New York Times:

Before Senator John McCain delivers his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention on Thursday, Senator Barack Obama will make a marquee appearance of his own.

Call it counter-intuitive. He will appear on "The O'Reilly Factor" on Fox News Channel.

I agree with you. He can handle himself and I am sure O'Reilly has been forwarned about his treatment of the Senator so he better be respectful and let him talk. I don't know how O'Reilly even has a show, he never allows his guest to talk he does all the yelling.

Obama can handle O'Really. He didn't get where he is by being stupid.

Yeah, he got there because he was black.

If Obama had the same record and skills but what was a white guy, Hillary wins the primary.

So true UnbiasView. This is the first time we have had a coronation er nomination by affirmative action ...

If he had the same record and skills and was a white guy (only-he's half white), he wouldn't be Barrack Obama. I here that all the time. What a strange argument!!

If Bill O'Reilly were black he'd be a blowhard who didn't have a job on television.

Let's see, not long ago, Hillary Clinton went on O'Riely and I read here time and time again, no self respecting person/liberal/progressive would EVER go FOX. Now per some, it is the smartest thing Mr. Obama could do. Interesting

Respect and Progressive don't belong in the same sentence . . . Progressive = Socialist.

Wouldn't the NFL or NBA be exciting if it were played under progressive rules . . . no keeping score, if you are winning by a lot you give your points to the other team to be fair, no winners but more importantly, no losers?

Good point CelticMajic, hypocrisy is not just the hallmark of the far Right. As I have always maintained both the far Right and the far Left are mirror images ...

Please, use your brain.

When Hillary went on she was pandering to the right and to smear a fellow Dem. Obama is going for two reasons: to take away ratings from McCain which is, guess what?, a smart move. Second to reach the right and plead his case. I have yet to see Obama sme ar. I could be wrong.

How will he take ratings away from McCain? They will not be on at the same time - and he will raise the ratings for FOX because every one will tune in to see how the interview goes.

Nobody said "the smartest thing he could do". Everyone is saying they trust that Barack will do the smart thing. We were all pissed that Hillary would go on FOX to smear a fellow Democrat. I wish the entire world would boycott FOX but they have an audience and Barack needs to speak to them. So CelticMajic, sit and watch. Hopefully Barack will get some good points out before that jerk tells him to SHUT UP! Actually I hope O'Reilly loses his cool but I doubt he will. BTW is CelticMajic actually Bill O'Reilly's blogger name???

Some advice to Obama:

Don't wear any bling.

Don't ask "where's my M****therF****#n Iced tea?

It's Obama's chance to ask Bill why he hates America so much? Obama should ask Bill to join him in uniting America to make our country great again. Bill will probably say we are already great, and that's when Obama can start Bill what he would do about people losing their jobs, losing their houses, etc. Make Bill look like he doesn't care, is a "hater." Which, of course, he is. He can go on Fox and look and act like the president he will become in November.

If you are losing your house . . . maybe you should have planned for the future and bought a house you can afford in the best of times and the worst of times. Personal Responsibility.

If you lost your job . . . maybe you should have stayed in school, maybe you should refine your skills, get better at a craft and move to a more stable industry. Personal Responsibility.

Our country is great now, you are never going to have a utopian society like many think they can acheive. If our country was so bad, you wouldn't have people flooding here from other countries for a shot at being whatever they want to be.

We'd still have folks like you who probably benefitted from the New Deal and don't care to pay it forward.

I hope you have enough $$$ to make it through four years of McCain.

Everyone that comes to America doesn't feel like America is all that great, it's just that the country they come from is just that dreadful. Walking around on eggshells in some of these countries would make anyone fled to a place where you can roam freely and live a good life without the threat of dictators hanging over your head. Coming here to be free doesn't mean you are in love with America.

...I'm not sure how I feel about this one... :(

...most likely a trap from Bull Orally...

...Sen. Obama is THE master "chess player" and his moves so far have been epically successful...

...however, Bell O'really is also of master --even if of crap...

...I'll chew on this one for a bit...

Obama/Biden 2008!

O'Reilly succeeds because he carries the argument until he gets himself into a corner. Then he starts yelling and makes a mockery out of it. Typically, no one challenges him on his own show because he calls the shots.

I would have to think that, in his time teaching Constitutional Law at the U of Chicago, he had plenty of bright students just itching to get the best of Mr. Harvard Law Review.

So I do think he's tested.

When Edward R. Murrow squared off with Joe McCarthy, Murrow presented his research to back up his statements. McCarthy continued to rant, and never could produce anything tangible. People came around to the realization that he was not credible.

I expect Obama will maintain the same cool demeanor. When O'Reilly flies off the handle, it will look all the more ridiculous because you won't see Barack jump in to the morass.

(1) Obama's not going to lose any of the voters who currently support him, they're expecting anything and everything to be pulled by O'Reilly during this one, and

(2) it's entirely possible Obama's going to reach a few voters -- independents, swing voters, GOP appalled by McCain's choice of Palin, GOPvets vets for whom national security is their number one issue and who are now saying the veep picks are starting to look like the dealbreakers -- who hear nothing about him and his plans for change except what the likes of O'Reilly/Hannity/Rush etc tell them.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:43 PM on 09/03/2008

This'll be great.

I wonder if O'Reilly knows that his boss, Uncle Rupie (The Doch), actually supports Obama (at least he's insinuated it).

I think Obama can adapt to questioning by a guy like O'Reilly; he's done it before. He might not think in soundbites but he can give intelligent answers.

I'd be interested in seeing the statistics reporting how many people tune off of Fox when Barack comes on out of fear for having their brains implode.

Oh yeah, I work for Fox.

Because Obama is a control freak who is scared of being taken off his teleprompter. He is afraid of meeting the old man in a townhall type meeting with no adoring crowds to stroke him. Now everyone is wondering why a man wanting to be the leader of the free world is afraid of Bill O'Reilly?

It is about time.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:43 PM on 09/03/2008

Oh, in case you wasn't watching, everyone speaking at the RNC was reading from the teleprompter, when they wasn't showing video after video or thanking everyone in the crowd. .All you have to do is look at the persons eyes when they are speaking. It is easy to tell when a person is giving a speech live and reading from the teleprompter. John McCain is either going to read from the teleprompter or look down at notes on the podium. I don't know why you and others like you keep acting like Senator Obama invented the teleprompter. Is this because Senator Obama is pretty good at reading from it and McCain isn't, so you want to make the teleprompter irrelevant? I guess it's easy for Republicans to see a teleprompter as irrelevant if they are willing to disregard any of McCains experience in the senate.

Townhall meetings, in places picked by his camp, in places where the people are pro McCain, just like the little gimmick at Saddleback. Why don't he have a debate like everyone else with journalist and commentators asking the questions with a room full of people? His camp had no problem pushing Senator Obama to debate Hillary. When he brought up the townhalls with Senator Obama, this was the reason he gave for the townhalls. He didn't want any of the above mentioned people at the debates. McCain is the one who took the crowds into consideration. He wanted to avoid them as much as possible.
