440,000 Sony Vaio Laptops Recalled

TOKYO (AP) - Sony Corp. is recalling 440,000 Vaio laptop computers worldwide because of a wiring flaw that could cause overheating.

Sony said Thursday the recall involves 19 models in the Vaio TZ series manufactured between May 2007 and July 2008.

The Tokyo-based consumer electronics company said improperly placed wires near the hinge connecting the body of the laptop and its display could wear quickly, causing a short circuit and overheating. A flaw in a circuit board inside the display could also overheat its rim.

Sony has received 209 reports of overheating worldwide, including seven cases in which people received minor burns.

Congrats to Sony for having the courage to face up to their failure in quality control
and rigorous testing of products. Honesy is the best POLICY, one sorely missing
in the recent fiasco over iphones which Apple can't muster the courage to recall.

Sony has been making nothing but crap since maybe the mid 1990s. I don't know what happened. They had some of the best products in the world and then all the quality suddenly disappeared and its one flawed design after the other.

ONCE sony became the leading player and their volume and profits went throguh the roof
their quality diminished in parallel. Nothing lasts forever....all things must pass...Sony is
not a great company anymore......rip
