Watch

A Democrat sends over this humorous, nostalgia-inducing video of George H.W. Bush checking out his watch during Tuesday night's Republican convention address by first lady Laura Bush.

The elder Bush, who was cheered wildly by the crowd in Minneapolis both when highlighted by speakers and during video biography, quite famously suffered a watch-related gaffe during his re-election bid in 1992. In a televised debate with Bill Clinton, Bush was caught by camera glancing at his wristwatch as his Clinton addressed an audience member who had detailed her struggles in the wake of the economic recession.

The episode, overplayed by the media, made Bush seem at worst uneasy or bored by the story. This time around, in all likelihood, it will only be his daughter in law who is affected by the watch glancing.

Late for a BM, or to puke in someone's lap.

The guy is just always in a hurry, or he gets a new watch very so often that he is fond.

The simple fact of the matter is that the Republicans have the presidential ticket arrangement in the right order. The top ticket of the ticket represents the strongest, wisest, and eldest leadership portion of the team, while the bottom of the ticket represents the compatible emerging leader with the right kind of judgment, experience, and generational connection to younger Americans that will serve the team well.

Sarah Palin was on the right side of the issue during the Gulf War I with Iraq
Sarah Palin was on the right side of the issue with respect to the Iraq Troop surge
Sarah Palin understands that Iran is no tiny little country of little consequence to the U.S.
Sarah Palin understands that Russia has moved over-aggressively against a small
Democracy and friend to the U.S., and that aggression should be met with a strong response and follow-through from the U.S. and G-7 nations, and not some tepid mealy-mouth half-measure that ends up rewarding Russia for a flagrant and belligerent act

This is some sort of sick joke, right?

Sarah Palin has said she hasn't thought about Iraq. How then could she be on the right side of anything then?

Where did you get any of the rest of this bull crap?

Eight weeks ago Sarah Palin did not know what the Vice President does. Now suddenly she is a foreign policy maven?

I see from your profile that you have never been here before. A troll perhaps?

You guys will need to try much harder than this.

And if she could just figure out what a VP does, and how babies are made
she would be perfect.

Graceful Ignorance.
You people would rationalize a blue-bottle sh*t-fly, hovering over a fresh steamer . . . as being a "little angel protecting Sarah Palin's preemie".

Is it any wonder most of the world distrusts your judgement . . . and rationality?

Does that mean you're ok with the US's flagrant and belligerent acts?

Iran IS a tiny little country of little consequence to the US, just like Vietnam, and could be decimated in an instant by the largest, most sophisticated, most technologically advanced military in the whole history of the whole world. What Americans care what goes on in Iran? For real. Who cares?

Answer: the oil conglomerate that controls your food supply, government, military, and media. That's who cares. And that's who fans the flames of expansionism and war into oil-rich lands.

Iraq is threat! Iran is a threat! Terrorists are everywhere! Be afraid! Be scared! Give us carte-blanche to protect our obscene wealth-producing oil rigs, er, I mean "US interests abroad"! Give us no-bid contracts and the largest profits in the history of capitalism! Let the poor and under-educated enlist to fight for 'their country'! McCain/Palin will overturn Roe v. Wade, so there should be plenty of extra fodder.

Home of the brave, indeed. It would be hysterical if it weren't so tragic. I can't wait until we "shock and awe" a few hundred-thousand or so Iranian civilians because they are such a 'threat' to farmers in Iowa.

It's stunning how willingly brainwashed Americans can be.

Looks like someone got the talking points fax this morning.

Did you notice how every Repub interviewed yesterday reiterated the same talking points?

And what exactly is "a strong response" to Russia?

I watched the convention tonight and did understand why President H Bush was checking his watch. Laura was boring, not a gifted orator like Michelle Obama. Did anyone noticed that every time she lied through her teeth, she made some guttural sounds, as though her soul was fighting with her mouth?
I am proud of the dems convention, it showcased the best of America, while the Repugnicans convention is showcasing what is wrong with America.

You know I'd like to creep up there and stick a Nixon slide on that big screen and watch all their heads explode.

Wow! Cindy McCain listened to stories. That is a huge accomplishment. Maybe if she listens to the budget deficit, she can do nothing about that as well.

I know Laura is boring, but Cindy McCain is the absolute worst speaker!!

They need Shemale Ann Coulter to liven things up!!

As I watched President Bush, the senior, look at his watch, I surmised that he was thinking how much sacrifice to have to be surrounded by such common riff raft and how good it will be to get beyond the time when it will be necessary to associate with the servant class except to be bowed to in obedience and dyanastic congratulation and adulation.

In his defense, Laura Bush is as exciting as watching paint dry. Okay, that's an exaggeration, watching paint dry is much more exciting.

I am a die hard Democrat but I like truth more. I don't believe he is checking his watch. He doesn't wear one on that hand, he wears one on the other (check the photo). He is making sure his long legs don't scrape the partition. That said, Republicans ARE just about greed and the return to monarchy. Go Obama!
