Chris Matthews and Pat Buchanan took MSNBC's infighting into Round 5 Thursday afternoon on "Hardball."

When Buchanan mentioned how America should be proud of Sarah Palin as a woman, Matthews asked, "When did you become Dr. Phil?"

"After weeks of crocodile tears over Hillary Clinton, now you've become the foster father of all women politicians," he continued.

Matthews then demanded that Buchanan name a single out-of-line question Palin had received, reminding him of the show's name. When Buchanan cited questions about Palin's family life, Matthews lit up over the Republican right's treatment of the Clinton family life, and a colorful argument ensued.

"What's your problem with strong women, buddy?" Buchanan asked. "The MS in MSNBC should not stand for misogyny."

I do like Chris Matthews. Despite some dumb comments he makes (don't we all?), I always have the sense that he is for real.

I like Matthews because he's the the average guy who managed to make it on TV. Granted he's really smart and knows a ton of stuff, but he's just like the guy at the bar that loves to hear himself talk about any topic. It's a bit refreshing compared to some of the highly scripted professionally delivered commentary others give. I like having the mix of him and then Olbermann.

See! I love that! That is a true kitchen table talk between elders in politics. It's necessary to see this because you know that this is occurring at every kitchen table all across America; even with people with the same political background. Which, I have the feeling, hasn't happening before I was born (and I am 28). I have seen contentious arguments about bills, food, and work... but to see two men who many have lumped together, titanically bump each on live television, is promising. The public discussion is happening. (I hope).

I do think it is interesting that at least there is some life at MSNBC and they are even with the personal attacks bringing out the questions and making it not as he other cable news shows are with each one show branding their own egos and only they can have an opinion in their time slot. The other thing I have noticed that with the back and forh that I believe should happen on these shows all the time the MSM calls it infighting and not people with opinions expressing theirs. If this was done alo like the premise of "Crossfire" should have really been there would be more emotional buyins by people. We need more talking heads using their emotions as well as brains to make the programs bring about true interest and the truth about issues.

Chris was sooo close to a grand slam there. If only he had pointed out that Palin was criticizing Hillary for playing victim before the coverage.

Listen, Pat Buchanan had to stop himself from calling Palin "Gal" which in itself if degrading.

He's just older, that's his kooky way of saying younger woman. She's certainly quite a bit young than him. I still call my girlfriends 'girls' and we're in our 60's. It's just style. I'm no Buchanan fan, believe me. In fact, he irritates me most of the time, but this was no biggie.

I'm 58, and I hate it with a passion to be called, gal, honey, sweetie, or any other term of endearment from perfect strangers. I notice it a lot in the service industry. I was a waitress, many moons ago, and it did not dawn on me to be so familiar with strangers. It was, "Yes, sir; or, Yes, Mam."

Call me old as the hills, but that's the way it used to be in the South.

Normally I absolutely hate it when Chris interrupts but this time I was actually proud of him for telling Buchanan like it is and has been forever and a day. Thank you Chris.

As much as I dislike Pat, he says some clever amusing things sporadically. The MS line got me.

Thanks Chris for calling these GOP pigeons out as the hypocrites they are. They went after Hillary for 2 decades and I don't remember hearing or reading one conservative voice calling the attacks unfair. Either Palin can handle the limelight or she cant. Period. Buchanan turning into a feminist is a completely joke.
