Sanford

The New York Times talked to GOP Governor Mark Sanford about Bristol Palin's pregnancy today:

Gov. Mark Sanford of South Carolina said that he had heard no discussion about removing Ms. Palin from the ticket. In fact, he said, he thought her daughter's pregnancy would not hurt her with voters.

"People are looking for real," he said in an interview. "Real means blemishes, real means warts, real means real. These family imperfections make people say, 'That family isn't so different from my family.'"

Early reaction among women at the Republican convention to the news about Bristol Palin's pregnancy was almost uniformly supportive.

James Carville I love this:

“They tout her experience as mayor of this town in Alaska,” said Carville. “This is the picture of the City Hall. It looks like a bait shop in South Louisiana,” the Baton Rouge native said. “This is executive experience to be Vice President of the United States, to be a heart beat away from the presidency, to have to take over the country when we’re fighting three wars, when we’re having the biggest credit crisis we’ve had in this country?”

When Bachman suggested that Carville’s criticism smacked of sexism, Carville fired back. “Congresswoman, I don’t know how to tell you this, but I supported a woman for President of the United States.”

The picture made a nice impact…

'No way, no how, no McCain.' (Thanks Hillary!!!)

That was perfect. Hillary (and her powerful supporters) are uniquely positioned to point out that unlike Hillary, Palin is clearly completely unqualified to be "a heartbeat away from the presidency".

In key measures of educational background, national experience, foreign policy expertise she' comes up well short and in other measures - judgement, temparament, leadership skills etc. she's unproven.

Yeah, I heard this on CNN last night while I was driving back home. Either Bachmann or Amanda Carpenter cited as one example of Palin's "executive experience" the fact that she apparently got rid of a state-owned airplane and sold it on Ebay. Carville replied incredulously, "You mean to tell me that selling an airplane on E-bay qualifies you to be Vice President of the United States?"

It was funnier than heck! Wish I could see a video clip of the entire segment because Carville really tore apart Bachmann and Carpenter.

Dropping Palin for Lieberman would be a Democratic wet dream. Please do just that. We are hoping for this.

Dumping Palin would be political suicide. The women voters would disaffect harder than the PUMAs did. Worse news is: there isn't much time for McSame to mend wounds afterwards.

At some point McCain will have to wake up and smell the coffee. It's over. He should preserve what dignty he has left and jettison the red neck from Alaska rather than suffer 90 more days of humiliation.

Well, this Palin pick excites the base and insures a lively convention. McCain can drop poor Palin like a hot potato next Monday and claim that he was following the orders of the OLD Guard in the Party when he chose her, and he is convinced more than ever that they were WRONG. People will blather for a few days, but they will forget.

He can turn dropping Palin into the mark of a Maverick. Palin gets to go back to Alaska with her "open secret" and money for the "bridge to nowhere" (which will then replace her nickname as Sarah Barracuda). She doesn't care what anyone in the lower 48 think of her anyway--or else she wouldn't have used that Hillary Clinton line in front of "the base."

I give Palin and McCain props for being Mavericks, but I don't vote for people just because they have opositional defiant disorder.

Well, time to take off my tinfoil conspiracy hat, which was sitting on top of my American hat ;-).

Enough! America is better than this.

It does not really matters that she is not there to take care of her children for the conservatives. What matters thought is that she is the mother of five and they want the media to keep saying that like the fact that McCain was a POW. In the Movie Forrest Gump, Forrest was shot in the bum, maybe he should have becomed president of the USA based on that. They should redo the movie with that alternate endind and he would have taken her love Jenny as his VP. It's realistic I think considering what's going on these days...

McSame is proving time and time again that the only Judgement he has, is the Judgement to lead Our Great nation "To The Gates of Hell"
He has no ideas that will help. his whole platform is a convolution of lies and deception to mask his recyeled Free market solutuions. Their solutions remain the same. leave the solutions to the free marktets, competition, will help prices and provide better services...No No No nO-It has nto worked onver the last 8 years when Republicans had total control over policy and an overwhelming majority in the House and Senate
Free markets are about profit, and in this age of massive de-regulation as promoted By Regan, the free markets are a dangerous place to allow to try to solve America's problems. We need real solutions for the future of our children.

Of course there is no talk of removing Palin, as there has been almost NO mention of any of these issues in the MSM. Only mentioning trooper-gate in passing, no AIP membership news at all, and they did mention that Bristol is pregnant...and just believed the press release at face value (I mean Karl Rove wouldn't lie to us would he?), and thus dismissed the Trig rumor, which I still say is true.

This woman is scary, and would be bad for America, she lies, abuses power, and covers everything up with more lies.

