Washington Post:

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican vice-presidential nominee who revealed Monday that her 17-year-old daughter is pregnant, earlier this year used her line-item veto to slash funding for a state program benefiting teen mothers in need of a place to live.

After the legislature passed a spending bill in April, Palin went through the measure reducing and eliminating funds for programs she opposed. Inking her initials on the legislation -- "SP" -- Palin reduced funding for Covenant House Alaska by more than 20 percent, cutting funds from $5 million to $3.9 million. Covenant House is a mix of programs and shelters for troubled youths, including Passage House, which is a transitional home for teenage mothers.

Anyone who reads beyond the misleading headline will see that Gov. Palin authorized an increase in funding of $3.9M.

I agree that we should focus on the facts. Here are some facts:

Thats funny, it reads as follows:

Palin reduced funding for Covenant House Alaska by more than 20 percent, cutting funds from $5 million to $3.9 million.

Yes, it does say that, but the statement is inaccurate. There was a proposal to fund an expansion of the program. Gov. Palin authorized an expenditure of $3.9M for that expansion.

What's so great about a well-to-do mother showing off the boy who impregnated her daughter by exhibiting him at a political convention? Certainly it sets an example for teenaged girls to think that getting pregnant will help them hold onto a reluctant boyfriend. And an example for teenaged boys who will view knocking up a girl as a way to tv stardom.

What's so great about making a big thing of a "planned" marriage between a pregnant 17 year old girl and an 18 year old boy who has stated in public that he doesn't want children. How many of what you call "tarts" will that kind of thing encourage to produce yet more illegitimate children, children that the "baby-loving" anti-choice people will drop from their consideration the nanosecond they exit the birth canal? Of course, the daughter of a VP nominee is not a "tart, "since you worried tax-payers don't have to worry about HER being on the dole.

How elastic are the morals of conservatives anyhow? I suspect we are receiving yet another lesson about the mentality that thinks it is perfectly fine to slime a young adopted child, if it helps to get votes from racists or a hilarious tactic to destroy the credibility of all military records and the honor involved in combat medals, just to gloss over the cowardice of a conservative presidential candidate.

So much for compassionate conservatism...one of the reasons young women abort is that they would not be able to take care of their child. At this point telling them to keep their legs together is useless--now society needs to focus on the child and the child's mother. You can't be pro life and against taking care of the woman who choses to keep the child...

Hey, we're just talking the "right to life" here. All that "liberty" and "pursuit of happiness" stuff is for GAWD, not the gubmint, to provide. Kind of like how it's important for the gubmint to protect and defend some parts of the Bill of Rights [cough] 2nd Amendment [cough] and not other parts [cough] 1st, 4th... oh, hell, all that stuff not contained in the 2nd Amendment [cough].

If you're a young, single mother living a life of desperation and poverty the most likely explanations are:
1. you're a GAWD-less heathen bound for the LAKE OF FIRE;
2. you're an unrepentant sinner bound for the LAKE OF FIRE;
3. GAWD is testing your faith, like HE tested Job's, and your faith will be rewarded, if not in this world, in the next.

GAWD moves in mysterious ways.

Want proof? Sarah Palin could be the next Vice President of the United States.

I notice you focus completely on the "tarts" as you call them. I think there's usually a man involved somewhere in the process as well.

Tarts? A voice from the Shakespearean age? There are a million derogatory terms for women who have sex, and almost none for their male counterparts.

Not only that, I have yet to see a conservative who actually tried to conserve anything except his own money and what he can snatch of ours. Stick the middle class with paying for the entire government, reward the rich for sending jobs overseas and force the same people who sacrifice their children (and force their grandchildren and their greatgrandchildren too ) to pay for their wars to oil and ego....that is their philosophy. Too bad so many dimwits fall for their lies about "socialism.". If people wised up, we would be on our way back to having a great country.

The great irony is that the ones who screech the loudest about Christ are the ones who are least like Him. Especially the so-called Christian leaders. Christianity has become a political movement to forward the extreme right wing agenda. All churches should be taxed. They are just political machines, always have been.

Isn't that what Rethuglicans do each and every day...dictate to the rest of us exactly how we should tailor our beliefs in God, in country and how God communicates His divine messages to the rest of the world? There's a word for that kind of intolerant ideology in my book...Fascism!!

Republicans always want to cut funding. That is there only basis to cut taxes. They KNOW they can't really cut taxes UNLESS they cut PROGRAMS! This is WHY NOBODY SHOULD VOTE REPUBLICAN. Unless you want less funding for social and economical programs aimed at helping the poor and educating the young!!!!! Down With Republicans! Up with THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY!!!

This is just more hipocrasy from the evangelical right. It is a sin to have a child out of wedlock. They refuse to educate young people about sex. They themselves were home schooled and never took biology so they don't understand the biological imperatives humans operate under. Teens have sex. Always have and always will. Only religion gets stupid about it. So inspite of their psuedo concern about the problem they punish the sinners by making their life as hard as possible by making them bear children they don't want. Then when they fail, abuse or kill their children they want to murder them legally through the State criminal system. They also say how many people their are out there who want children but are unable to have them so young girls should be a forced baby machines for someone else? And if there are so many people out there wanting children, why do we still have orphans? Every third word coming out of these sanctimonious neanderthal's mouth should be "hipocrit."

When you're funding the unmarried teen mother in your own family through your tax-payer funded governor's salary, you don't worry much about the teen mothers in anybody else's family.

Do you think Palin's state provided medical insurance is covering the family and the daughter's maternity visits, or are they doing it with laying of hands?
