Cindy

In a one-one-one interview with CBS' Katie Couric, Cindy McCain says she disagrees with Sarah Palin on abortion:

COURIC: Some, even Republicans seem surprised that Senator McCain picked a running mate who opposes abortion even in-- in the cases of rape and incest and believes creationism should be taught in schools. And I'm just curious, do you believe--or do you agree with that?

MCCAIN: What I agree with is the fact that she is a social conservative, she is a reform minded woman, she is someone that will shake the-- the-- Washington up, which is exactly what we wanna do. We differ on many issues, we differ with-- across the board with people. We don't have to agree on every issue.

COURIC: Abortion has suddenly become, again, a hot button issue, because of her--

MCCAIN: I think to you all it has--

COURIC: Well, I think probably, at least, it's reported that a lot of people are now talking about this. And I-- where do you stand on abortion?

MCCAIN: I'm pro-life, I'm on the record as being pro-life, like my husband.

COURIC: So, do you oppose it even in the cases of rape and incest?

MCCAIN: No.

COURIC: No? So, that's where you two differ--

MCCAIN: Uh-huh (AFFIRM).

ISaracuda has a "get out of jail free" card--she CLAIMS to be anti-abortion. That alone would cause the religious self-righteous forgive her for anything she could ever possibly do. Hate the country and want to seceed from the lower 48? No biggie, she's antiabortion. Using political office to bully and fire people, without regard for due process? No problem. She's antiabortion. Lie, cheat and steal? No problem, she's antiabortion.

I'd laugh if I wasn't so sad to see what the RR will decend to. Sad--just not surprised.

The GOP has a big window with lots of dressing in front of a very small tent.

Cindy McCain's had no choice with her answer since she was already on the record. But, she certainly had trouble stating that they disagreed. It was dragged out of her. It is hard for a family values platform to have a first candiate's wife and a vp who preach but do not live family values.

Being on record doesn't slow Sen. McCain down one bit. He just lies anyway.

I'm going to suggest to Palin and McCain that an exception should be made for women who are former POWs.

Go McCain Palin! Whether you're pro-life or pro-choice, it's a decision for women to choose no matter what party you support!

I think she's saying just what McCain had hoped she would say--that she's voting for his ticket for no other reason than because he has a woman on it.

As for whether or not she knows what that means........

Actually, there is only one party that offers you a choice on the abortion issue, venus. I'm not sure I have ever read a more misguided rah rah statement that that. Even Cindy's opinion will be swept away if they get Roe overturned.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:50 PM on 09/03/2008

that's right and that's why we have to keep Roe V Wade untouched and keep that choice not matter what. Sarah is scary...but good for us because no one in their right mind can vote in this circus!!

Senator McCain has intentionally and arbitrarily insulted American WOMEN voters by knowing the controversy surrounding Governor Sarah Palin character, lack of foreign policy and experience would ruin his chance of defeating Barack Obama in November. To show party unity within the republican base, gain support from evangelical voters he chosen Palin. McCain /Lieberman ticket would show discord among the base and evangelical during the convention. McCain announcement will come before the Palin vs. Biden debate.

Once again these culture wars are anathema to the Constitution and about the real business of politics. Why should the state or the Federal government for that matter have any say on a woman's right to choose to have children or not.

What kind of party commits itself to forcing women to have children regardless of the circumstances, but doesn't provide the resources (healthcare, daycare, education, etc) to support and nurture that child). What kind of party preaches abstinence only and tacitly tantalizes young people to engage in risky behavior without understanding the consequences or taking precautions?

That's the problem with the current Republican Party -- It's their way or no way. Cindy McCain and others are being disingenuous .

This election has to be about bigger things than where you stand on abortion. It has to be about the greater issues of tax policies and infrastructure that promote family welfare and the general good. Let us sinners deal with squaring our conscience with God and let Government worry about conducting the real business of the American people.

Word!
I couldn't have put it better.
Your post is spot on!
Distractions is what the Republican Party is about.
This is the way they run their campaigns, because if people were to look more at what they DO, as opposed to what they SAY, it is insulting.
All they do is change the subject when it comes to facts and we as a society wind up arguing about issues that our federal government really has no business getting involved with.
RUN OUR COUNTRY DAMN IT!
That includes being fiscally responsible, providing clean water, decent roads, and the opportunity for each of us to better our lives.

See this confuses me because it's not like one of those issues where you disagree on some small detail, like "I think planned parenthood should distribute condoms only to people who request them." This is like, if you get raped, you have to have the child. If you are raped by a family member, you have to have the child. That's very, very different from accidentally becoming pregnant and deciding for whatever reason you aren't ready to have a child. This particular detail is what currently seperates the conservative and fundamentalist views on abortion, and it's telling which road this convention has chosen to go down.

My husband's great great great grandfather was Russian that practically makes me qualified to be Secretary of State. Hey now to think of it I've eaten at On the Border on more than one occasion so I'll add Latin American Affairs and Immigration specialist to my resume. If I saw Into the Wild can I claim to be a Wildlife and Survival expert too....

I was a Hillary supporter.

You know what leaves me cold?

Putting gender over competence.

Americans, including women, will not be fooled.

Sarah Palin is a gimmick.

It's been less than a week.

America is learning VERY quickly.

We're tired of being manipulated by the GOP.
