Rove: GOP Attack Groups Need Your Help

Political strategist Karl Rove, freed of his White House role, is encouraging major Republican donors to give their money to organizations that operate independently of the Republican Party and are poised to spend upwards of $100 million trying to elect conservatives this fall.

Mr. Rove, the architect of President Bush's election victories, has been telling Republican benefactors across the country that giving to official Republican Party fundraising committees will not be enough this year, according to people familiar with his pitch over the past few months.

They said Mr. Rove has regularly expressed concern that Democrat-leaning organizations such as MoveOn.org and labor unions could swamp the Republican Party's money machine and overwhelm the presidential campaign of Sen. John McCain, Arizona Republican.

This is a desperate move by a desperate man. Rove knows that an Obama administration may not bring the traditional pardons. Being faced with investigations he is trying to maintain a closer plurality in Congress. In an environment where Republic party candidates can't win, Rove tries to focus on the issues...how ironic.

I think we are missing something very important here, and that is the fragmentation of the GOP from within. Rove asking for help outside of the party, instead of inside of the party, is a good indicator. Also, the fact the neither the standing President nor the standing Vice President will attend their own convention to support their own nominee. Not to mention the choice of an unknown thrown at McCain as VP.

I think McCain and the Bush camp are now at odds with each other and both are flexing their muscles. Each wishes to control the course of the campaign. I think that McCain finally told Rove that there is no place for him in his administration should he win and we are seeing a backlash. McCain is a vindictive person who remembers how the Bush camp went after him with a smear campaign, even to create the myth that his adopted daughter was his illegitimate daughter, and McCain is now is thinking payback. Stay tuned this is going to erupt soon and it ain't gonna be pretty.

I think we grossly overestimated Rove and never thought one could stoop so low. Time has taught us well. I really think Rove is beginning feel a sense of defeat and moving beyond the GOP to create a new base and leave McCain behind to fend on his own. You know damn well it was Rove backed by Bush who pushed for Palin to secure the fundie christian base and when McCain is defeated ,Rove will have a solid base from which to build his smear machine. Do not for a minute think that Rove isn't getting ready to attack Obama on every front the minute he wins. Rove is already looking towards 2012.
