Watch

A Democrat sends over this humorous, nostalgia-inducing video of George H.W. Bush checking out his watch during Tuesday night's Republican convention address by first lady Laura Bush.

The elder Bush, who was cheered wildly by the crowd in Minneapolis both when highlighted by speakers and during video biography, quite famously suffered a watch-related gaffe during his re-election bid in 1992. In a televised debate with Bill Clinton, Bush was caught by camera glancing at his wristwatch as his Clinton addressed an audience member who had detailed her struggles in the wake of the economic recession.

The episode, overplayed by the media, made Bush seem at worst uneasy or bored by the story. This time around, in all likelihood, it will only be his daughter in law who is affected by the watch glancing.

One of the younger-looking vets was openly yawning during Dubya's phone-in speech. Around the part where he discussed McCain's military record, no less. And then his father did the watch thing.

The whole night was devoted to tribute videos about Bush Senior, Reagan, the Vets, even a piece on what the U.S. flag means to the average citizen. Not a word about the economy or how they will fix it. Half the crowd looked like they were past retirement age. And whenever problems were noted, the Democrats were blamed. Or the "establishment," as they seem to view it.

And Laura Bush smiling all the way while she gushed over her husband's successful tenure...

I feel nauseated.

Equal time and everything, but I would have been looking at my watch, too. The NeoCon deathwatch continues to tick down...

If you're not outraged, you're not paying attention.

I noticed that none of the speakers last night referenced the lousy economy that W has produced. They talked about "honor," "character," and "country first," but there was no mention of the millions of Americans loosing their jobs, homes and futures.

Why do Republicans love American but hate Americans?

Likely a random firing of neurons in his autonomic system. When you are THAT rich of a mofo, it is always your time.

If I was George W Bush, I wouldn't even support Mccain as he is dissing my son...come on..this happens only in Politics..Look at Laura Bush, we haven't heard her for 8 years, now when her husband's rating is low, she falling low to support her husband.

Thats hilarious. Didn't he do that in that infamous debate??

I guess he knows he's not running for anything anymore, plus the McCain campaign did diss his son (which was also hilarious).

Give the old man a break. He's just checking the time since he has to go back to his bedroom and hump his money.

Why don't you get offline and do something productive with your life? Go to school, read a book, and learn about economics. Or, move to a socialist and communist country and see first hand, what Obama wants to do to America.

Someone should tell Mrs. McCain that little puffed sleeves aren't quite right for women of a certain age.

Ok, I'm a big "I Love Lucy" fan. I saw Cindy's dress from the first night, the long sleeve number with the turned up collar and cinched at the waist. Lucy had a dress like that that she wore when the four of them went to Hollywood. That's ALL I could think about when I saw that dress. Lucy at the hotel iin Hollywood. Sorry, I just had to share.

That hairdo made Cindy McCain look positively matronly and the little girl puffed sleeves were incongruous. She may have lots of money but no class. Meow. It was fun to watch Laura nearly choke when praising her husband. She is the only one in the White House who is not an accomplished liar. You gotta love her.
