RALEIGH, N.C. — Former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards says in a statement that he will not have any public events until after the November election.

A statement released Thursday by an agency that books speeches for Edwards says the former North Carolina senator doesn't want to create a distraction for Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama.

The decision extends an exile for Edwards that began about a month ago after he admitted to an extramarital affair with Rielle Hunter, a rookie filmmaker hired to produce videos of him in 2006.

The head of the booking agency, Don Walker, says Elizabeth Edwards plans to make speeches in Philadelphia and New Jersey later this month.

Senator John Edwards during endorsement of Obama:

And we have so much work to do in America, because all across America, there are walls ... There's a wall around Washington, D.C. The American people are, today, on the outside of that wall. And on the inside are the big corporations and the lobbyists who are working to protect a system that takes care of them. ... There is another wall that divides us. It's the moral shame of 37 million of our own people who wake up in poverty every single day This is not OK... And there's also a wall that's divided our image in the world. The America as the beacon of hope is behind that wall. And all the world sees now is a bully. They see Iraq, Guantanamo, secret prison and government that argues that water boarding is not torture. This is not OK. That wall has to come down for the sake of our ideals and our security. We can change this... Yes we can. If we stand together, we can change it. ... This is not going to be easy. It's going to be the fight of our lives. But we're ready, because we know that this election is about something bigger than the tired old hateful politics of the past. This election is about taking down these walls that divide us, so that we can see what's possible -- what's possible, that one America that we can build together.

It is a shame John Edwards has so damaged himself and the causes he worked so hard for. This is a time in American history where any energy by people wanting public office, must be put toward restoring freedom, not pursuing their own selfish desires.

CHICAGO, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- The booking agent for former U.S. Sen. John Edwards, D-N.C., says he's canceled all public commitments until after the November U.S. elections.

Edwards, who last month admitted to having an affair with a former campaign worker, said he didn't want his appearances to be a distraction from the Democratic presidential ticket, said a statement from the Harry Walker Agency of New York.

"Nothing is more important than electing Barack Obama and Joe Biden," Edwards said in the statement.

One of the canceled engagements was at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where Edwards was to be paid $65,000 to deliver a speech Oct. 14 on poverty, the Chicago Tribune reported Friday.

The Harry Walker Agency declined to say how many public commitments have been canceled by Edwards, who didn't attend last week's Democratic National Convention in Denver, the Tribune

So funny how they spin this. Event producers are cancelling their engagements with Edwards for obvious reasons...but Edwards is trying to make it look like He is the one cancelling.

Radar just reported on this:

Kind of sad, really.

Right now there are ambulances running all over the streets of Chicago, and there's no one there to chase them.

I think Edwards made the right decision. It's too soon for him to start public speaking again, and it will indeed cause a distraction for Barack Obama. The rightwingers already have had a field day with Edwards and he's not even in office anymore! Finally, Edwards has used sound judgment (if only he had had the sense to stay away from wacky Rielle!)

I think so too. He should take a good year off from speeches or interviews.
( Of course look what happened to Camilla and Prince Charles...)
