After several months of scrutinizing Barack Obama's former place of worship, reporters are now taking a close look at Alaskan churches frequented by presumptive Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin.

As the Huffington Post reported earlier Tuesday, Palin addressed a gathering at the Wasilla Assembly of God, asking them to pray for oil pipeline development and "God's will" in Iraq. Meanwhile, the Boston Herald and Newsweek have both identified Wasilla Bible Church as the Alaska Governor's most recent church. And it was at that Bible Church where a recent guest described a Palestinian attack on Israeli citizens as part of God's judgment coming to pass on Earth -- an analysis likely troubling both to Jews, as well as to mainstream foreign policy analysts.

Describing a trip by his son to Jerusalem, Jews for Jesus founder David Brickner described the a July Palestinian bulldozer attack against Israeli civilians as part of God's "judgment."

That speech, from August 17, is posted on the church's website, along with all other recent addresses delivered to the congregation.

In a talk entitled "The Jerusalem Dilemma," Brickner also went on to describe all of the problems in the Middle East as related to Jerusalem. "But what we see in Israel, the conflict that is spilled through the Middle East, really which is all about Jerusalem, is an ongoing reflection of the fact that there is judgment," Brickner told Palin's church, adding: "Judgment is very real and we see it played out on the pages of the newspapers and on the television. It's very real. When Isaac [Brickner's son] was in Jerusalem he was there to witness some of that judgment, some of that conflict, when a Palestinian from East Jerusalem took a bulldozer and went plowing through a score of cars, killing numbers of people. Judgment -- you can't miss it."

Listen to Brickner here.

Brickner's analysis tracks with various other strains of evangelist Christian eschatology, but finds decidedly less favor in foreign policy circles. With Gov. Palin's views on foreign policy mostly unknown, and the McCain campaign thus far ill disposed to the idea of making her available to the national press, it's unclear how much stock she personally puts in Brickner's theory. An email to the McCain campaign asking for clarification was not immediately returned.

I didnt care what a guest speaker said in Obama's ex-church, so don't care about guest speakers in Palin's churdh.

I more interested in what Palin says she believes, does, and says.

And to suggest that her pipeiine plan was God's will is to me..... let's see..... how can I put this delicately?.... INSANE.

What can be learned is that extremists on both ends of the political spectrum have used religion as a means to further their agendas...another reason why religion is a crux and a hindrance to peace and reason in this world...

Sarah Palin did not say that. A preacher in her church said that. However, this does not really matter. Sarah is an Evangelical and I believe she said, on more than one occasion, that everything depends on god and is his will. Her god is Jesus. According to evangelicals *jews deny Jesus*. Jews, therefore, have to be converted, and they should not be too obstinate about that. Any resistance, obviously, comes from..you know who..In some areas, I have never been to Alaska, christians believe that you only should own one book, everything is in it, and that is the christian bible. What matters is does she go to church? Does she go to the right church? Does she say her prayers? Sarah's preacher does not stand alone, if he did indeed make statements as cited, nor does Hagee. Jimmy Carter also believes that the Palestinians are right and should continue their atrtacks, for example. What I have found to work is knowing their scriptures, and knowing it well, and then citing from it. Then I do not disagree with them, or deny Jesus, but I use instead Jesus' words, rather than denying him, to indicate that their conclusions are incorrect, or at least not approved of right there in their own bible. To state that an attack in Jerusalem with a tractor being driven into innocent people and even children, is god's punishment against innocents, can not be defended. It is murder, intentional murder, and is forbidden.

Your points are ridiculous! Shall I elaborate? Here goes.
1. It is NOT according to evangelicals that Jews deny Jesus! Practicing Jews accept Jesus as one of the Prophets, which evangelicals know. However, Jews deny that Jesus is the Messiah who was foretold by God and the Prophets.
2. ALL churches call for the conversion of the unenlightened. Can you name one, Abrahamic, religion that does not?
3. Can you cite a single mainstream Christian who insists that Christians must own only one book, the Bible? I've heard that nonsense before, but can find no basis for it.
4. Any believer can defend the statement that such attacks are God's punishment for straying from his tenets. After all, the Old Testament is full of such punishments. You say it cannot be defended, which seems to imply that your viewpoint can be defended. Please do so.

This may help with your understanding of the Jewish position on Jesus.

