"90210," the reincarnated version of the 1990s series "Beverly Hills: 90210," made an impressive debut in the ratings on Tuesday, setting a record as the highest rated premiere in the CW network's 2-year history.

Although the two-hour episode earned a modest 4.9 million viewers according to Nielsen's estimates -- far fewer than NBC's "America's Got Talent," which drew 10.6 million during same time period (8 to 10 p.m.) -- "90210″ finished very close behind among adults 18 to 49 while leading by a wide margin in the 18-to-34 demographic.

Because NBC's average was dragged down in the 10 p.m. hour when it initiated coverage of the Republican National Convention, the CW actually managed to win the night in the 18-to-49 set, matching the network's best ever night in that age group.
