Politico:

The looming threat of Hurricane Gustav forced President Bush to cancel his planned valedictory address before the GOP national convention Monday night.

For many delegates gathering here, that's not a bad thing.

Everyone assembled in St. Paul hates the circumstances that forced Bush's absence; concern about Gustav dominated every conversation. But given the deeply conflicted emotions that swirl around the president from within his party, Bush's decision to forgo the occasion saves Republicans an awkward moment.

This statement just says it all for the Repubs....

"I regard Bush 43 as one of the greatest presidents of the last century, right up there with [Ronald] Reagan, and I have tremendous respect and admiration for what he's done," said Clint Moore, a Texas delegate.

Oh please.....

Give me a fracking break!

The President who helped a nation recover from 9/11 and has kept us safe for seven years. Yep, he ranks right up there with the best.

Relieved? It was the GOP that forced Georgie on us....twice. How convenient the the RNC could politicize Gustov!! They were thinking ..phew!! We don't have to listen to more ignorance from Johnie . And Sarah does not have to face...the heat ..yet. Now, what Gustov did not accomplish, and he is a Russian, Hanna will complete, and she is a black, dignified Democratic woman. Will the GOP still play the race card? Let's not get distracted by Sarah's allure. McCain is having a hard time focusing, especially since his focus is on Sarah's posterior section.

This story is a follow-up to an earlier story last week, "Democrats Disappointed Clinton Is Not Skipping Convention."

(I actually feel sorry for you libs. You try so hard to come up with something . . . anything.)

There it is -- the 'change the subject to Clinton scam'. It never works, why even try, Tr0ll?

BTW -- Clinton was one of the many highlights of the convention, but you probably missed that while you were praying for rain!!!

Clinton was one of the highlights of the convention. He really came through for them. Let's not ignore the apprehension about what his comments might be though, especially after he dissed Obama in many of his earlier comments.

i've seen enough posts here to know that both sides change the subject to suit their own needs so don't act all indignant when it's changed back to a democratic theme.

"The looming threat of Hurricane Gustav forced President Bush to cancel his planned valedictory address before the GOP national convention Monday night."

I disagree with the opening line of this article. Bush & Cheney if you recall were invited late in the game to the RNC and after much hand-wringing, the 2 most unpopular humans in the world were scheduled to speak Opening Night. Someone in the McCain inner circle must have had an epiphany and said, "we cannot have bush & cheney here speaking on our behalf" and they were politely uninvited. To save face and create a diversion, bush & cheney are now "closely monitoring" Gustav. Our #1 and #2 were needed so desperately to personally monitor a minor tropical storm after FOX NEWS and the rest of the MSM ran around the clock reporting on the menacing storm. Thousands were evacuated to bolster the new story: the Repubs are so concerned about New Orleans they are only going to half-heartedly celebrate at their convention.

Call me a cynic, but this whole thing stinks to high heaven. Think about it: can you imagine the Repubs using New Orleans as a prop to divert attention away from bush (22% approval rating) & cheney (9% approval ratings) appearing at the convention?

A great reason to produce an ad to highlight the fact of the ongoing struggle in New Orleans, after three years of the Republicans running things. Focus on our Leader not going to his party's National Convention, of which, he is the head, and blame it on Gustav? Where is George? We want to thank you for the last eight years. Are we better off, compared to eight years ago?

Absolutely better off than we would have been with Kerry/Edwards, Gore. And interesting that duriing Katrina both the local Governor and Mayor were Democrats ( and let their own people suffer while not using available busses to get them out!!)

I detect that actually Gustav was a blessing, Georgie was probably just dying to Dodge the Party in which he destroyed, well not totally by himself.

The GOP may be happy that Georgie isn't showing up, but what was there excuse for the last 8 years, POWER in the GOP. All incumbents out, lets get rid of the Neo-Cons and some Democrats too.

I'M NOT HAPPY ABOUT IT

The speech President Bush gave earlier this year in Israel summed up the Democratic party in its entirety. You know the speech I'm talking about? Bush's "false comfort of appeasement" speech.

The Dems are doing nothing but living in that comfort...there will be a rude awakening.

I've never seen, in all of my years, an incumbent two-term Prez skip his party's convention.
If the Repugs had any shame, they would be embarassed about it; but they don't and won't be .
This is a Party totally deboid of what makes a Human, a Human.
