Politico:

Radar reported last night that the National Enquirer, fresh off breaking the John Edwards scandal, was hot in pursuit of the Bristol Palin pregnancy story.

"I definitely think we triggered the announcement," Editor David Perel told Politico this morning.

Perel said that the Enquirer has three reporters -- from "the Edwards team" -- up in Alaska. He said reporters were putting out calls all weekend to members of Palin's family and those around her, as well as the family of the father, Levi Johnson. Perel said there was enough to go on for this week's print edition, even before Monday's statement.

Where's the New York Times? Where's Time magazine, Newsweek, the Washington Post?? This is a joke. When did the National Inquirer become the the front-line of real journalism??

Well, I want to see what they've got - but... Edwards cheated on his dying wife with a flake, while using his dying wife as a prop to get himself elected. OJ - well, he's a murd3rer. (i should add, imo)

Perspective!

She's a lousy VP choice - not OJ.

Wouldn't it have been great if Edwards won the Dem nomination, and McCain chose Palin -- and all of this stuff came out at once?? That would have been a HOOT and a HALF!

Instead of choosing our leaders through a leadership test, we'd be choosing them using paternity tests.

LOL

What drama, what excitement, what hilarity! American politics has certainly reached a new high. And the world cannot stop watching. Its reality TV run amok! America's contribution to the free world -- endless entertainment, gossip, war, crisis, and lurid voyeurism.

Just the nation to have the responsibility to lead the free world.

You know, I have not one problem nailing Palin with the facts, and I think she's neither an honorable person nor truthful person. But I'm not thinking politically here; the two babies that have been in question have my first concern.

Palin isn't going to do the decent thing and withdraw. She's a fruitcake who thinks god is on her side (as do all fanatics). The next best thing is to lay off the kids, as their parents aren't going to protect them. We don't have to circle around them like predators catching the scent of an abandoned newborn.

We, as a society, have a choice here; we can circle those children and go in for the kill, or we can act to protect them in the absence of common sense of the parents.

The National Enquirer will (and I'm sure they already have) sleep comfortably at night even though they further the intrusion of media into the lives of these children. It's money for them, and no skin off their noses.

But I, for one, will repeat what Sen. Obama has said, and that is to please back off those kids. Don't make them suffer for the misdeeds of people supposedly in charge of them!

There is a huge difference between attacks on kids of Politicians, such as Chelsea Clinton, which was just plain sick, and those of the Palin family since every single comment has been without malice toward the children. It is studied by us all as a clear and certain picture of the thinking and values and actions of Sarah Palin. It is monumentally significant since the Supreme Court is in absolute jeopardy. Palin's entire spectrum regarding her family are necessary as part of the vetting. The Lord High muckety mucks were apparently satisfied with Palin's accounting. None of the rest of us should be.

Sarah Palin put these family values and situations up for public scrutiny. These situations do give the best picture of Palin possible. Most of all, I feel sorry for the father of the baby. However, the facts must come forth so that we can all form out opinions based on hard core data rather than slander and supposition and guesses.

It is about Rove v Wade, but it is at the core a valid picture of what Palin believes and how she appies her personal truths as an adminstrator and leader. Palin had to know she was putting her children and the baby's father up for deep investigation that would taint their lives permanently. If she didn;t have that much foresight, we should know that too.

Both my father and my mother nurtured me and protected me no matter what. That is my barometer.

Ok, if the NE has a story do they sit on it until after Palin speaks and release the story on Thursday or will they do it for maximum chaos and do it tomorrow just before she speaks. Or do they think they can sit on it until later in the election. They are definitely hinting that there is more to come. That could just be self-serving promotion, but who knows? I've been reading some town gossip and scurrilous things about Levi. But also hints that Trig is really Sarah's baby. Anyway, the suspense is killing me.

It was a little strange how PBS said Sarah Palin's speaking slot hasn't been officially designated. They only believed she would speak tomorrow. What's up with that? Are they really keeping their options open on this? You gotta think that McCain's people are also rushing to find out all the dirt they can.

Don't underestimate the National Enquirer on this...they've got something big and nasty. Like attracts like.

This Palin-Trig pregnancy thing, it is a weird and unsettling series of decisions made by a supposedly rational, mature pregnant woman. It is scary if true. Palin broke water with Trig and bypassed going to modern hospitals in Houston and Anchorage and instead traveled 22 hours by plane and car until Palin could return to her almost primitive facilities in an Alaskan back-country village to deliver a high risk, special-needs baby. Something is not right here. It is too strange a story and Palin still refuses to release her own medical records. Instead, when confronted, she outs her daughter's pregnancy.

If it was my wife, I would be extremely upset and wondering what the hell kind of woman I was married to. I would definitely question her ability to care for my children. Wow. The more I think about it, it's almost criminal if something bad would have happened during the trip or delivery.

"I would definitely question her ability to care for my children"

Me as well. But would the republicans question her ability to care for the nation? Obviously not. That only happens when Dems, or minorities, or lefties, or "godless" people do stuff. Not god fearing (and terrorist fearing) White Americans do so.

Then that's called leadership, maverick, tough decisions, love of family.

LOL

Why do Republicans hate America so much?

wondering if the Natl Enq is going to see this story through or if they're going to leave it at this conclusion which actually makes the whole thing that much more suspicious

At Politico there's a story where an Enq. spokesperson is saying they've got a lot coming about Palin that could last weeks.

See, that's where they fall flat as journalists. Never mind getting the story out - they'll drag it along until the eve of the election - or until it looks like the MSM is catching up.

All is fair in love, war, and politics. My life as a former Republican taught me that. I am tired of you bleeding heart liberals naively calling for people to back off on Palin. I want the "vetting" of Sarah Palin taken to the max, and then a few notches beyond that. Obama can stay clean while the rest of Disenfranchised America put this nation safely out of harm's way that is a McCain-Palin victory. If the Enquirer can pitch in with a juicy story or two or a couple of dozen, so much the better.

Politics makes strange bedfellows--the Enquirer is still slimeball journalism--and I am afraid they will concentrate on the daughter and her boyfriend which are not fair game. If they can shed some light on Sara fine--but leave her children out of it.

I agree that the children should be left ou of it but there are a lot of things about this story that don't add up. Also what would D obson and the E vangelicals say if this was O bama's seventeen year old daughter that was pregnant?

I really am frightened that this woman could someday be president, but I think the Natl Enquirer will come up with nothing. At least, if they investigate and find nothing, this story will be over. Otherwise, this stuff will just go on and on and I want it to end for the daughter's sake.
