Palin

Lindsay Lohan has taken to the blogosphere to weigh in on McCain's choice of Sarah Palin and the coverage of her daughter Bristol's pregnancy. Sounding wise beyond her years, Lohan blogged on her MySpace page that she is "concerned" and wishes we could all focus on the real issues. The post went up today, and pertinent bits are highlighted in bold.

I've been watching the news all morning, like everyone else - and i keep hearing about the issues related to 'teen pregnancy'- It's all related to Sarah Palin and her 17 year old unmarried pregnant daughter. Well, I think the real problem comes from the fact that we are taking the focus off of getting to know Sarah Palin and her political views, and what she can do to make our country a less destructive place. Its distracting from the real issues, the real everyday problems that this country experiences.

I am concerned with the fact that Sarah Palin brought the attention to her daughter's pregnancy, rather than all world issues and what she believes she could possibly do to change them-if elected. I get Sarah Palin's views against abortion, but i would much prefer to hear more about what she can do for our country rather than how her daughter is going to have a child no matter what.

Maybe focus on delivering some words and policy with stronger impact like Joe Biden.
See below for Barack Obama's thoughts:

From Alexander Marquardt
CNN
MONROE, Michigan (CNN) -- Sen. Barack Obama said firmly that families are off-limits in the campaign for president, reacting to news that GOP running mate Sarah Palin's 17-year-old daughter is pregnant.

"Let me be as clear as possible," Obama said. "I think people's families are off-limits, and people's children are especially off-limits. This shouldn't be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin's performance as governor or her potential performance as a vice president."

Obama said reporters should "back off these kinds of stories" and noted that he was born to an 18-year-old mother.

"How a family deals with issues and teenage children, that shouldn't be the topic of our politics, and I hope that anybody who is supporting me understands that's off-limits." ยป

On another note-the last note- i heard a woman say on TODAY on NBC that teens are feeling as if they have to grow up faster. Really? Because, i think that girls that are CHOOSING to be sexually active and are making a conscious decision to grow up faster..... I think that parents need to recognize how important it is to talk to their children about the things that can result from being sexually active if they aren't protecting themselves (birth control, condoms, etc.)

So-those are my thoughts for the day. Enjoy the music :) xoxo

She then left a link to Rod Stewart's "Forever Young".

Oh good. Another one being of no help whatsoever.

When (a respected business leader) tells everyone who he will vote for _____, let me know. Lindsay and Madonna and Pamela whining why _____ is worthless isn't saying much... for anybody.

Is this self absorbed coke-slut serious? "I am concerned with the fact that Sarah Palin brought the attention to her daughter's pregnancy, rather than all world issues and what she believes she could possibly do to change them-if elected. "
I believe the people who brought her daughter's pregnancy to the forefront were people blogging and speculating that Sarah's daughter with Downs Syndrome was really her grand daughter, and the family was covering up a "terrible secret." The fact is that no candidate wants to explain intimate details of mistakes made by family members. I find it funny that the more effort the media pours into attacking Sarah Palin, calling her a bad mother and a successionist, the higher the Republicans climb in the poles.
Stick to getting photographed without panties, drinking champaigne until the sun comes up, and blowing lines in the bathroom with the other laughing stocks of society please Lindsey! People who actually CARE about your opinion of the election, or your opinion of world politics and affairs are the people who actually scare me! Actors, musicians, athletes and singers are where they are today because most are talented or just good looking. They aren't where they are because of their insight and ability to analyze and educate the rest of us on world affairs. If you had a toothache, would you go see a dentist, or ask Paris hilton for advice on what to do?

I am spitting pissed off about the blatant hypocrisy shown here--how many conservatives would take off into the streets citing a dip in American Moral Decency of Palin was a Democrat?????

Where are the FAMILY VALUES picket signs and marches now????????

How many of them trashed Britney Spears sister Jaime for being pregnant at sixteen "What kind of mother would let this happen?" They cried into available microphones, blogs and boards--and when someone tried to point out that mistakes and life happens with even good parents, you shouted them down calling them immoral and haters of American values!

And how about Lakeisha of the ghetto who found solace in sex because of how deplorable her life in poverty isโ€”I grew up there so I know what is like and what the despair is like. I am now successful, but I haven't forgotten what it was like to be there, unlike Repubs who talk about how easy it is to rise from the ashes when many of them went to school on daddy's dime and don't know crap about what it means to come from nothing.

