When 18-year-old Levi Johnston arrived at the Minneapolis airport with the Palin family on Wednesday afternoon, it wasn't exactly his introduction to the world (that happened via his MySpace page on Monday), but it did mark the debut of his new clean-cut image: the clean-shaven, rather dapper (and, let's face it, pretty hot) expectant father and fiancé.

It's a sitcom no one will buy, a throwback story to times long ago, high school pregnancies where no one knew what to do. McCain's judgment can't be factored as he keeps racing toward THIS issue with Bristol and waiting for us to be unkind so he can defend instead of running for President. What a blithering mess.

I don't want them to be scandalized, in fact the more they parade around, the better I like it. Just moving themselves ever farther away from the moderate Republicans whose votes they sorely need. I'm a Dem, but if I were a Republican I would feel the same way. I think McCain could have done a whole lot better if he was planning to have a woman VP nominee--Kay Bailey Hutchison, for one. That choice would have been much more likely to bring in any disillusioned Hillary backers. It's clear that he projected the reaction he got at Saddleback and chose Palin simply to suck up to the RR. He seems to think the RR is representative of the whole country; for the sake of the whole country, I hope that won't be enough to get him into the White House.

Also meant to say: he saw that manipulation of the Religious Right worked for Bush in 2000 and 2004 (was even a victim of it in 2000, with the "illegitimate black daughter" rumors), and has obviously now decided to toss the few scruples he still retains and use the same tactics. Unlike Bush, though, this could backfire on him when people realize we're not talking gay marriage here, we're talking religious nutz with their fingers too close to the armageddon button.

The made for TV movie writers couldn't have created a better storyline: Parents against birth control, Mom has 4 month old baby suspiciously calling it her own, daughter pregnant again to spite parents who took baby from her, reluctant teenage groom, don’t forget Dad has drunk driving charges history, and Mom is under investigation for abuse of power—will the storyline ever end??
