Vanity Fair:

One of the persistent memes in the Republican line of attack against Barack Obama is the notion that he is an elitist, whereas the G.O.P. represent real working Americans like Levi "F-in' Redneck" Johnston.

It caught our attention, then, when First Lady Laura Bush and would-be First Lady Cindy McCain took the stage Tuesday night wearing some rather fancy designer clothes. So we asked our fashion department to price out their outfits.

And she tries to call Obama elitist?

Cindy McCain looked wonderful. Who cares how much the dress costs? At least she doesn't look like a 70's pant suit from Wal-Mart worn by Hillary. Now, that, is an ugly woman.! Please help! All honest people who know this start writing to msnbc.com@msnbc.com and write a short daily kos. Keith Olbermann sucks. Thank you for your support.

The theme of the article was elitism. Read the article; if you need any help with understanding it, let me know and I'll spell it out for you. Cindy McCain, all botoxed, looks like Cruella DeVille, so I guess ugliness is a matter of taste, of which you have NONE.

You can say what you want about Hillary, I hate the pantsuits too, but she is not an ugly woman.

How many outfits does she own?

On the day that she spoke, 7,000 American families lost their homes -- but neither she nor any other speaker this week has spoken to them or their experience with the Bush-McCain edition of the American Dream.

Why should they? They could care less about anyone or anything other than themselves. The Republican party is the cesspool of mean spirited, racist people who hide behind religion and "American Values" to cover it up.

SO? eat cake!
Your class envy is amazing. What was Theresa Heinz kerry worth? 100 times more than Cindy and oh, you seemed just comfortable with that fact. Now it's our turn to have a wealthy first lady and ...it's a national crisis? LOL. Americans don't hold it against others for being rich just for being fake - like Obama.

Obama is not fake -- he works to help people.

McCain is fake -- he works to *look* like he's helping people.

There's nothing wrong with wealth -- it's how you use it. It's your attitude towards other people. I haven't heard one bit of compassion or talk about helping people from Cindy McCain.

You don't know the meaning of the word "patriotic". You are a typical Republican, hiding your mean spirit behind American "values" (whatever that is) and religion. Typical hypocrite.

Good to be rich but check out this similarity. John Kerry had was a war veteran, he had a rich wife and he lost. John McPalin... I mean John McCain is a war verteran, has a rich wife, and will lose too.

Cindy was not wearing this dress for the photo op with Palin's baby.
Baby spit-up and designer dresses don't mix.

A sense of superiority and stupidity all in one person, a mirror of decadence and immorality within the GOP. Simply a party that has degenerated by loosing track of its true natural objectives. A fascist party with a sense of superiority. We Americans are little people for them, they are Ubber Alles.

Give me a break, I don't remember anyone commenting on the cost of any of Theresa Heinz Kerry's clothes.......GET OVER IT ! The designers probably sent the clothes to her anyway for the publicity.

I guess you have a short memory. She didn't flaunt it like the blonde does. And she didn't try to look 20 years younger, either. I guess she wouldn't want her philandering hubby to get wandering eyes.

Imus talked about Theresa's pashmina scarf! (Damn. That dress is twice the cost of my house). What a lucky girl.

So, now that the $100+ millionaire Clinton's are out of the race, money all of the sudden matters again? Besides, Vanity Fair just guessed. They said as much in the article:

"(All prices except Laura’s shoes and Cindy’s watch are estimates, and the jewelry prices are based on the assumption that the pieces are real.)"

Lot's of assuming going on there.

Clearly Cindy identifies with us less fortunate types. No wonder John knows NOTHING about the economy. It all belongs to Cindy.

It's stupid to count her earrings. If that were the case, every married woman's wedding/engagement ring would count - I'd be much better dressed if you could count my jewelry.
We're pushing it here people.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:05 PM on 09/04/2008

A couple of points:

Don't count her jewelry as part of the "outfit." I noticed Laura Bush's jewelry wasn't considered - very unfair. Does a $50 pair of jeans, $30 tee-shirt and $100,000 ring count as a $100,080.00 outfit? Of course not.

Cindy's choice of color was very poor - this would work better with a darker complexion.

According to Countess Esterhazy (in the September edition of W Magazine), following are several fashion faux pas:

1. Flip-flops. Since when did they move from the beach to the streets—and the workplace?
2. Overdone, overblown, overdyed, acid yellow hair and too much makeup.
3. Wearing your wealth on your wrists, fingers, ears and neck—all at the same time.
4. Superspiked heels and shiny leather boots—dominatrix fashion. Where’s the whip?
5. Women with big bottoms, or even those with small ones, wearing tighter and tighter blue jeans.
6. Supershort skirts and low-cut jeans revealing a woman’s lingerie—or none at all.
7. Bikinis on the overweight.

Cindy is certainly guilty of violating points two and three (and possibly four?). Sometimes a large fashion budget can lead to particularly bad choices.

"every married woman's wedding/engagement ring would count"

Are you kidding me???? most women don't wear more than a couple thousand dollars of jewelery.....and some of us don't need any......women in the real world that is. If you own jewelery thats worth more than my house you are not an every woman, and are probably voting for mccain.

And Bush and Mccain think think they can con the average voters. Talk about elite

Cindy, let me tell ya how real Americans live. (Facts here based on what I witnessed first hand)

Clothes bought at wal mart for kids $60.00 (On sale)
Clothes bought for mom, ie jeans, sweaters, shoes, socks, ect. $70.00 (Total)
Groceries bought to feed family of four, 2 weeks at discount store $ $200.00
Gas to fill car 1 tank $ 40-60
If they are lucky they have money to pay utility bills, pay off credit cards, car payments, if lucky, health insurance, fees for thier kids.
1 suit people, was enough to pay for 1month for a family of 4.
How out of touch are they with the American people? You decide.
