Palin

Determined, at least for the moment, to avoid even a hint of replicating the forced withdrawal in 1972 of Vice Presidential nominee Thomas Eagleton, Republicans here are uniformly claiming that absolutely no one - except the press - has discussed, mentioned or even hinted at the possibility that John McCain may have to bump Sarah Palin off the ticket.

"Hell no! No hint of that! None! Nada," declared Republican Pollster Whit Ayres. "All of the talk is exactly the other way," he said, claiming to be stunned by a reporter's inquiry. Palin, he said, "has energized this convention. These people [delegates] are fired up about her. Now they are going to work their hearts out for her."

On the record and off the record, Republican strategists are putting up a nearly united front in a drive to quash public speculation that the growing controversies surrounding the Palin pick, and the growing body of evidence that only a superficial background check of the Alaska Governor was conducted, are forcing the McCain campaign to rethink its choice.

Among the many news stories that have followed the selection of Palin are: There is a special investigation underway into Palin's decision to fire the state Public Safety Commissioner; her 17-year-old daughter is pregnant; her husband has been active in an Alaska secession movement and she has attended meetings of the secessionist organization; Palin helped run a '527' third party political group of the kind McCain has adamantly criticized in the past; and she has come under fire for spending little time with her newborn Downs Syndrome child.

The Republican 'Omerta' strategy is, as one lonely GOP source noted to the Huffington Post, not credible. "Of course people talk about it [pulling Palin off the ticket] over a drink or at breakfast. Everyone agrees that it's not in the cards now, but it's crazy to tell you animals [reporters] that there is a total vacuum of thought."

That note of realism does not, however, prevent the cadre of strategists and operatives here from toeing the line. "There has not been any talk that I've heard," one well-connected player here contended. "Everyone is locking in on her." This source did not declare that a change in the number two spot is forever off the table, however. "He [McCain] is not going to do it unless something that is completely off the radar now comes up."

The McCain campaign and the RNC have issued Palin talking points to delegates who face constant questioning from local and national press about the qualifications of McCain's choice and the floodtide of disclosures about her past and her family. Marc Ambinder posted a campaign email marked, "INTERNAL DOCUMENT - NOT TO BE EMAILED BEYOND CURRENT DISTRIBUTION LIST." It told loyal party members what to say when questioned about Palin's family issues:

"Please see the following points on Gov. Palin's family.

" * Governor Palin and her husband Todd have a loving family and their children mean everything to them. When their oldest daughter Bristol came to them with news that she was expecting a child they embraced her and gave her nothing but unconditional love and support.

Story continues below

"* This is a very personal matter for the family. We should all respect the love they have for the child and the desire all parents would have for their children's privacy.

"* The media should respect Bristol's privacy. That's always been the tradition and practice when it comes to the children of candidates.

"* (If pressed) The children of candidates do not choose to run for office and be thrust into the spotlight."

Thomas Eagleton was announced on July 14, 1972, as George McGovern's Vice Presidential pick, but news stories soon disclosed that he had received psychiatric care for depression, including electroshock therapy. Just over two weeks later, on August 1, Eagleton withdrew at McGovern's request and was replaced by Ted Kennedy-in-law Sargent Shriver.

As of Tuesday night, Intrade, the political futures market, was offering gamblers convinced that Palin will withdraw 8.3-to-1 odds: that anyone betting $12 dollars that Palin would be off the ticket before November 4 would get $100 back if they were proved right.

it's so nice to see all your frustrations thrown into your posts. Well, after all, having Obama as candidate is your biggest punishment. Wasn't it enough all you trashed Hillary? Envy is the worst of all human miseries.

Hillary trashed herself with a little help from Bill. And what did Bill and Hillary do? They were ruthless against Obama. They conjured up falsehoods and fearmongering. They lost big time millions of personal wealth trying to defeat Obama.

History is about to repeat itself with McCain/Palin falsehoods and fearmongering tough talk.

Remember this; our enemy will never attack Palin safe haven Alaska. She can "maverick" all she wants, the Nations Capital will tie her hands to the fire. Maybe they will chop off her triger finger.

With a enlarged Democratic majority in the House and Senate challenging that "maverick" mindset.

I see nothing but gridlock in a future McCain/Palin administration.

What we need are veto proof majorities. If we get that then we can still move this country forward and McSame and she bitch will be useless. A veto proof majority will also prevent them from waging wars of choice.

Watch for cat fight:

McSame and his wife are both PRO-CHOICE. Palin is against abortion even in cases of rape and incest. (Can you imagine a 10-year-old incest victim being required to give birth to the child, regardless the damage to such a "mother"? That's what the Palin wingnuts are about: My way, screw you.)

