Cindy McCain Says She Disagrees With Palin On Abortion

In a one-one-one interview with CBS' Katie Couric, Cindy McCain says she disagrees with Sarah Palin on abortion:

COURIC: Some, even Republicans seem surprised that Senator McCain picked a running mate who opposes abortion even in-- in the cases of rape and incest and believes creationism should be taught in schools. And I'm just curious, do you believe--or do you agree with that?

MCCAIN: What I agree with is the fact that she is a social conservative, she is a reform minded woman, she is someone that will shake the-- the-- Washington up, which is exactly what we wanna do. We differ on many issues, we differ with-- across the board with people. We don't have to agree on every issue.

COURIC: Abortion has suddenly become, again, a hot button issue, because of her--

MCCAIN: I think to you all it has--

COURIC: Well, I think probably, at least, it's reported that a lot of people are now talking about this. And I-- where do you stand on abortion?

MCCAIN: I'm pro-life, I'm on the record as being pro-life, like my husband.

COURIC: So, do you oppose it even in the cases of rape and incest?

MCCAIN: No.

COURIC: No? So, that's where you two differ--

MCCAIN: Uh-huh (AFFIRM).

Isn't it rather ironic that the right wing is quick to attack anyone who comments on Palin's daighters pregnancy/ They say it is a private family matter and that politicians and the media should stay out of it because she is a minor.

However if one of our minor daughters makes the decision to have an abortion suddenly they want the politicians to make sure she cannot meke this ultimate private decision.

Let's face it Palin's stance on abortion is the same as all of these fundamentalists. They view the right-to-life as starting at conception and ending at birth. After all the safety net to provide healthcare, education, clean air, clean water are not the responsibilities of government. And if 4000 of these lives have to be snuffed out in a cooked up war what the heck. It is a small price to pay for what was supposed to be cheap oil. Give me a break.

I don't like his stand on this issue. But I disagree with you.

I was really bothered by O's remark about Clarence Thomas. I'll tell you why. I can't stand Thomas, but Mac attacked him on intellectual abilities, and I thought that was pandering to whites.

I could see disagreeing with his rulings. But on his intellect?

That type of stuff makes me nuts about O. I don't like the way he does this.

I would LIKE to think that Mac has signalled loud enough..........I'm not a Republican in a box. They will go along with moderate appointments to the Court, provided they aren't raging liberals who use the courts to change policy.

Good for Cindy. A lot of Republican women liked Hill. I'm sure they didn't like 100% of her platform. Ditto for Republican women on Palin. They aren't all cookie cutters, and neither are Dems.

I think it's going to be soon that we see that the Roe vs. Wade argument subsides. Republican women support their conservative friends and their right to make choices for their families, but enough are now speaking out about the differences among them, too.

This is good. This issue has divided the country for long enough.