The MSM is rolling over on this one. I'm so glad for the internet....the true bastion of a free press.

Prediction: Bristol Palin will marry the father of her baby, Trig Palin, and will conveniently miscarry the 'baby' she is now purported to be carrying. Nice tidy ending to what was potentially a campaign killing scandal. The truth will come out after the election -

The voters have a right to more info now, not later. And definitive clarity on this issue. It is too important to leave to a simple statement made by someone who has everything to gain by lying.

Republican Family Values V1.01 vs. Democratic Family Values V1.00

The RNC platform appears to require a rather abrupt update to the Far Right and Conservative family values plank.

My oldest niece completed high school, earned a college degree, married and is currently expecting her first “blessing” in November and my brother and his wife are thrilled and looking forward to being Grandparents and are very “proud” of this accomplished young woman. They have promised to be “supportive” as long as the required duties are occasional baby-setting!

This updated version was sanctioned by all the Republican Party effective September 1, 2008.

All parents are encouraged to teach “abstinence only” as birth control and never teach kids sex education in public schools. Then, when your 16 year old daughter partakes of pre-marital unsafe sex, which could have resulted in her catching a STD, in addition to the expected “blessing” . Advise her to marry the father, whether or not she actually loves him and do this all while both parties are only 17.

Call me old fashioned, but when my other two nieces make such decisions, I hope they use their older sibling as an example, complete with the now outdated Democratic V1.00. Of course, should one or both chose the new Republican version V1.01 I am not sure “proud” would accurately describe my reaction, but I would be both loving and “supportive”. I just would never encourage them to adopt the Republican V1.01,

Guvnor, as a resident of SC, allow me to suggest that you try listening to your political intuition. Moreover, I would not suggest that you accept in the case that you become the new "Evangelical Man." Unlike Ms. Palin, for whom it was possible to believe that she did not carry the baggage of the fiasco of the past 8 years, do not believe that this would apply in your case. An examination of the State of the State of SC would not be pretty.

I just wouldn't be surprised at all if Palin was chosen as a 'throw away' pick, to make his later real pick - Lieberman - look more credible in comparison. McCain's pick of Palin based on a 15 minute meeting when she was 7 months pregnant, without doing any background checks or checks into her experience has got to be the most ridiculous political move since George Bush starting a war for oil.

McCain wanted Lieberman.

Rove told his minions that Lieberman's appointment as V.P. candidate would throw the convention into an uproar.

McCain conceded, but with the stipulation that AFTER the convention was over, if things got too hot with Palin's background, she would step down and Lieberman could then be brought in as the V.P. candidate.

That way the conventioneers were pleased and everything went smoothly. By doing it this way, McCain's name would stay in the press as the main story for weeks to come. That's the only way McCain can win by staying in the limelight.

This is the way this will play out.

Like it or not.

I agree. The Republicans are up to something. It makes no sense to choose a VP with so many distractions and potential scandals. It's a setup. And in the end, the American people are the ones that are going to lose. Our country is effectively headed to hell in a handbasket. Oh well, democracy was nice while it lasted.

I find it reprehensible that a parent would put their 17 year old pregnant child through the ringer with the press. Did she think that candidates children were off limits during a campaign? While we would like to believe this ,in this day of 24 hour news it is unlikely. I don't know how McCain could think that someone who cannot control their own underage child could sometime soon be a heart attack from running this entire country..

Republicans: This Party is Known for its' inability to admit a mistake even at the cost of American Lives. They were asleep at the wheel during 9/11 even after being warned by Wesley Clark and the previous administration of the threat of Bin Laden. They have they used fear, manipulation and deceit to strip away the rights of American Citizens. So now they have once again made a hasty decision for Purely Shallow Political Purposes, who in their right mind would expect them to ever admit it. This is further proof that MCSame has poor judgment and I for one do not like the idea of being lead "Straight to The Gates of Hell" by this puppet of the Republican agenda. Which seeks to Abolish the US Dept Of Education, Privatize Social Security, and Eliminate the group benefit and negotiating power employees have had since WW II via the employer sponsored healthcare system. They are truly the "You are on your own party"

Why should we believe anything Sanford says, he's a radical terrorist with connections to William Ayers. He sits on a board with him and even let's him teach at his university. He has no credibility.

ooh, maybe like Barack Obama has ties with William Ayers and sat on a board with him, spent time together. I'm glad you brought that up. Sanford is not running for President but Obama is!!

Obama get blamed for something Ayers did when Obama was 8 years old, give me a break. This man teach at a university and the mayor speaks highly of him and so does his students. You are innocent until proven guilty so why didn't Ayers go to jail?

QUINCYGIRL, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this comment board is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
