Cindy McCain's Monday Night Outfit Cost $300,000

One of the persistent memes in the Republican line of attack against Barack Obama is the notion that he is an elitist, whereas the G.O.P. represent real working Americans like Levi "F-in' Redneck" Johnston.

It caught our attention, then, when First Lady Laura Bush and would-be First Lady Cindy McCain took the stage Tuesday night wearing some rather fancy designer clothes. So we asked our fashion department to price out their outfits.

Either way. The McCains have never been poor or even close. I grew up in impoverished conditions. Unless you have been there, you can not identify with the needs of those who are in less than ideal circumstances. You can empathize but you can never really understand what it is like to have so many barriers especially if you lived a privileged life of a navy-brat, fly-boy.

I really see no point in harboring resentments and bitterness about the lot of those who may have a life that is vastly different than yours...maybe it would be better to realize that though one may not have the material advantages, it is clear that there are many wealthy people whose lives very miserable lives. Sure, it's great not to have to worry about money...who wouldn't want that? But happiness surely isn't registered in terms of one's bank account.

Are you kidding? Who's bitter or resentful? I am well off and I do not begrudge them their wealth or designer clothes. What I can't stand it the way they want to be perceived as "average" and "in touch". I'm sorry, but they don't have a clue. My mother worries about spending extra for a new pair of jeans. I know people in the middle of Ohio who don't know how to pay for groceries AND still put gas in the car. Get a clue! Cindy could bail out all of New Orleans if she wanted to.

For her it is about prestige. Not caring for people. I'll take Michelle and Barak any day! They have been there. And they have helped others who need a hand. I want leaders who get it.

Update. I was told the earrings are worth $280,000 (if they're "real"). The dress cost about $3,000. The rest goes for shoes and other accessories.