So watch for cat-fight between Mrs. McSame and Palin.

McSame is NOT pro-choice, he has stated that he will appoint judges to the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v Wade.

But Palin cares nothing of sending her son to a fabricated war. Say no to abortion, yes to war.

Palin's pro-life stance on rape is very short sighted. I guess she doesn't realize that the rapist will eventurlly get out of prison, if they don't get off on a technicality. When he does and he knows his victim has a kid, he's going to order a DNA test, if it comes back positive for him being the father, he now has parental rights. What is the victim going to do then, hmm?

Here's the scenario: Tonight Palin gives her speech. The trained seals in the convention center clap wildly. This weekend, she announces that she has reconsidered and based on the needs of her baby and daughter, she bails out. Next week, McCain shows up on a podium with his arm around Lieberman.

The repubs will be flabbergasted, but they'll go along. The belief is that Lieberman will pull from the center, which Sarah clearly won't. The electoral difference of 3 or 10 (Alaska vs. Connecticut) isn't the big prize. They want Ohio and Florida. Lieberman would bag Florida for sure.

Do not underestimate Sarah-Barracuda.
She rises to the occasion.

She is smart, tough and ruthless.
She really DID sitting Governor Murkowski, and she DID beat Big Oil, partly because they thought she would be easy.
She is NOT. THEY LOST.

Watch her tonight. She WILL hit it out of the park.
Know your enemy.

I think you're on to something - McSame has wanted the turncoat all along - but was warned a floor fight would errupt if he was nominated - soooo, they get past the convention, dump Palin, and avoid the floor fight.

Only thing I'm concerned about is McSame is as stubborn as the current decider-in-chief, so with his back against the wall, he might stick with madam gov.

You're right, it's the same stubborness that freed 50 Million people from tyranny. I would much rather have someone who changes their viewpoint everytime they feel pressure from the bloggosphere. Good call.

Should you be reminded that Lieberman as VP did not bag Florida in 2000!

well, maybe in the course of discussing it a Republican pundit will accidentally admit that there was no way that Pat Buchanan got over 3000 thousand votes in Palm Beach county in 2000.

Biden is more popular in Florida than Joe is. Today one of the leaders from the Democratic Jewish Group came out against this being a low point for Lieberman. It will also sink him with Independents who really don't care for Joe.

I recently saw video of Palin when she was 7 month's pregnant and sitting on a stage, talking with other governors. She had her legs very casually crossed. Any woman who has been pregnant will tell you by they time you are 7 months, it is almost impossible to cross your legs. My gut tells me that there's a whole lot people don't know, yet, about Gov. Palin. I seriously doubt she'll stay on the ticket all the way to November.

McCain is 72 years old, and a cancer survivor. What odds would a statistician place on his survival through a four-year term as president? This may sound ghoulish, but I've just helped bury a relative and a friend, both of whom succumbed to cancer. Now, try to imagine Sarah Palin sitting at a table across from Putin and Medvedev, negotiating mineral rights under the shrinking ice covering the North Pole.

I'm sorry AZM, but I can't imagine Palin sitting at a table with Martha Stewart. This woman has so many dead deals following her that it's impossible to take her seriously except to say she's dangerous beyond imagining. I read this morning that she tried to get her town's librarian sacked because she wanted certain books banned. This woman is a walking Inquisition!

TRANSPARENT, The GOP - depressed, jealous that the Dems had, what in shallowness, they called a"rock star" -comparing Barack with Brit and Paris - mocking the way the envious do.
Now, they have SARAH PALIN!! THEIR OWN ROCK STAR! (like when a teenager is in the dumps because all his friends have car and he doesn't - when he finally does, he's over the moon; if the car has a bad transmission, he ignores it:..BUT -ISN'T It PRETTY?!!- )
They igore the dark side of MCCain's lack of self-control -no proper vetting; jealousy, forcing someone to "equalize" the rock star quotient.
Shame, McCain: disrespecting America by underestimating what happens if you die - and unknown, unvetted "pick" from a low-populated State -deceptively, "the largest State in the Union!!"; mayor in a town too small to need a mayor - c'mon, folks!
The Giddy GOP ignores the dark side of this "gamble" by McCain: it reflects in his impulsive -"Unvetted" decisions - foreshadowing more of the same in the White House, if the USA looses its mind - for the third time.
How thrilled would they be if Sarah was ugly, overweight, or 60 years old? She wouldn't have even been asked.
GOP attendees are gullible (look at the last 2 elections - they don't even suspect its their fault) - anything she says - lies and all- will be met with pounding applause - Faux News morons will pronounce her Queen of the GOP; they'll move heaven and earth to

