Joe Lieberman, who will magically transform himself into a "Democrat" tonight over the objections of actual Connecticut voters, plans to unleash at least one barb aimed at Barack Obama's patriotism:

When others were silent, John McCain had the judgment to sound the alarm about the mistakes we were making in Iraq. When others wanted to retreat in defeat from the field of battle, when Barack Obama was voting to cut off funding for our troops on the ground, John McCain had the courage to stand against the tide of public opinion and support the surge, and because of that, today, our troops are at last beginning to come home, not in failure, but in honor!

Lieberman needs to brush up on his colleagues' voting records before he makes such claims. As Patrick Barry points out:

Obama? Cutting off funding for the troops? I wonder if Lieberman is thinking about H.R. 1591, an emergency bill that would have approved $1 billion for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Actually that can't be it because John McCain decided not to support the troops by voting against that bill. Barack Obama on the other hand, supported the legislation. Or maybe Lieberman is referring to the 2nd version of the bill, the one approved by the Senate 51-46? Well that can't be it either, since John McCain didn't show for that vote. Barack Obama did though, and again, he voted for it.

Poor Lieberman, he burned his bridge with the Dems, jumps in bed with the repubs, and is kicked out of the bedroom by Rush and Karl. It was so glaring, McCain was read the riot act by the right wing elements if he chose Lieberman. Where is maverick John, if he was true to that iconoclasm it would have shown. Instead he coward to the right wu=ing zealots.

What about McCain refusing to support funding for the vets?

First they said he voted for the war with George W. Bush giving the troop what they need. Now, they are saying he vote against the troops. These folks are confused.

Maybe we should book Joe Biden for the 2012 convention?

McCain's Voting Record: He Does Not Support Our Troops and Veterans

Tuesday, February 26, 2008 - Since everyone is at least a bit familiar with John McCain’s record when it comes to strolling through a market in Baghdad with hundreds of his closest guards, or how he wants to stay in Iraq for 100 years (except when he flip flops on that).

But not that many really, truly know just how horrific his voting record is when it comes to the troops. And it is pretty consistent – whether it is for armor and equipment, for veteran’s health care, for adequate troop rest or anything that actually, you know, supports our troops.

This is chock full of links to the roll call votes, and the roll call votes have links to the actual underlying bills and amendments. I present this so that there is support and things that can be rattled off when saying that McCain is not a friend of the military. Feel free to use it as you want, but this can be tied into the "Double Talk Express". But here is a very quick statement - John McCain skipped close to a dozen votes on Iraq, and on at least another 10 occasions, he voted against arming and equipping the troops, providing adequate rest for the troops between deployments and for health care or other benefits for veterans.

Senator Lieberman: As an American how can you fervently support the policies of the right wing of the Israeli political establishment, even to the point of instigating an unprovoked war with Iran? We already are deep into two wars without end in the Middle East. Are you not supporting the foreign policy of Israel, even when it conflicts with American national interests? And your betrayal of the goals of the Democratic Party led by candidate Obama communicates the perception that your peculiarly anti-American ideology and self interest out weighs all other considerations for the future of our Country. Such betrayal should not be condoned or initated by leaders of either Party.

He was probably blinded by the lovelight in George's eyes.

What is up with the romantic pictures from the GOP? If it's not this one with Lieberman getting ready to nuzzle George, then it's McCain falling into George's arms in a moment of rapture.

They're free to love who they want but for goodness sake - get a room.

This is the methodology of the republicans and the turncoats that support them.

Just tell outright lies about your opponent and by the time the voters sort out the truth the election will be over.

Obama always supports the troops and Joe Zell Lieberman knows it.

The time is rapidly approaching when the democrats will be back in power again and these warmongers will be marginalized.

The troops had their funding. However, they did not have adequate armor, especially in their Humvees. Who is at fault for that? The Dems?

RTFOL.
