Barack Obama

New York Times:

Before Senator John McCain delivers his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention on Thursday, Senator Barack Obama will make a marquee appearance of his own.

Call it counter-intuitive. He will appear on "The O'Reilly Factor" on Fox News Channel.

O'Riely hasn't been that bad lately. In fact he' snot the true Culprit on Fox , iit's SEAN HANNITY. IN fact O'riely has been leaning Obama lately. Especially since the decision of Sarah Palin.

I think it is a smart move. He is taking the news cycle back from Palin on McCain's biggest night. (After they did it to him, Obama still managed to "bounce" and broke the 50% line.) He is showing that unlike McCain and Palin he is willing to talk to the media, even those not favorable to him. He can handle it. I would just wish when O'Reilly talks over him, Obama would just pause, become silent, and let the audience see O'Reilly for the bloviator he is.

Exactly......Who has a chance to be able to make a statement? O'Reilly HEARS on himself and ANSWERS himself. What a creep. And I smell the stench of ROVE

Did you see his interview with Hillary? I watched it and found it to be very fair and it included tough questions. Disagree with O'Reilly all you want, but the fact remains that he has a large audience that Obama is currently not reaching. It is very smart for Obama, if not a little bit late, to go and do the O'Reilly interview.

A battle of wits between Obama and O'Reilly is like a kickboxing match between Jackie Chan and Renee Zellweger.

Obama should take "holy water" and throw it on O'Reilly. We all know how much of a loud mouth O"Reilly is, and he usually does not let his "guest" complete an answer. I do NOT like it.

Last time, Chris Wallace backed Obama into denouncing his supporters and bowing to their talking points. Obama is slick tactically, but he doesn't always perform well in these interviews. That's the problem. For all his plusses and skills he never seems prepared for hostile reporters asinine (but obvious) questions.

******THE FACT THAT I DO NOT LIKE THAT CHANNEL and I ALSO BELIEVE THAT NO_NO_NO Democrat Should Talk To FIX NEWS...... I think this is a "SMARTMOVE" in some ways!

How lucky we are that the media and many others habitually underestimate Obama’s political skills. He always makes the smart move and, somehow, it always surprises the pundits.

How smart has it been that he has appeared so afraid of FoxNews if he can so easliy show how stupid they are?

it is not that he is scared of them.....he just plays that card wisely. If he went on there regularly...then nobody would care. But since he doesn't and gives the appearance that he is too intmidated by them then when he does appear it is a big deal.

I don't like it - specifically, the idea of giving an implicit acknowledgement of O'Reilly as a legit "journalist", who is a bully & liar who has no regard for the truth.

They've been begging him to come on the network for months. And the first time Obama agrees is right in the middle of the Republican convention. This man is wicked smart. And very disciplined.

I think this is Obama's opportunity to show he is tough. When Bill-O tries to speak over him, Obama should stop, then ask, "Bill do you really want me to answer the question or are you going to continue to push your own agenda?" When Bill-O lies (he will), Obama should politely say, "Bill, that is false." If Bill-O keeps trying to get Barack to answer differently, Barack should ask, "Bill, what is it that you don't understand about my answer?" He needs to be calm, but really stick it to Bill-O, calling him on what he's trying to do.

BUT...is he the real father of those two little girls?!?!?! I think we should demand DNA testing just like Palin has had demanded of her! I saw photos of him before the kids were born and he didn't look the least bit pregnant!

this campaign is a chess match. during the primary 'O' made a few bad moves, but still won the match. right now it looks like he's playing blindfolded and still winning. he's about 6 moves ahead of mc....cain.

Of course this isn't about an interview with the Democratic nominee. THIS is about O'Reilly, the self important gatekeeper where everyone who's anyone has to appear on his show, otherwise they're cowards.

No matter how the interview goes, O'Reilly will milk it for a day or two afterwards, analyzing and re-analyzing it, maybe with the body language lady. In the end, O'Reilly will be 'right' according to himself. This is another notch in his belt. What an egomaniac he is.

It's smart of Obama to do it Thursday to take away from McCain's speech. This is like 3 dimensional chess every step of the way.

Good on ya, Barry!

Obama's intelligence is head and shoulders above O'Reilly's; nothing to fear, including trick questions. But I doubt he'd make any new converts among O'Reilly's audience, and then maybe he could.

I think only well-rounded voters want to know DIVERSE opinions...how can a democrat oppose Republicans if they don't know what they're discussing? Are you condeming citizens for being adequately informed? I suppose you would...
