McCain Hires GOP Operative Who Smeared Him In 2000

ABC News:

Former officials of Sen. John McCain's 2000 campaign expressed shock and disbelief Monday to learn than the GOP presidential nominee had hired South Carolina political consultant Tucker Eskew.

Eskew, along with Warren Tompkins and Neal Rhodes, were key members of then-Gov. George W. Bush's South Carolina team during the 2000 primaries. McCain and his team long held Bush, Tompkins, Rhodes and Eskew responsible for the various smears against McCain and his family in the Palmetto state during that contentious contest.

Eskew was brought on board the McCain campaign, it was announced Monday, to help prepare Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin for her role as McCain running mate. Eskew will help Palin prepare for her Wednesday night acceptance speech at the GOP convention and for her stump speech as she hits the road, brief her on policy matters, and help her handle the media scrutiny a lifetime in Alaska does not necessarily prepare one for.

In my opinion this story sums up the levels to which John McCain circa 2008 will crawl in order to gain any perceived advantage over his opponent. If he would be willing to sell his Wife and his Daughter's good name out in exchange for a POSSIBILITY at the Presidency, then you have to wonder what other lines MCCain would be willing to kick out and redraw in the dirt.

This story should speak to any woman "values" voter that might consider switching over based on Palin's nomination...that McCain in 2008 would Hire the very same man that attacked his family's honor in 2000 to tutor the female GOP candidate shows the true political nature of the current McCAin campaign.

It was reported on CNN (I believe) that Laura Bush and Cindy McCain met with Sarah Palin to discuss the media attacking her daughter. I couldn't help to imagine Cindy saying .... "Back in 2000 when John was running there was this doofus running -- what was his name? I haven't seen him around lately --- hm -- well anyway he hired a prick to do push-pull polling to lead people to think John had a black baby. As if. It was just horrible. But you won't have to worry about that this time around because the prick works for us now!" And then Laura add. "And Obama's kids are already black." "ha, ha, ha" they all laugh.

When McCain loses this November, he is going to have to face up to the way he ran his campaign, completely against everything he professes to believe in. I do believe that somewhere deep inside this campaign is not the man he is. When he reflects how he sold his soul for this election, he is going to regret it. He has lost the respect of millions of Americans like myself. And this is something he is going to have to live with for the rest of his life. A huge price to pay I would say.

Just one question: John, is it worth it? I mean is it really worth it?

McCain's campaign appears to be falling apart by the day. Whatever there was left of the old John McCain that everyone respected has completely disappeared. In its place is a desparate man, totally lacking in any sound judgement whatsoever. It's really beginning to look pathetic. He's making a travesty of the entire presidential race, turning his campaign into something that would be depicted in a Will Ferrell movie. I can't believe how it's self-destructing before our eyes.

Since the announcement of P@lin for VP, Mcc has truly shown how unscrupulous he really is. How can anyone believe his mantra "Country First" when he has shown time and time again that his ambitions come first. If he has no respect for his own family or himself by hiring someone who totally disrespected him then what respect will he show his constituents? None. Wake up A.merica, there has to be a time when you yourself look deeper in the soul of Mcc to see who he realy is beyond the P OW maverick persona that you may have grown to love. That man no longer exist. The banner he is now carrying is that "it's all about me cause you owe me regardless of who I've become". Ambition is good as a desire for success and to achieve great things, but not at the expense of ones character, honor, integrity and principles or at the expense of the livelihood and security of your fellow man and country.
