Cubs ace Carlos Zambrano is only expected to miss one start and will not be lost for the season as feared, the Chicago Tribune reports.
An MRI Thursday morning revealed inflammation and rotator cuff tendinitis in his right shoulder.
Zambrano, who received an anti-inflammatory injection, joined the team on its flight to Cincinnati.
"Hopefully by the time we get to St. Louis [Tuesday] he will throw and, if that proceeds in a positive fashion, then he will be ready to start probably by the end of the series in Houston [next weekend]," general manager Jim Hendry said.
"So he'll just be missing, hopefully, this one start. Obviously, he'll have to get his strength back from not pitching and once the shot takes its proper course, he'll begin throwing in St. Louis."
