Palestinian Attack In Israel Part of God's Judgment, Said Recent Guest At Palin's Church

After several months of scrutinizing Barack Obama's former place of worship, reporters are now taking a close look at Alaskan churches frequented by presumptive Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin.

As the Huffington Post reported earlier Tuesday, Palin addressed a gathering at the Wasilla Assembly of God, asking them to pray for oil pipeline development and "God's will" in Iraq. Meanwhile, the Boston Herald and Newsweek have both identified Wasilla Bible Church as the Alaska Governor's most recent church. And it was at that Bible Church where a recent guest described a Palestinian attack on Israeli citizens as part of God's judgment coming to pass on Earth -- an analysis likely troubling both to Jews, as well as to mainstream foreign policy analysts.

Describing a trip by his son to Jerusalem, Jews for Jesus founder David Brickner described the a July Palestinian bulldozer attack against Israeli civilians as part of God's "judgment."

That speech, from August 17, is posted on the church's website, along with all other recent addresses delivered to the congregation.

In a talk entitled "The Jerusalem Dilemma," Brickner also went on to describe all of the problems in the Middle East as related to Jerusalem. "But what we see in Israel, the conflict that is spilled through the Middle East, really which is all about Jerusalem, is an ongoing reflection of the fact that there is judgment," Brickner told Palin's church, adding: "Judgment is very real and we see it played out on the pages of the newspapers and on the television. It's very real. When Isaac [Brickner's son] was in Jerusalem he was there to witness some of that judgment, some of that conflict, when a Palestinian from East Jerusalem took a bulldozer and went plowing through a score of cars, killing numbers of people. Judgment -- you can't miss it."

Listen to Brickner here.

Brickner's analysis tracks with various other strains of evangelist Christian eschatology, but finds decidedly less favor in foreign policy circles. With Gov. Palin's views on foreign policy mostly unknown, and the McCain campaign thus far ill disposed to the idea of making her available to the national press, it's unclear how much stock she personally puts in Brickner's theory. An email to the McCain campaign asking for clarification was not immediately returned.

The entire ruckus about Rev. Wright had little to do with what Wright was saying. As this shows, similar stuff gets said in 'white' churches every week. With Rev. Wright, the whole trouble was that a black man was saying it, not what he actually said.

Let's not play these same games that the conservatives brought out against Obama. I'm talking about this blame by association game where Obama suddenly became responsible for every speaker at Trinity and every view ever expressed within the confines of Trinity were attributed to Obama. The comments that Palin made are appropriate targets for criticism, but let's please not hang Brickner's comments around Palin's neck.

I understand what you are saying about not playing games, but if the shoe were on the other foot you can be sure that the Repubs. would be screaming about how can Obama go to a church that has guest speakers who are so, wait...Rev. Michael Pflaeger spoke at Trinity and the right went nuts!

In other words, treat Palin differently.

I mean no disrespect, but those attacks against Obama's church where being made by Senator Clinton, your party's standard bearer.

It's not just about treating Palin differently, it's about being different ourselves. I am better than holding Palin accountable for the silly diatribes of her Pastor.

And personally, I think anyone who believes in God is more than a little disillusion, but I am still going to vote with a big smile on my face for Obama.

You didn't read what BrAdams was saying: neither Palin or Obama should be blamed for their church's speakers...

Only problem with this formula is unless we start hearing about a slew of bad associations by Palin, the comparison wouldn't be apt...Obama's problem was not just Wright...if it had been, it would have been a short-lived story.

I feel uncomfortable about this, too--although what was sauce for the gander is sauce for the goose in this case...of course the McCain campaign will not see it this way.

Nice job on that last incomplete thought, and post. Did you try real hard coming up with that stroke of brilliant analysis, or did it come naturally?

My guess is Jack Daniels gave you a hand.

Judgment. POOR judgment.

"All good is of God; All evil is of man." God is not doing the judging, nor is God doing the bombing. Last I heard, man is doing it. Last I heard, man has a choice to either communicate or kill. This is not God's judgment; it is man's choice, and it is a bad one.

These people would blame the evil in the world on God. I prefer to see the good in the world as being of God. As for the evil, man set the rules, needed a scapegoat and created God in that image. That being said, these people are more in their God's image than they care to realize.

Thank you for those words. As a christian and a democrat, I get tired of being lumped in with these extremist. They miss an essential part of Jesus' message, to love one another, not to judge, and that we all have a choice.

Just because some of us don't believe, doesn't mean that our moral compass is that out of whack with yours, moral being the key word. And as far as judgement...I have never met a more judgmental group than most Christians I know.

No one needs a "god" to be a moral person. You need to be taught by you parents to be moral. And therein lies the dilemna...lack of education.

These people DO say that the current wars and the possible war in Georgia are for their Christian God. Palin said it about Iraq, and McCain wasted no time talking about the Christians and the beautiful churches in Georgia that had to be defended. They're nuts and warmongers using God as the excuse.

Sean Hannity has always obviously hated Barack Obama. He has been so nasty about him since day one, I always wondered why. This is NOT Barack Obama. He and others like him are just so dense and simply do not get that most of the world does not think like them. They think everyone is a conservative except "the way out liberals." Hey Sean if you see this, it is not Barack. A LOT OF PEOPLE simply do not think she is appropriate because of yep her experience but most importantly her beliefs. They are simply way way way to far to the right-they are extreme.

That Hannity is trying to blame Obama for this only goes to show how screwed the Right Wingers recognize they are.

Maybe AIPAC hugged Palin to their breast a little too quickly today. But, heck, if they can forgive their great pal, Rev. Hagee, for claiming that the Holocaust was simply part of God's plan to "hunt" the Jews into Palestine, then they must be able to forgive just about any insane claims any Evangelical might make, as long as the Evangelical supports the bombing of Iran, etc.

This sure is tempting to milk for all its worth and shove it the faces of the GOP but I, as I am sure, most of you, have been annoyed to death with a similar fiasco during the primaries. I do not want to invite that discussion again in the general. The good news is if the GOP thinks it can revitalize criticisms of Obama's past religious affiliations..."pay back is b@#*!" will be an understatement.

I agree. Just because this guy spoke at her church doesn't mean she believes what he says. Hold Palin responsible for her own words. She's made enough questionable comments for us to talk about from her until the election.