Those guys talked about bringing the stigma back to teen pregnancy, now, all of damned sudden "its life?"

I have been saying that crap for years and Republicans acted like I was advocating teen pregnancy. I wasn't! I was saying it was "life"โ€ฆ

Conservatives stand for nothing and their VALUES can be sold to the highest bidder!

I won't deny the hypocrisy.

Sadly, and just as ironically, it took a republican for people to realize there's more to raising a child than how good a parent is said to be. Peer pressure, media, and other factors are just as relevant. Even Hillary Clinton was right; "it takes a village".

Ms. Lohan is perfectly correct! It would appear Palin and McCain just want to create a distraction. They have nothing to contribute as far as laying down what they would do for this country and all of us in this economic downfall. They are centering on themselves; McCain as a former POW, and Palin as ... a ... "?" : Accomplishments: Who knows! Does she care about this country ... well, I think her heart is in Alaska and she should stay there!!

Why? She read a speech well (written by a former Bush speech writer, Mr. Scully. Do you really want her a step away from the presidency????

She helped write this speech and gave it to a national audience. The tele prompter did not work for half of the speech and never once did she falter and no one knew until after the speech that there was a problem. Try giving a public speech and see how well you do!

As far as Lohan's comments go; since when is the abortion issue not a "real issue" or one of the "real everyday problems that this country experiences". Nothing has really changed since Roe vs Wade and let's not forget many a politician has been elected (or not) on their views regarding this issue (that's sad to say but that's the way it is). Not to mention anybody with any common sense knows that the first introduction and speech is nothing more than a glorified meet & greet and that the issue of her 17 year old unmarried daughter's pregnancy, if not addressed by her (Palin) in a timely manner, could become a major issue in and of itself. So let's here it for Mz Lohan and her attention-grabbing outspoken ignorance.

Sensible

What parents don't monitor their teens activities, such as a myspace or facebook with pix of them drinking captian morgan out of a bottle, being sexual, saying f**k this, and f*** that?

I check my kids internet use.

her speech was full of attacks that have all been shown as lies...its' really telling that she manages to tell the same speech over and over to crowds who lap it right up and don't notice...really says something about the intelligence of our people...

When will wannabe actors like lohan stop trying to acquire as much media attention as possible by blogging about issues only so they can be more overexposed than they already are.

It's her blog. We have all been making plenty of comments and posts as the not so famous people that we are. Last time I checked she was a person too so let her rock on with her opinion. Just because the media chooses to focus so much attention on her does not mean that she should be forced to be mute on her own freaking site.

tylskie my friend

I couldn't agree more. So many rude people think that if you've got any kind of celebrity you're no longer allowed an opinion. What applesause! How stiflingly conservative.

What a millstone they must be carrying around there necks feeling that they're the final judge of what's right.

Sounds like the youngster has her head on straight. So the lovely girl is blossoming into the lovely woman. God Bless
When I think of my kids at 18 to 20 something I am grateful to have lived long enough to see them as adults.

Wow, my thoughts exactly....I don't get all the negative. I thought she showed a great deal of maturity. The abortion issue doesn't really bother me because as a man, I can't get pregnant. I believe there are enough WOMEN in america to vote on who they want telling them what to do with their bodies. If MEN got pregnant and had the babies, do you think there would have ever, even been a Roe vs. Wade? Can you imagine the courts telling us we HAD to carry and deliver a baby we didn't want? H*ll, forget the alleys, we'd be setting 'em up in the garage!

But, I digress. Good post Lindsey.

This was my argument against WWII. I'm not a Jew. I believe there are enough Jews in America to vote on who they want telling them what to do with their own bodies. I would have opposed the Civil War on the same grounds: I'm not a slave. I believe there are enough African Americans in America to vote on who they want telling them what to do with their own bodies. What's that you say: slaves didn't get to vote? Neither do the babies, not even the ones that survive abortions but are denied medical care--as supported by Obama (when even Hillary and Biden opposed).

While I agree that family members should be left out of the discussion most of the time. In this case it goes to what type of parent Sarah is. Was the pregnacy a result of her mother not discussing birth control with her? Also, can you imaging the sh*t storm that would be coming from the right if Joe Biden had a pregnant, unmarried daughter?
Of course, it's not like Rush LImbaugh would ever make fun of a family member.....Oh wait, didn't he compair a teenage Chelsea Clinton to the family dog?