I don't know where you get your misinformation but practicing Jews do not accept Jesus as a prophet and evangelicals know that. Jews for Jesus is a fringe group of Jews who decided to go the other way. As in, not practice Judaism.

Many Jews are respectful to others beliefs whether it is in Jesus or the Trinity, but please do not put out there that practicing Jews believe that Jesus was a prophet. Read your bible. Stop spreading lies.

If Jeses were around today, he would be a Democrat! Caring for the middle class and the needy, focusing on what is good for the majority instead of the select few and respecting women enough to believe that they and they alone should have control over their own bodies. But more importantly if Jesus was around today, He who was humble and good, would be so disappointed that his teachings have been turned into a game of political chess.

It would appear from your post that you consider the people who hold the Torah as their revelation as "unenlightened".

That reminds me of the comment attributed to Harriet Miers about how President Pan was the smartest man she had met.

My reaction then was Sister Harriet needed to widen her circles a bit more to develop more experience.

I have the same reaction to your post.

How about lower unemployment than the Clinton years!
How about constant economic growth, in spite of the wishes of the Left.
How about the removal of a despot, replaced by an elected government, however fragile.
How about an enlargement of NATO, with the inclusion of Ukraine.
How about the removal from the ranks of the living of a goodly number of terrorists.
How about a fully blooded military, making the rest of the unfriendly world think twice about provoking us.
And my favorite of the moment, how about enraging the Leftist loons of the world.
That's off the top of my head. How many more do you require?

In the (real) world I live in

(1) Ukraine is not a member of Nato and has not formally been offered membership.

(2) The US military is overstretched. You may want to read the recent piece by Stratfor on how Pan's excellent adventures in Iraq and Afghanistan have limited US ability to project military power in the rest of the world and have given the Russians a free hand to reassert themselves.

(3) As to unemployment, the rate was 7.30% when President Bubba was inaugurated it was 3.9% when he left. For President Pan, the July 2008 U/E rate was 5.7%.

(4) As to economic growth, see companion post with BEA statistics.

While I'm not a troll, I can name two very concrete accomplishments.

First, during the last 7 plus years I haven't seen a single American flag burned in my neightorhood. I don't know about you but I believe that the true cause of global warming was all the flags that were burned during President Bubba's term. In fact if my politics permitted it, I would file a disability claim for the "black lung" disease I contracted during his term of office from the smoke from flag burning.

Second, since 9-11 there has not been a single terrorist attack in the USA. As well, neither my family and I have been abducted by aliens nor followed home by terrorists. As well, no comets have struck the Earth and ended life as we know it.

I think that just goes to show what President Pan has accomplished.

Didn't God talk about "love thy neighbor" and "do unto others as you would have them do unto you?" Then how come these religious nuts keep thinking God is a warmonger and an oil barron? And why would God talk to them anyway since they are nuts. Maybe some antipsychotics would help. I don't know what kind of people believe the crap these so-called religious groups spew, but they need to get their heads together and stop validating this loonies.

Why is this not a bigger issue? McCain has nominated a complete unknown for VP, and she's being kept under wraps.

Biden and McCain have both run for President a few times each, and Obama's been under scrutiny for 4+ years... while we have barely 60 days to get up-to-speed on this unknown McCain has proffered as best qualified to replace him as President and Commander-in-Chief.

arrg. I know it's easy and gleeful to jump on her because of the inane statements of her pastor. Almost impossible to ignore.... but we haven't heard about Rev Wright (sp?) in long enough that I forgot how to spell his name, and I like that. Bringing in her pastor, will only bring the Wright back in to the conversation.

I'm a strong Obama supporter, but what a visiting preacher says in a church that Palin attends is totally irrelevant. This is how the righties tried to blame Obama for what Father Fleger said about Hillary. Let it go please.

We citizens have the right to free speech. WE THE PEOPLE pay taxes.

If churches want that same right, to speak on political matters, then they should pay taxes like you and me. Moreover, I thought breaking the law of the land (when it isn't in conflict with God's law) was wrong and condemned by God? Maybe that should be the topic of next Sunday's sermon, as a refresher.

And this "church" still has its tax-exempt status, why?

Do you really think it is wise to start talking about the things being said at the candidates' churches?

By the way, the GOP has been completely mum about Rev. Wright. It was Senator Clinton who turned it into a campaign issue.
