Chris Matthews vs. Pat Buchanan On Sarah Palin In MSNBC Round 5

Chris Matthews and Pat Buchanan took MSNBC's infighting into Round 5 Thursday afternoon on "Hardball."

When Buchanan mentioned how America should be proud of Sarah Palin as a woman, Matthews asked, "When did you become Dr. Phil?"

"After weeks of crocodile tears over Hillary Clinton, now you've become the foster father of all women politicians," he continued.

Matthews then demanded that Buchanan name a single out-of-line question Palin had received, reminding him of the show's name. When Buchanan cited questions about Palin's family life, Matthews lit up over the Republican right's treatment of the Clinton family life, and a colorful argument ensued.

"What's your problem with strong women, buddy?" Buchanan asked. "The MS in MSNBC should not stand for misogyny."

Why does PB think all women will like that "gal'? It can't be simply because she's a woman. Surely there should be more than the girl parts we share. We don't have to agree with her views on choice--just vote. We don't have to know what her views on women's rights--just vote. Palin doesn't strike me as a woman that plays well on the playground with other women. If she does then there are a few she has selected that don't intimidate her. I wish all the men (and some women) that are commenting as talking heads understood women look for more than her to be a woman. It seems they got it mixed up after Hillary.

How is the media coverage of Palin sexist? Because some people are asking why she's running for national office instead of caring for an infant with special needs and a unmarried, pregnant teenage daughter? Seems like the media repeatedly asked John Edwards why he was running for office and not staying home with a terminally ill wife.

The media coverage is not sexist. The media is simply doing the vetting that the McCain campaign did not do. When is the Republican Party going to get tired of the Reagan era trick of using a non-story "pregnant daughter" to distract from a glaringly obvious story - the cynical choice of Palin to pander to the Clinton vote. That ploy didn’t have legs because Obama stopped it cold. Now the exact same people who complained that Clinton hid behind the sexist card are telling the Clinton crowd if the media looks into Palin's background it's all about sexism.
