Focus on the Family founder James Dobson (an big supporter of the McCain-Palin ticket) released the following statement on Bristol Palin's pregnancy:

"In the 32-year history of Focus on the Family, we have offered prayer, counseling and resource assistance to tens of thousands of parents and children in the same situation the Palins are now facing. We have always encouraged the parents to love and support their children and always advised the girls to see their pregnancies through, even though there will of course be challenges along the way. That is what the Palins are doing, and they should be commended once again for not just talking about their pro-life and pro-family values, but living them out even in the midst of trying circumstances.

"Being a Christian does not mean you're perfect. Nor does it mean your children are perfect. But it does mean there is forgiveness and restoration when we confess our imperfections to the Lord. I've been the beneficiary of that forgiveness and restoration in my own life countless times, as I'm sure the Palins have.

"The media are already trying to spin this as evidence Gov. Palin is a 'hypocrite,' but all it really means is that she and her family are human. They are in my prayers and those of millions of Americans."

Hmmm. Rev. Dobson: Is compassion political? Because just a scant few weeks ago, you and the minions of your movement were asking your followers to pray to whatever your version of God is to intervene during Barack Obama's outdoor acceptance speech.

The Palins problems are their own. On that we can agree. But at least I have not heard any member of the clergy purport to ask God's intervention to punish the Palins for their life circumstances.

Remember how the religious right went bonkers about the movie "Juno"? "Juno" was pure evil according to them.

Palin's children and husband’s shortcomings have nothing to do with this public debate and while I am an Obama supporter it never ceases to amaze me how the so-called right-wing Christian feel free to cast stones of immorality and morality while they themselves, the one throwing the stones, are guilty of the same sins! Palin it is your own party who is playing dirty politics not the Democrats! Palin please tell you family to stand strong and know we (Democrats) love them, also, contrary to what they read in the newspaper. I may not vote with you or agree with your party of choice, but family is sacred! We all sin come short of the Glory of God, Republicans and Democrats alike, yet the right-wing Christians would have you believe that shortcomings are Democrat issues only. They built their whole party on calling Democrats immoral and Republicans moral to the point where millions really believe this lie. They demonize inner city children for keeping their babies and do not pray for their well being. Media! Stop reporting this now before you destroy another person like you unfairly did with Rev. Wright!

You know, the Republicans are giddy about how Palin is firing up their base. What they don't realize is how much it's firing up Obama's base. The stench of hypocrasy is a powerful, powerful motivator for democrats, and I suspect, for a lot of independents.

The faith based Pro-lifers are not about the sanctity of life. They are about having as many babies as possible and they think sex should result in babies. Pro-lifers hate the fact independent women can go out and have sex all they want without having a family. But at the same time they have no problems getting rid of welfare programs for young mothers who don't have enough money to feed their newborn baby. Or sending our young adults out to die for a pointless war that has been proven pointless time and again...

Not Dobson again...did he run out of homosexuals to cure?
Would someone please throw this nitwit under a bus.

According to Dobson, Palin and her family are human and we shouldn't pass judgment on them.

Think about that idea for a moment and the individual associated with it.

When social conservatives pass judgment on everyone else and try to dictate their narrow view of right and wrong, they are getting exactly what they deserve when they "fall."

And as the Rethugs tell it, they don't have sex before marriage. The hypocrisy is so evident that even they know that this story will have legs for weeks to come. Rather than passing judgment on other people for experiencing the same things, they should embrace what Barack Obama said in his speech about coming up with solutions for prevention regarding teen pregnancy, abortion, etc.

I just cannot stand their double-standard. And what really gets me is how they try to artfully downplay the situation and gloss over it knowing that they have tried to imprison the rest of us with their beliefs that keep them and us in bondage on every level.

Isn't Dobson the same wingnut that would never vote for McCain because McSame didn't share their values? Isn't Dobson the same wingnut who was encouraging his listeners to pray for thunderstorms to drown out Obama's speech? Guess God really does have a sense of humor.

So now Conservatives are going to start praising teen moms for keeping their kids instead of blasting them for irresponsibly getting knocked up?

i do commend the palins for being supportive of their daughter. but let's be frank: if the tables were turned and the dem pres or vp candidate were in a similar situation, dobson and his ilk would have pounced on the candidate and raised hell (in every sense of the word). more specifically, if it was one of the obama girls (assuming they were of age) who was pregnant there would have been a feeding frenzy. a black unwed mother would not get a free pass with the far right—she would be prey.

No doubt about it! So now we even have more teen pregnancies with abstinence-only education . Live the life of sins because all is forgiven if you are Far-Right.

I would not believe this is anything more than a cynical political ploy, had dobson been more charitable in his forgivness of others as he is of this young lady.
