New York Times:

After days of mounting questions about her qualifications, Gov. Sarah Palin rallied the Republican National Convention tonight by touting her small-town government experience and ridiculing concerns about whether she is up to the job of vice president.

"Before I became governor of the great state of Alaska, I was mayor of my hometown," Ms. Palin said. "And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves. I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a community organizer, except that you have actual responsibilities."

Don't you just love how Cindy a couple of months ago said there would be no negative attacks from their side? What happened?

In a way I'm glad she attacked the community organizers that are out there. We've been sitting in our living rooms wondering how we are going to deal with this housing crisis, and rising costs of health insurance. It's gotten really bad in my area, and to be honest, a lot of us were getting depressed.

This just energized us. Now, we get to be the focus on a national stage, and discuss our responsibilities in an effective way. If she wants to know what our responsibilities are, we'll show her. She'll never know what hit her.

You are misrepresenting or misunderstanding Palin's remarks. No Republican has said community organizers were not important, nor that they were a joke. Palin's response was to Barack Obama, who said that in fact he has executive-level experience because of his work as a community organizer.

This is absolutely ludicrous, and if someone on the right had said it, they would be ridiculed by the press (no surprise that Obama got a pass). Palin's point is that you cannot compare the level of responsibility that rests on a governor's shoulders to that of a community organizer, not that the latter did not have any importance in American life.

Since community organizers are joke to the "Republicans", I think it's time for some ads featuring local community organizers in these battleground states.

Wait a minute.

Last night, it only *appeared* that Palin went after Obama.

It was actually Matthew Scully who did. Because that's who wrote Palin's speech. He met her for the first time last week.

Sure, she delivered the speech well. But it was a game of smoke and mirrors. We still have no idea who Sarah Palin is until she get's out and starts getting some hard questions where she cannot rely on being propped up by others.

Contrast this with Obama, who writes the vast bulk of his own speeches.

I thought some of those sassy zingers might have been hers, but as soon as she started talking about pipelines in Central Asia, I thought come on. It was pretty clear that some aid hastily googled a few factoids in order to beef up her image on foreign policy.

Michelle Obama said her husband wrote his entire acceptance speech. Every word of it.

This is absolute hogwash. Obama does not write his speeches. He only approves them just as Palin approved hers. I would argue that Obama is actually more far removed from his speech-writing process than most. The proof of this is how much trouble he has continuing to speak whenever his teleprompter goes out. Palin made a good speech in terms of snipes at Obama but a terrible speech in terms of explaining why she is qualified for the job. She kept talking about reform but she didn't mention any bills that she passed...She kept mentioning reform but I believe the individuals she was referring to were Republicans. I believe Ted Stevens is the latest Republican senator to come under attack so the comment about Liberals causing issues in Washington is garbage. She believes in reform but she used lobbyist to bring in more than $27 million for her own projects. This is something McCain supposedly is against. I could keep going but there's no need. If they had the right candidate, this speech might have worked but everything she said has contradicted everything that she has gotten her hands into as a mayor and governor. There's no need for Democrats to be scared. Honestly, it's just annoying to watch.

Primitive is the word that springs to mind.

If McCain and this sorry excuse for a woman win the election, Canada and Mexico should consider building a containment wall; I bet the rest of the wolrd would gladly tip in.

What was the real gist of the GOP message last night? Divided We Stand?

Dems - Build up, not tear down.
Pugs - F**k You

Nice ...

YUK mouth was all bark with no bite!

I didn't hear her address any of the issues facing everyday Americans'. Home Foreclosers, Health Care, Jobs, Cost of FoodSocial Security, Medicare, Iraq, Afghanistan, Russia or the debt that her party ran up over the last eight years.

What I heard was more FEARMONGERING, LIES and HATE!

ENOUGH!

What a wonderful speech. I hate the "knocked it out of the football stadium" crap that pundits use, but I think she really did a fine job mobilizing the right. A little lean on the issues, but that should come tonight w/ McCain's speech. I thought it would be hard to beat BO's speech, but she matched it..

The GOP has reduced itself to the Party of Pot Shots.
With Palin on board, they have nothing left.

Can someone please tell me how Michelle Obama could get raked through the coals b/c of her 'proud' comment and Todd Palin gets a totally free pass for belonging to a group who's main objective was to have Alaska become it's own country? I mean the MSM said that Michelle hated America while Todd doesn't even consider himself an American! Double standard!

I can tell by your name that you're not for Obama, but I can agree with you to a point. Do you think that Sean Hannity going back to look at a 22 yr old's thesis is acceptable? I mean come on. Just because Todd hasn't given any speeches yet doesn't mean he's not in the spotlight. She keeps talking about him and so why can't people question his patriotism?

An organization that "has no use for America or her damned institutions!"
An organization that wants to take a lot from American taxpayers, but isn't interested in giving back to.

What got me was the one-two punch of Rudy G and Sara Who insulting the very idea of community organizing. And the crowd laughed with them. How selfish and shameful.

Well, she proved that she can read anyway.
GOP had no problem saying that Bush's speech writers had most of the speech that Palin read last night written before they even knew who the VP was going to be. That means the speech Palin read last night was written before McC knew what name would come out of his mouth, too.
Stay after the abuse of power investigation and all of that.
Family values? Yeah right. 18 yr old men in my state, under similar circumstances, find themselves on the state's predator list.
