Barack Obama

New York Times:

Before Senator John McCain delivers his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention on Thursday, Senator Barack Obama will make a marquee appearance of his own.

Call it counter-intuitive. He will appear on "The O'Reilly Factor" on Fox News Channel.

Don't worry. Everybody knows what this is. But he promised O'Really sometime back that he'd go on when and if he got the nomination. If he doesn't go on they'll just do something childish again like start some kind of clock or countdown. He just might as well get it over with now and have it bounce with anything coming out of this convention--if there is a bounce. He's going on right before McCain's speech, so it will be interesting to see what the story will be coming out of the convention--McCain's speech or Obama's interview.

O'Really is such a media hog he'll probably go overboard anyway and make a fool out of himself as usual. I understand Obama met with Fox--Murdoch, Ailes--and negotiated his terms. I'm assuming the show will be more of an interview, and not an ambush. Murdoch is fascinated by Obama according to some accounts, and they probably are all concerned about him possibly becoming president. They must be concerned about the future of their network if they alienate the future president and have to spend the next few years on the outside looking in.
It's now down to the question of money.

Being #1 for 8 straight years legitimizes O'Reilly . . . not an Obama appearance.

Getting ratings doesnt legitimize anyone. O'Rally is a right-wing blowhard. Why should anyone on the left legitimize this phony? O'Rally likes to pretend he's an independent when he's not. Obama should steer clear from this right-wing POS.

BO, if you go on "O" Reilly Factor, I will never contribute a dime to your campaign again. Forget my monthly contribution. Looser.

Hee! It's always especially fun when intolerant types can't even spell "loser" correctly.

Obama wants to be president of the ENTIRE country, so he's reaching out to even the people who watch FOX. I see this as a classy counter to McCain "punishing" CNN for legitimate journalism. Obama's not scared of O'Reilly. Excellent.

If an appearance on O'Reilly is all it takes for you to pull your support for Obama, you weren't much of a supporter to begin with. The man knows what he's doing by going on the show.

We know that Bill O will bring up the Reverend Wright issue and I would say:

1.) Rev Wright was a U.S. Marine and a Soldier. You don't serve a country you don't love.

2) .) Reverend Wright was instrumental in the surgery and operation of LBJ as a hospital tech, and was in the room with LBJ doing his surgery. Rev. Wright recieved letters of commendation from the President Dr's. (I guess if he wanted to kill a white person, that was his opportunity)

3.) Doing Bill Clinton Presidency he was invited to join other ministers to pray for Bill Clinton while he was delaing with .........

This shows that Rev Wright is not anti-white or anti-America, but a harsh critic of his country when he feels it's going in the wrong direction.

There is no eveidence that Reverend Wright ever said any hateful things toward white America, no record of him with Anti-white slogans, no record of him burning the Amercian flag, no record of him not allowing whites into his church, no record of him blowing up any federal buildings, no record of him burning any crosses and no record of him having signs that says : for blacks only.

I'm not a fan of Reverend Wright. However, I think the man has been mis-understood , especially by Fox News and Bill O and Hannity the instigators.

What Channel is this on again, could someone help me please? Ya know I don't watch them, but since my next President is on tonight, I cannot miss the opportunity of seeing him taking it to them on their own turf just like he did at the Saddened Back Church in CA a few weeks ago.

Uuugh... My stomach hurts at the thought of this... This is going to be straight up Gotcha! journalism at best or a smear mongering tar and feather fest. I know Barack is brilliant and adept at answering loaded, tough questions, but he doesn't think in soundbites, which is what the TV format is best suited to.
When giving a speech, he shines like few other politicians in the history of our country, but in debates, question and answer sessions, etc, his answers are thoughtful, nuances and take into account the complexity o the issues. But none of that fits neatly into a soundbite and that's precisely what Billo The Clown will be throwing at him.

But ultimately, my problem is that appearing on his show just further legitimizes him as a "journalist" rather than what he is, a screaming, raging, out of control, right wing nut - the Morton Downey Jr of our day.

I'm only hoping that strategy wise, it does what he needs it to do, which is to steal some of the thunder from the Republican convention.

Barack be very careful and have your SS detail check everywhere. I hope you make O'Reilly wince with your confidence. After all, he was amazed that African Americans used cutlery or whatever when he dined in Harlem.

Wonder if his ratings will be higher than Olberman's for 2600 out of 2601 shows.

My husband just told me that Thursday night football starts the night of McCain's acceptance speech. Any conflict? I thing the Gooper convention is going to get their highest ratings tonight with Palin's speech anyway. Everyone will be turning on to see what she's all about, but it's not going to top the Democratic convention ratings by a long shot.
