GOP Congressman Calls Obama "Uppity"

The Hill:

Georgia Republican Rep. Lynn Westmoreland used the racially-tinged term "uppity" to describe Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama Thursday.

Westmoreland was discussing vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin's speech with reporters outside the House chamber and was asked to compare her with Michelle Obama.

"Just from what little I've seen of her and Mr. Obama, Sen. Obama, they're a member of an elitist-class individual that thinks that they're uppity," Westmoreland said.

Asked to clarify that he used the word "uppity," Westmoreland said, "Uppity, yeah."

This won't get on the MSM because anything said about Obama and his family is fair game; but anything said about Palin's family is 'hitting below the belt' or 'sexist'. This election has become one big JOKE with McCain bringing out the biggest laugh of them all and expecting the American people to be stupid enought to take it serious.

If the word uppity is supposed to equal a racial slur the Republicans should be quite careful - As the cameras panned the audience during the Republican convention all I could see was a sea of white. Where were all the people of color? This part alone was a dramatic difference between the Republican and Democratic campaigns.

We should have ALLOWED the South to secede. I can't believe this comment is not getting more attention. This is the most obvious racial comment yet. The Republicans danced all around this before, but now its out in the open. No Black faces at the Republican Convention, now you know why.

There were 36 black delegates to the convention, or 1.5% of the total. I guess those delegates are the non-uppity type.

On the other hand, it's amazing how many black Republican pundits you see on TV. Very representative.

I live in a predominantly white neighborhood where one neighbor flies the confederate flag outside his house.
When I proudly placed my Obama '08 bumper sticker on my Chevy Blazer I was asked by his wife why I did that. I proceeded to explain all the many reasons why I support Obama and why I do NOT support McCain. She just smiled at me and said I had real guts. I told her guts had nothing to do with it but the future of our grandchildren did.
Since putting that bumper sticker on my car I have had several people ask me about it. People who have never voted before now say they will vote for Obama. One at a time people are beginning to change in my neighborhood.
Even the person who flew that flag has taken it down. He hasn't said he will vote for Obama but............ his wife did.
