Climate change is another area where the platform and candidate differ. The language of the 2008 platform is little changed from 2004, adding that "Republicans caution against the doomsday climate-change scenarios peddled by aficionados of centralized command-and-control government.''

Still, for the first time it uses the term "global warming'' and acknowledges the effect of "increased atmospheric carbon.'' It calls technology and markets the keys to reducing carbon emissions without damaging the economy.

McCain has said addressing climate change would be a top priority if he's elected. He backs mandatory limits on greenhouse-gas emissions and a cap-and-trade system to help bring that about.

So what. It doesn't matter much what he says when one has no reason to believe he would DO what he says, based on past behavior. McDrill has had over 20 years to do something about global climate change (yes, efforts were under way 20 years ago to address this looming problem).

I remember Shrubya running on a promise of working to lower arsenic levels in drinking water. It was only one day in office when he broke that promise.

McCain "backs mandatory limits on greenhouse-gas emissions"

Yeah, so did GW Bush, then he got elected and he didn't need to pretend that anymore. Don't expect any different from McCain.

Not reassuring to me, thinking of carbon credits being traded like...well, like oil futures or SIVs.

No possibility for corruption in the market, eh - it being "self-regulating" and all?

McCain notes that "technology and markets" are "the keys to reducing carbon emissions without damaging the economy," and we would love to hear more details on what that entails.

My client, the American Institute of Architects has put out this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkbUeuLbw40) stressing the need to bolster awareness surrounding the impact of buildings on our environment, considering buildings are the largest contributor of greenhouse gases related to electricity production nationally.

We hope to see this issue addressed by the presidential candidates at some point and look forward to hearing their thoughts.
