The New York Times talked to GOP Governor Mark Sanford about Bristol Palin's pregnancy today:

Gov. Mark Sanford of South Carolina said that he had heard no discussion about removing Ms. Palin from the ticket. In fact, he said, he thought her daughter's pregnancy would not hurt her with voters.

"People are looking for real," he said in an interview. "Real means blemishes, real means warts, real means real. These family imperfections make people say, 'That family isn't so different from my family.'"

Early reaction among women at the Republican convention to the news about Bristol Palin's pregnancy was almost uniformly supportive.

Isn't this the same governor who couldn't answer Wolf Blitzer's questions about how John McCain's economic policies differ from Bush's economic polices?

I hope Sen. Joe Lieberman will give a speach detailing exactly why Sarah Palin is a better choice for V.P. than he is. How has Sarah over powered Joe's grasp on nation events? How has Sarah left Joe in the dust? How has he been made a fool?

The rumor did not start on the Daily Kos but in her own hometown. Go to ADN.com and view comments.

Why would you think that?

Could it be because Sarah mentioned a crazy Desperate Housewives episode about a mother pretending to be pregnant for her teenage daughter?

The GOP wants to argue that teen pregnancy as "just one of those things that happens." This dismissive stance on such a serious issue creates a dangerous example for teenagers and our country. SO many have worked SO hard to make progress in this area; to show young people how behaving irresponsibly can prevent them from reaching their goals and have detrimental effects on there life, education, job prospects, and potential. This progress is at great risk of being undone.

Our daughters can now look up to the first female republican VP candidate and see her saying that teen pregnancy is an acceptable part of our society... that it is "just one of those things that happens." WE SHOULD NEVER SEND THIS MESSAGE TO OUR CHILDREN!!! This is not a Republican or Democrat issue, it is an AMERICAN ISSUE. For the sake of our country, we cannot permit McCain to send this dismissive message to our children for his own political gain.

Gosh, Governor Sanford, the Palins are really nothing like my family. I am justifiably proud of my family. I don't think Palin can say the same. A mother under investigation, a teen age pregnant out of wedlock and a possible gransdson being claimed as a son. Plus I have never tried to get books banned from the local library nor supported secession of my state from the United States. Like most Americans, I just can't identify with Palin.

I'll bet the governor heard little talk of putting her on the ticket either. And afterall, McCain is proud of making quick decisions from the gut so if she goes, it'll probably be quick and after he consults with his gut. Or his pollster.

Did Gov. Sanford just wake up from a deep sleep? What on earth does he mean, "people are looking for real" he says that the blemishes and warts tell people that this person is just like us. Then why do the Obama's have to be void of any blemishes or warts or realism in order to pass muster with the Republicans. The GOP, John McCain, Sarah Palin and the Evangelical movement are HYPOCRITS OF THE HIGHEST ORDER.

Another shining example of the utter ineffectiveness of abstinence only teaching. It proves that the right wing ,pro life types, REALLY REALLY need and would obviously benefit from a little sex ed in school, since it would appear, as parents, the Palin types don't teach safe sex and how to avoid unplanned pregnancy. Oh wait, this is also a rewsult of home schooling!!! Ugh, she is different from Britnany Spears sister, how exactly???

Well, NATCH what he hell is some delegate or Republican big wig going to say when interviewed about this totally reckless VP choice. She can do anything short of disrobing in public for anyone there to admit this choice was horrendous and even then they would say well she has Jesus now so we forgive. Horrendous choice that John McCain made and an example of what we can expect in the future as he is BOUGHT out by the right wing fanatics of his party. Maverick is NOT a word I would use to describe John McCain. I can only hope she remains on the ticket. It helps Barack and Biden beyond words.

It is the outrage of this electoral period that John McCain show such complete and utter disregard for our nation. John McCain is about John McCain and no one else. Otherwise, he would have chosen a prescient VP who had the knowledge and ability to envelop ALL of America and NOT just the stagnancy of religious zealots who form the base of his party, as indicated by his choice of crazy Sarah Palin. McCain has been supremely reckless in this choice. He shows he does not care a wit about this country he said he loves. I do not know if this will do the trick for our team but surely hope this cements the American public’s vote for the fantastic Democratic ticket. It SURELY should!

I love that we are having a national discussion about the soundness of McCain's first decision as a nominee for president. Dump her, don't dump her; either way it is clear that McCain does not have the judgment and temperament required for the leader of the free world.

I can't believe the GOP spin on this. "Gov Palin should be commended on her pregnant teenage daughter not having an abortion."
