Washington Post:

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican vice-presidential nominee who revealed Monday that her 17-year-old daughter is pregnant, earlier this year used her line-item veto to slash funding for a state program benefiting teen mothers in need of a place to live.

After the legislature passed a spending bill in April, Palin went through the measure reducing and eliminating funds for programs she opposed. Inking her initials on the legislation -- "SP" -- Palin reduced funding for Covenant House Alaska by more than 20 percent, cutting funds from $5 million to $3.9 million. Covenant House is a mix of programs and shelters for troubled youths, including Passage House, which is a transitional home for teenage mothers.

Why wont any female republic trolls just come out and say birth control is a womans choice and just stay out of my womb! Because the gop women prefer to live in the dark ages, subject their daughters to knitting needles in a dark alley. Why do gop women hate other women and allow 70 year old men to dictate what they can cannot do with their bodies?

gop women+log cabins= " I JUST SHOT MYSELF IN THE FOOT, BUT I THINK I'LL TRY IT AGAIN!

Believe me, Republican women and their daughers get abortions. So do their husbands' mistresses.

Palin cut funds for the program that would assist pregnant teens as well as cut funds for library construction and a community food bank.

I want to know when the press or somebody questions Palin on he patriotism with her open support of the Alaskan Independence Party (AIP) which openly wants to secede from the union. Why doesn't she wear the flag pin? Does she love her country? Is killing bears and other God's creatures reflective of family values? Does running a town of 5,600 people prepare her to be VP of the United States? If so, I know a lot of small town mayors who will certainly put their hat in the ring for the position next time around. Does requesting federal money for the Bridge to Nowhere and then rejecting it when it became politically correct make her fiscally responsible? Because Palin wants something along with a few other republicans does that mean that the entire country had to agree or show our allegiance to her bat crazy proposals or be fired as several Alaskans have already reported?
Just because the Rethuglicans say she is vetted and qualified does not make it so.

The only one that entered motherhood, special needs children and teen pregnancy was Sarah Palin herself. Not the media. Not Obama or any of his surrogates. Palins speech on Friday after her intro from McCain spoke about her as a mother, she herself opened that door.

When we ask about her experience in Foreign Ploicy..........that is not sexism
When we want to know facts about her ability to govern......That is not sexism
When we want to know how and when she crossed party lines to achieve something "better"..........THAT IS NOT SEXISM

I as a female am sick of McCains female surrogates spouting sexism to every question about Sarah Palin, I am also sick of McCain USING the POW cared to answer every question....uggggggggggg

Its the ECOMONY.................The one the republican rule for 8 yrs has ruined

"Ahhh, I think I support the president's policy," McCain said.
This is wonderful news. The man actually thinks.

Yeah, I don't see too many big sisters act so motherly-like with baby brothers. Usually they act like can't wait for someone to grab him.

No, that's not true. When you have a big family and you're the oldest, you take a lot of responsibility for your younger siblings. Especially now that her mother trying to be the VP, she'll practically raise that baby and her's too. I feel kinda of sad for her.

Yep, I hate to even get into this tabloid stuff but she sure looks like a mom holding her baby...

I held my brother's baby son last week in a similar fashion. He was sleeping on my chest as I leaned back into the couch I was sitting on. I even kissed the top of his little head and rubbed his back when he was a little fussy. I then fed him from a bottle when he wokre up.

I guess I am now my nephew's father.

You people are either a bunch of fool's, don't know how to lovingly hold a baby, or were not held when you were a baby.

Spider, you're very observant. I told my wife the exact same...that Bristol is holding that baby as if it's HER baby son and NOT her baby brother. The body language, at least to me, indicates a young mother holding her child, not a sister holding her baby brother. When I've seen teenage girls holding a baby sibling, it's normally in the "arm cradle" or lap mode. But Bristol is holding her "brother" lovingly close to her bosom as normally a mother would.

Another glaring point comes to mind. Why isn't the father (the Dad) ever photographed holding the baby to allow his teenage daughter to be photographed unfettered as most families do when taking a family photo? I haven't seen many family photos where a teenage daughter is holding her baby sibling unless it’s a solo photo. Normally the mother or father does the infant holding. Were the parents trying to hide Bristol's now revealed pregnancy at that time? Or, is this baby really the daughter's baby? Only time (and perhaps front page news from National Enquirer) will tell.

All in all, there's something about the Palin family that doesn't quite pass the "smell test" with me. I could be totally wrong and I just might be. But it appears they're hiding something but their body language is giving it away little by little.

I don't know. I think that her having to schlep the baby around (even in the national spotlight) could be a "punishment" from Mom and Dad for having gotten (them) in this situation. Of course, no one knows what goes on inside a family, but I'm not sure that they're as loving and supportive in private as they are in public.

You might actually want to read more than the Wa-Po partial coverage on this issue. There is an increase in funding, not a decrease.

SHE STILL CUT THE FUNDING...this does not say she increased the funds...this talks about money going to other funds....we are not that stupid....YOU PEOPLE ARE IMMMORALLY CORRUPT!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:50 AM on 09/03/2008

I believe you mean morally corrupt, but I digress . . .

The article does not address it going into other funds. It discusses the program as a whole. Read it again.

Four more years of the same hypocrisy

Four more years of our voices being ignored, our religion's being twisted and used against us.

Four more years of our fears being manipulated and preyed upon to justify wars

Four more years of our constitional rights being abused.

Somebody should get on YouTube and create one of those "leave her alone' videos that was created when Spears went chubby on MTV awards......this is better than fiction.

The hypocrisy of these zealot Christian Conservatives stating that family is off limits but now they'll parade the young girl's boyfriend out in front of the congregation of the faithful tonight.

And one more time..Was the Bush speech last night taped??

This website has turned into an embarrassment.

I have idea: How about no more photos of the daughter. Wouldn't that be nice?

Interesting photo:Sleeping baby and blanket covers up baby bulge info not yet released by campaign when photo was taken. Mommy cuts programs designed to help those like her own daughter(except for the fact they aren't fortunate enough to have Mom as Governor). Sounds like all republican hypocrisy to me. Pretty typical, really.
