I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Palin

Washington Independent:

Earlier today, First Lady Laura Bush urged us to remember Gov. Sarah Palin's record as mayor of her hometown from 1996-2002 when assessing her experience. I agree.

Driving around this city today, I decided it looks more or less like a string of strip malls, 45 minutes northeast of Anchorage. I couldn't help but think that being mayor of a place like this would be something akin to running a large neighborhood watch.

The main highway that runs through town is lined with new big-box stores, including a Target and a Wal-Mart. A handful of fast-food chains as well as some local restaurants also sprinkle the main drag. Breathtaking mountains, the peaks still lightly dusted with snow, create a striking backdrop. Despite the chain stores, this small city feels distant from the rest of the world. I'd have guessed Palin would have run the city with a "we're in this together" theme.

It turns out she had a somewhat different approach. If a small-town mayor ever ruled with an iron fist -- it was Palin. Eleven days after taking office in 1996, she mailed letters to each of the city's top managers requesting that they resign as a test of loyalty.

I'd like to see her try that even as block captain in Manhattan. This woman is a little thug and like the Hillary Clinton Campaign -- is trying to use the faux feminist victim narrative "poor little me" campaign tactics/messenging -- while having a history of abuse of power (Hillary's White House travelgate, etc.) issues that make real feminists CRINGE. This also sounds like the Bush/Cheney Admin. and you have to wonder WHY they need these kinds of "loyalty tests" -- and what are they hiding?

The connection between these "loyalty tests" and her/Todd Palin's (apparently co-Governor working for BP?) pressuring other firings for PERSONAL REASONS, needs to be investigated thoroughly by the PRESS. McCain cannot be trusted to vet Sarah Palin because he is making judgements strictly based upon political (Rove/Bush/Cheney White House) reasons... and will LIE. We should just say it. Sarah Palin was NOT vetted properly and FBI checked. Period.

Sarah Palin and her spouse have been functioning like they have a little kingdom and will do whatever it takes -- and LIE -- to maintain it. Perfect for Bush Inc. I know she doesn't know what the job of VP is -- that she lobbied for an entire year -- but, if she reads the Constitution she can kill two birds w/one stone and find out America doesn't have a MONARCHY or DICTATORSHIP.

All they want for their little KINGDOM are your tax dollars and sons/daughters to fight THEIR wars-for-profit.

The Republican Party should be TRADED on the NYSE. Then, maybe we ALL can get in on the sweetheart deals, no-bid contracts w/no standards or accountability money train?

This is the kind of information the public really needs to know about. Her style of leadership, history in local or state government and what the people in Alaska can tell us of their experience with her. We do not need to hear stuff about personal family matters. It is how she governs that suggests the type of VP (or potential President) she might make. If this is true, then she certainly would not be the kind of person we would want leading our nation. We've already had someone with this kind of leadership style for the last 8 years and we can all feel the pain. We do have a right to question who she is, what she stands for, and how she intends to serve. I just hope the bloggers stop with all of the other nonsense that distracts from what's important.

Agreed. My only issue with her personal life is that she brought it up to rebut the rumors, vs, telling us 'hands off,' and her integrity with the issue, especially since she professes abstenence should be taught to young adults.

Just heard on "Morning Joe" (MSNBC) that Palin went back to work 3 days after having her baby. Perhaps she was concerned that if she stayed out too long, there could be a takeover by former employees, and she could be thrown out . *** Palin's story just gets better: her water broke while she was at a conference in Texas, she gave a speech, she got on a plane and flew back to Alaska, then had her husband drive her to their town, and finally had the baby, then went back to work after 3 days. She is said to have talked with her doctor about all that was going on. Wow! What a WOMAN!

Each new story about the presumptive vp is more scary than the last. I had no intention of watching the convention, but now I probably will.
