Barack Obama

New York Times:

Before Senator John McCain delivers his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention on Thursday, Senator Barack Obama will make a marquee appearance of his own.

Call it counter-intuitive. He will appear on "The O'Reilly Factor" on Fox News Channel.

This is a shrewd move. Only right wing lunatics actually watch Fox, so Obama has nothing to lose. And he can steal McCain's moment by being on the same exact programming that right wing lunatics will have to watch. And I'll bet O'Reily actually gives Obama a fair outing, since this will be one of the extremely rare moments he gets to pretend he's a part of the mainstream media.

yup. he is going to have the kid gloves on. He loves to bash people behind their backs--but when they actually show up and reveal to him that they are a human being--he's like everybody else, he wants people to like him.
He is going to actually see Barack Obama as a human being, not as an idea. And once he sees that....who knows what else can happen.

much as i hate to even THINK this, i'm willing to bet that bill-o will actually be pretty respectful of barack-o. he'll hammer him on ayers; o will respond honestly, sensibly and rightfully; bill will bait him; obama will shun said bait; they'll move on to other topics on which bill-o will bait him; obama will continue to shun said bite but be eloquent and professional. the match will be roughly a draw, with bill-o crowing about the obama "get," and obama will prove himself to be more of a man than mccain, who couldn't even talk to... larry king? plus he stomps mccain in overall ratings-ness.

then obama gets elected in november.

Perfect timing...McCain bails out on CNN because his spokesman got humiliated with extremely reasonable questions, and Obama, fresh off an incredible performance at the DNC and riding his highest poll numbers of the year, will go on O'Reilly and be perfectly comfortable shutting Bill down. And if his editors mess with the final cut, we'll pretty much expect it AND it'll just be more to discredit his show. Most Republicans that like O'Reilly are voting for McCain anyway, and most who vote for Obama would only watch to see if O'Reilly makes a fool of himself at this point.

You would think Saddleback would have taught Obama a value lesson about going in the Lion Den. He cant afford too many more poor performance.

Obama does O'Reilly

McCain ducks Mr. Softba...I mean Larry King.

Any questions?

This is not a great idea. What is the upside to doing this? I need to hear the big Loofah talk over Obama about how independent he is. People who watch the propoganda coming out of Fixed News aren't going to vote for Obama and he's ahead in the polls so he doesn't need any real boost from this crowd.

Alot to lose, not much to gain. I'll be holding my breath.

Like it or not Fox is far and away the most watched cable news channel. The only thing is if O'Reilly wants to harp on the William Ayers and Rev Wright for most of his questions which will make O'Reilly look shrill if he doesn't balance out the questions with softballs he would throw at McCain. I want to see if O'Reilly apologizes for calling Obama a coward for not coming on his show.

This is a wonderful idea, and I have no doubt that Senator Obama will present himself the most professional manner. And I also don't think Bill O'Reilly won't know what to do with himself when he figures out that Obama won't react to his nonsense. O'Reilly likes to out yell, which he will find difficult to do with Obama.

Senator McCain has cancelled his interview on CNN. In fact, I can only remember him showing confidence with the aid of the cone of silence, lately.

I can't help but wonder how Senator McCain will look at the debates.

Way to go Barrack Obama!

Obama, by just being himself, has exposed charlatan after charlatan. I thought, going by mainstream media accounts, that Obama's appearance at the religious right forum was somehow less than satisfactory. Until I saw it. He came across as genuine and eloquent and he won not only the crowds respect but obviously, the moderator as well. McCain followed him and came across as lackluster and sloganeering, garnering only tepid applause people supposedly in his corner. While I feel O'Reilly is odious and lacking in any journalistic ethics, Obama will bypass him and reach some of his viewers. Any typical bloviating on O'Reilly's part will only blow back in his face.

Why? Maybe no one told him he did terrible at the Saddleback forum.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:35 AM on 09/03/2008

Mc "knew" what was going to asked prior to Saddleback and well-rehearsed on top of that. What part of that didn't you get?

He wasn't terrible. He was thoughtful, and sincere. And I think that at least some of those evangelical women, who know from teen pregnancy etc., appreciated his having a sympathetic, don't-have-all-the-answers except wanting to help young mothers, approach to the right to life.
Does anyone here actually believe that anyone really wants the supreme court to overturn Roe v. Wade? Even the far right folks who are excited about Sarah and Bristol spoke about what Bristol was doing as a '"choice" that they admired.

I know for a fact, many rightwingers have abortions. I think the thought of them losing the right to choose, scare many of them. Reality is a mutha.

Obama committed to it some time ago I believe. If Obama can beat Hillary then O'Reilly should present no problem. The NFL starts on Thursday and with Obama on O'Reilly will anyone watch McSame? Game set and match to Obama.

PS. I heard thru the grapevine that McSame was going to a announce he was a POW. Did anybody else hear that?

Though I never post comments here at HuffPo, I do enjoy reading them immensely every day.

Senator Obama should ignore the Fox Network and not waste our Tivo capacity.

In any case, it's very likely the loyal Fox viewers will mistakenly save KO & Chris by accident when they frantically change channels trying to find out were their beloved Bildo went.
