. The concerns that prompted the be-fruitful-and-multiply ethos are no more.

Their ethos is now counter to morality, as in the current environment of dwindling natural resources, it suggests that we still need to have more babies than we can support, feed or find jobs for.

Well done, evangelicals!

How come "abstinence only" sex education didn't work in this case? Isn't that what Sarah Palin promotes?

How many young woman have been injured by the ignorance preached by Dobson and apparently Palin. While I hope the daughter has a wonderful life, her mother has from my view failed her daughter in many many ways- the first of which in not simply helping her daughter understand that there are ways other than abstinence to avoid this from happening- unless the daughter wanted to get pregnant which raises a whole other set of issues. Palin is not the person people think and while this is a private matter, it's the tip of an iceberg that this country cannot afford to have near the White House right now. This was a horrible choice by McCain.

Dobson is a big hypocrite! I just can't stomach anything he has to say! If it had been obama's family oh you would have thought the end of the world was coming!
