After days of mounting questions about her qualifications, Gov. Sarah Palin rallied the Republican National Convention tonight by touting her small-town government experience and ridiculing concerns about whether she is up to the job of vice president.

"Before I became governor of the great state of Alaska, I was mayor of my hometown," Ms. Palin said. "And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves. I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a community organizer, except that you have actual responsibilities."

Help me understand something about "sexism". Its ok for the GOP to push motherhood as a VIRTUE for the ticket ( hockey mom, mother of five, mutlitasker etc) but its NOT ok for her to be questioned about that same motherhood and whether she can manage motherhood and veep job??
Isn't using "I'm a mom" as a vote catcher sexist in and of itself? It makes motherhood something unqiue to women, something that men CAN"t do? Women can't have it both ways
I can call myself a Mom and its a virtue but if someone else calls me a Mom its sexist and demeaning because it says nothing about my VEEP credentails? I don't get it....
And here's anbother thing i noticed from last night's convention coverage. its ok for for the GOP to produce their buttons with pics of PAlin and the caption "Hot Chick" ??? Wahat's THAT all about? And what about "Drill Baby Drill" ??Thats ok, but if the Dems produced buttons with pictures of Palin with a bloody carcass and the caption Kill Baby Kill - presumbably thats NOT acceptable?
The GOP is playing the sexism card and sadly its working and it just shows how they Just Don;t Get it. Did Hillary ever need to simper and flutter her eyelids and refer to lipstick and her "dude"? My second reaction to Palin's speech was that anybody who could succeed in aggravating me that much must be doing something right.

Obama and Biden may be everything that McCain and Palin are not: truthful; compassionate; fair; far-sighted; mature; respectful; articulate; and better informed on every important issue facing the country. None of this will matter unless they outplay their opponents over the next 60 days. They are like the Mets. They have the talent and resources to outplay the competition. The only question is, how will they perform now that it is September? With lack of focus, passivity and self-doubt? Or with self-confidence, balance, resiliency, wit and perspective? 2007 Mets or 2008 Mets? Virtually everything Palin said last night was unfair, but all injuries are unfair. We need to figure out how to win despite them, or it's going to be another long cold winter.
