Mccain Palin

One of John McCain's main selling points as a government reformer is that the Arizona Senator sure hates him some earmarks. He hates them so much that he's been willing to call them out by name. As a Senator, McCain's published "pork lists" full up with government spending he's deemed wasteful. On the stump he has promised much more of the same, vowing to make Congress' major pork players "famous."

That brings us, again, to Alaska governor Sarah Palin. Long before McCain focused the national spotlight on Palin as his Veep pick, he was making her famous as a dedicated feeder at the pork barrel trough. As the Chicago Tribune details:

In 2001, McCain's list of spending that had been approved without the normal budget scrutiny included a $500,000 earmark for a public transportation project in Wasilla. The Arizona senator targeted $1 million in a 2002 spending bill for an emergency communications center in town -- one that local law enforcement has said is redundant and creates confusion.

McCain also criticized $450,000 set aside for an agricultural processing facility in Wasilla that was requested during Palin's tenure as mayor and cleared Congress soon after she left office in 2002. The funding was provided to help direct locally grown produce to schools, prisons and other government institutions, according to Taxpayers for Common Sense, a nonpartisan watchdog group.

McCain's surrogates contend that Palin had no other choice but to seek funding through Federal earmarks. McCain spokesman Taylor Griffin told the Trib that Palin said she was "disgusted" at the fact that "small towns like hers were dependent on earmarks." But the records actually show that "Wasilla had received few if any earmarks before Palin became mayor."

One of John McCain's main selling points as a government reformer is that the Arizona Senator sure hates him some earmarks. He hates them so much that he's been willing to call them out by name. As ...

Boy, these Repubs sure are kissing a**! Did you see the rousing cheers they gave Bush after his long-distance speech? They sure are 'flip floppers'. One minute they admit that Bush and Cheney haven't done the best for the country; the next minute they are cheering Bush like he's the Second Coming.

Perhaps Palin may sway the crowd tonight (who will be surprised by this? after all, these are "her kind of people") but that doesn't mean that her or McCain will sway the rest of the country.

Ever notice how Repubs LOVE to dis Obama and Biden, but when you say anything or ask anything about Palin or McCain, they are shocked, Shocked, I tell you, that you have the utter gall to even Question ANYTHING about their candidates.

Say one thing, but do another. This is the Repubs' credo and real life. How boring it must be to be a lock-step Repub. Can't EVER be yourself--you have to Do and Think what the bigwigs tell you. What a waste of lives...

No, I've been pretty consistent with supporting Barack. I know I don't like abortions, but I realize that sometimes they're necessary when the mother's life is in danger or the baby is a result of rape or incest.

Now this Ms. Palin wants to ban ALL abortion. I can't see that happening anytime soon. But if the Neo-Cons keep power then they WILL try to get Conservatives on the Supreme Court. And who knows what will happen then???

These are the issues. Let's stop attacking her personally and focus on the issues and McCain's judgement in making a decision like this with such little information. This falls back on him not on Sarah Palin.

Personally, with his temperment, judgement and AGE, I could never vote for their ticket.

McCain response: "When I was locked up for five and a half years, we didn't get earmarks."

What I don't get is his campaign doing this. They should know the more you shut off the press the more determined they are to keep digging. They become like a pack of rabid wolves if you shut them out and then attack them.

Exactly, if you shoot at the messenger they will shoot back. Shooting the messenger has never been a good tactic. It won't be for McCain either.

just when i start getting depressed it get's better. i think the debt she left the town with, recall/censorship issue, audio on shock jock show, ties to stevens and contradicitons between her and mccain's stances are all good. pro choice advertising will be helpful. however, she has made some headway in alaskan politics.

my caution to the dems, stay away from guns and creationism! it's the economy stupid! on pro-choice be clear that the republicans want NO exceptions for life, rape, or incest. many moderates don't understand this fact.

get specific on legislation and accomplishments of obama -- generalities are getting old.

I'm in complete agreement. Let's raise the level of discourse, because no one is going to do it for us.

It just comes down to lack of Judgment on McCain's part. He just doesn't have any!

Geez, can you imagine him picking Supreme Court Justices? Talk about scary.

We shouldn't stay away from anything. My dad always told me: "Daughter, make sure you are right and go ahead!".

We are right on the issues. We don't need to cower. We need to tell the American people what's at stake in every area and take this country back. We've been specific. Maybe you and others like you are just not listening.

Palin has actually opened my eyes. I never thought in my wildest dreams someone existed who was so wrong on so many issues.
When you see her family they all look as though they have won the lottery.

You really have to feel sorry for those small towns that have no other choice. They don't mention that she also requested earmarks while governor. But I guess states have no choice either. Sad times...

Someone should make a viral video of McCain and Palin's faces superimposed over Thelma & Louise as they go off a cliff.

how did this relationship between mccain and palin evolve again? if they actually knew each other extensively, would they even like each other? this is clearly not what mccain's campaign had in mind when they, not mccain, selected her. its sad when your vp choice once was happy obama was winning in alaska. YIKES! john mccain was right. they are soulmates. they flip-flop on issues in unison.
