Washington Post:

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican vice-presidential nominee who revealed Monday that her 17-year-old daughter is pregnant, earlier this year used her line-item veto to slash funding for a state program benefiting teen mothers in need of a place to live.

After the legislature passed a spending bill in April, Palin went through the measure reducing and eliminating funds for programs she opposed. Inking her initials on the legislation -- "SP" -- Palin reduced funding for Covenant House Alaska by more than 20 percent, cutting funds from $5 million to $3.9 million. Covenant House is a mix of programs and shelters for troubled youths, including Passage House, which is a transitional home for teenage mothers.

Birth controll is a major differance between the parties and needs to be discussed. This is another failed policy of the republicans.

The silly thing is people are ALWAYS trying to force the pregnancy and birth control issue on girls only. If this country taught boys how to be men and control themselves, much of this crap wouldn't happen. Everything is saturated (or sold) with sexual imagery to please men and feed their libidos, but mention toning it down and there's an uproar. Kids pick this crap up and act accordingly. It's not rocket science.

It all a matter of getting some real sex ed to our kids. These religious loon have caused more teen pregnancy with their abstinence only education than anything else. A male teenager should learn to use a rubber all the time a female teenager should visit a Gyno and get on the pill before she even active! If you run your house properly your kid learn that before they get sexually active! If you don't you end up on the Jerry Springer show!

One thing I will say for her she is a typical Republican. They always cut social programs that help real people first. Maybe Sarah's daughter won't have a need for the programs Mommie Dearest cut, but others in Alaska might. Isn't the Republican motto Country First?

Of course - if you allow funding for teen mothers it would encourage teens to get pregnant and to have sex. Thus, reducing funding is the appropriate policy. In fact, she probably wishes she had eliminated it.

What's wrong with you people?

Presumably Palin is wealthy enough to provide for her daughter and the unwed child.

But has absolutely no empathy with those who can't.

That is the issue. The wealthy/conservative/"Christians" all want to tell the rest of us how to live. But the rules don't apply to them.

Like Obama said. if you are poor, if you lack resources . . . you are on your own.

Whether or not she is wealthy enough is irrelevant. She is on the government payroll. The government will support all these babies. The government will take money from poor working moms who Sarah Payless will not support to give money to her daughter to live high on the hog, have 3 squares a day and a roof over her head and full medical care. This is not reform we can believe in.

I wonder if Palin's health insurance will cover Bristol's baby too???? When your child has a child and your child is still on your health insurance plan, how does that work?

That depends on what state you live in, Majorteddy. In Wyoming where I used to live, she would have gotten bare healthcare for herself but more for the baby. Those days of high on the hog are gone in most places I think. The sad part is Alaska is one of the richest states, if not the richest due to oil, and she was cutting programs??

The republicans once again forcing women to carry children to term, no matter the circumstance, but then deriding the social service programs many of these women will need to get by once the child is born. It is easy to say having the baby is the right thing to do when you have a man that is willing to marry you and a well-off family that supports you. Not everyone has that luxury...namely victims of rape or incest.

More of the same from the "Love the Fetus, Hate the Child" family values crowd.
They just want to control women and could care less about the kid once it's born.
Keep having kids people, we need recruits for McTempers wars.

Of course, the good people of Alaska will be paying for her daughter's decision, through other channels ... that is if she is not on the US dole by then.