I think McCain should dump Palin and Pick ME. I know I don't live as close to Russia as she does but I do have executive experience. I worked in accounts receivable for 13 years. I have run and managed my own house for over 30 and have been a small business owner for over 8. I have more executive experience than Palin. I think I would make a great replacement. Oh... and I am goingto Barcelona Spain in November. I can use that as my foriegn experience!!!

let's take a fantasy trip - shall we! McC is at the end of his rope for picking a VP time is short - need to fill the slot - need to get some help - so he turns to the one person who really really wants the job - Dick C. (we all know who really runs the white house) - DC to McC - go with PALIN. So here is the way it plays out - Palin gets on the ticket - re-ignites the base and the team gets in. NOW - the mother of 5, grandma to one on the way - just "can't do it " so she bails out - now we all know that "to be a good president - you need a war - IRAN - why not - need a war leader and here's comes DC with the company that can do it all - Halliburton. off the wall - maybe but the concept is way too scary!

No, they do not "love" her -- don't be as absurd as tabloid fans who don't know the difference between a banana and a watermelon. Love is intelligent -- not mindless emotionalism.

In order to LOVE a person, one must KNOW that person intimately, and over time. What do we know about Palin? She's anti-American secessionist. She's abused the power of her office. And she ALLEGEDLY went into labor in TX, flew hom on 7-8 hour commercial flight, while in labor, bypassed specialized equipment for handling such risky pregnancies, and had the bby delivered by a doctor who is not even a pediatrician/gynecologist.

The question is not about Palin. She is as you say a victim of John McCain's greed.
The question that should be asked is about McCains decision making processes.
Questions about his vetting processes are fair game and are not sexist unless attacking
an old white has become sexist.

You are after all electing McCain first if you vote for the GOP in November.

All this discussion of experience works against McCain since in point of fact Obama has
had much more executive experiences and has done far better in those positions than any of the
other candidates. As a college freshout he took an organization from 1 to 13 employees and from 33K to 700K in donations in three years. Nice work.

McCain was CO of a training squadron for 1 year.

The point that's not driven home is that McCain, if he ever was a maverick, isn't anymore. Now he's a doddering old man, that needs to be "handled". Just as W has been handled for the past 8 years. THAT'S the Bush/McCain connection that should be brought up more. If Lieberman had been picked, he would've taken heat for it, but you know that would have been HIS choice. Now he's taking heat anyway for a VP pick that not only isn't qualified ( and you know she's not), but he doesn't even know her. Sad.

As for those who say that the Dems are running scared, please note, you should be scared too, if these two incompetant puppets(McCain/Palin) get into the White House.

As myself and many other have said: Palin is Harriet Miers.

The Miers selection was a disgrace to the Supreme Court (even moreso than Scalia, which I didn't think was possible)... and likewise Palin's selection is a disgrace to whatever magical branch of government the reich wing fantasizes the Vice President occupies.

I just love the insanity of the Republican Party: Palin has "executive" experience over Obama by being mayor to more woodchucks than people; she has "foreign" experience because Alaska isn't too far from Russia. What is it that Republicans like about her? She's anti everything: anti-freedom of choice, anti-gay, anti-American apparently (she and her husband want to split off from the U.S.). This is one dangerous and inexperienced woman. Obama is right; there's enough to tell the voters about without getting into weird family stuff.

NO RECORD OF PALIN 'SON' TRIG BORN ON THE DATE CLAIMED ... THIS IS BRISTOL 2ND PREGNANCY NOT THE 1ST!!!
http://www.mediatakeout.com/2008/26353-more_palin_drama_no_record_of_palin_son_trig_born_on_the_date_claimed__daughter_supposedly_got_pregnant_while_she_had_mono__attempts_to_force_daughter_to_get_married.html

Gov. Palin needs to take a DNA or blood test to prove that baby trig is hers... all the evidence is supporting that the baby belongs to Bristol, her daughter.
I saw pictures and VIDEO of gov. palin when she CLAIMED to be 7 and 8 months pregnant, AND SHE DIDn't look 7 or 8 months preganant to me... I have six children by two different women so I know what a 7 and 8 month pregnant woman looks like. Palin was not pregnant with trig, bristol was.
Bristol is now pregnant a second time or her 2nd pregnancy is a hoax to force her to marry her boyfriend to cover up for gov palin scandal...... faux-lame and biased news channel and other media outlets who support the GOP are trying to cover-up the scandal... and the oabama campaign is too scared to touch the issue cause they are just scared of being called a sexist for busting palin's chops.
NEWS FLASH: A rumor is not a rumor when evidence to support the claim exist... OVERWHELMING EVIDENCE!!!!

do a search on youtube...
